  1. At no time during 2021, do I feel was or will be "the time to go big," unless we are talking December 2021.
  2. The problem with replacing JD's bat is that extending JD might not really "replace" this production. He is due to decline- any minute, now. I'd love to extend him, but at what cost? I'm not sure ERod is the best pitching option for 2022 and beyond, either. I love the guy, but there are still questions (as with any FA signing). Extending Bogey and Devers has to be a priority. Ottavino is a FA, so trading him, next winter is impossible. Richards has a big option, so I'm not sure any team wants him at that cost. The rest of 2021 may change that. Perez has a decent option, but I think we keep him as a long man. We lose Richards and ERod, and add a FA, Sale & Whitlock to the rotation. (I think we keep Houck as the long man- spot starter.)
  3. 1Bmen are a dime a dozen, and all we need is a 2 month rental. Kike is too good of a defensive player to stick at 1B, long term. I'm okay with playing him there, so Duran can play, but it should not be the plan.
  4. Sox OPS Against Leaderboard .518 Barnes .562 Ottavino .599 Whitlock .679 Taylor .685 Eovaldi .692 Rios .705 Houck .719 DHern .740 Workman .743 Pivetta .757 Sawamura .771 ERod .794 Perez .853 Richards .942 Andriese
  5. SOX OPS Leaders .941 JD .920 Bogey .916 Devers .792 Arroyo (IL) .773 Renfroe .765 Kike .753 Verdugo .677 Plawecki .659 Dalbec .652 Vaz .647 Duran (13 PAs) .583 Marwin (IL) .575 Santana .530 Chavis (64 PAs) .501 Cordero (seems so long ago)
  6. We should have just asked for Verdugo & Maeda.
  7. Flip a 3 sided coin: Workman, Andriese, Rios.
  8. George Scott at 1B for his best years, but Cooper may be the right choice. They also traded Youk, but when he was just a shellof himself. Shoppach is the only catcher of substance traded away, as far as I know.
  9. Before his last two outings yes. 8 IP 7 H 5 BB 5 K 0 ER .614 OPS Against 7 IR- 1 IR Scored Last two? YUCKadocious! 1 IP 1 H 5 BB (including 2 with the bases loaded) 0 K 1 ER .917 OPS Against 4 IR- 4 IR Scored
  10. I'd like to see us trade for a salary dump pitcher, so the return package does not have to be much. Just keep the budget below the tax line. When Sale returns, Perez and Richards replace 2 from Workman, Rios and Andriese. I doubt we add a 1Bman, but if we do it will be a very low profile deal.
  11. His history shows he really has sucked, except for two seasons. .824 his rookie year in 430 PAs (only 7 HRs but 44 XBHs) .575 from 2015-2018 in 735 PAs (just 6 HRs) .857 in 2019 in 511 PAs (28 HRs and 57 XBHs) .552 from 2020-2021 in 172 PAs (5 HRs and 12 XBHs)
  12. I’m still not convinced, but a glimmer of hope has appeared. I’d still like to see Cordero again.
  13. Getting there seems harder than winning it.
  14. The Giants are the only team that can come close to the Sox in 21st Century rings. In some ways they are similar to us. Although they did lose one WS in 2002, they've won all ones they were in after 2003- same as us. They even kinda sucked in between like we did before and after 2013. They had a losing record, last year and the three before, something we have not done, this century. Their last ring was way back in 2014. I'd love to see a SF-BOS WS.
  15. Then, we don't get him. Maybe Verlander would take $50M/2.
  16. AL Records 57-37 CWS 57-38 BOS 57-38 HOU 55-39 TBR 53-42 OAK 50-44 SEA 48-43 TOR 48-44 NYY 47-44 CLE We are 1.5 up on the Rays for the ALE crown. We are 6.5 up on the second WC slot.
  17. I do, too. It may take him a while, but I'm thinking he will return to form. Moving Perez or Richards to the pen should improve on Workman/Andriese/Rios.
  18. We might see a Cordero for Chavis swap.
  19. I guess my idea of DFA'ing Santana turned out to be brilliant. Maybe I should call for Richards to be DFA'd next.
  20. He could probably still do better than Richards, tomorrow.
  21. I have to think about it, but off the top of my head, I'd go $80M/3. It's the 5+ year deals that kill teams. It would be a risk, but only 3 years, with maybe 1-2 being riskiest. I don't see any 31 year olds I'd rather give 6+ years to.
  22. Maybe the Sox, known for not wanting older pitchers, would rather sign an older pitcher to 3 years than a middle aged one for 6 or 7 years.
  23. Signing Scherzer, this winter might be a great idea. Trading for him, no.
  24. Big OPS jumps, tonight: .452> .647 Duran .522> .575 Santana .732> .765 Kike .922> .941 JD .648> .677 Plawecki .769> .773 Renfroe .752> .753 Verdugo .916> .916 Devers Bogey .933> .920 Kike may pass Renfroe and Arroyo for 4th place in the team OPS standings by tomorrow.
