  1. Me, too. Even if he ends up being sent down to work things out, I think he'll get another chance or two, later. He may end up never working out, or he becomes a platoon player, but to me, he still has a lot of promise.
  2. Not complaining, but I might have tried this... Hernandez CF Verdugo RF Martinez LF Bogey SS Devers 3B Vazquez DH Gonazlez 2B Plawecki C Dalbec 1B
  3. Mata is on the 40 man roster. My guess is, they are waiting to put him on the 60-day IL until they are ready to add someone. The immediate choice seems to be Santana, since his opt out is due any day, now. They may also be able to add Seabold to the 60 day IL retroactively, but I'm not sure he'll be out that long. Other players perhaps worthy of adding to the 40 man roster besides or after Santana: Munoz Duran Arauz Downs Herrmann Puello Gettys Ockimey Casas (later on) Gossett Weber Walden Hart Schreiber Simpson Ort, Poyner, Hall
  4. Done. I think this is my second time doing this, evah. Let's hope I bring some Texas mojo to the team.
  5. We need a win to turn the tide. Nate the stopper is the man on the mound.
  6. Highest K/9 since 2018 (150+ IP); 15.96 Hader 15.41 E Diaz 14.42 Barnes 13.41 Sale 13.04 Cole 12.69 Hand 12.49 Ottavino xFIP- 56 Hader & Diaz 58 Pressley 59 Sale 63 deGrom & Cole 66 Barnes
  7. His K rate of 15.4 is the same as 2019. Where he's really gone off his previous path is with the BB/9. It's 1.6, this year. It was 4.2 career, before 2021 and 4.5 from 2016-2020. It was 5.4 from 2019-2020! His H/9 is also way down: 3.2 from 7.9 career.
  8. If Houck is not starting, and why should he, I'd bring up Bazardo. Brewer could be a choice. I'd send Taylor down, despite his most recent 2-3 outings without incident. Valdez has not pitched in a while, so maybe he heads to the IL. DHern has struggled but has avoided the wrath of this board, so far.
  9. I thought opening day was the time for Chavis (no 14 pitchers), so yes, call him up as soon as he's ready.
  10. For some reason, the Sox like Brice, and since Taylor has options, I think Chavis for Taylor is more likely- assuming they go with 13 pitchers for a while. I can understand thinking a team who leads the league in runs scored does not place a high priority on replacing a pitcher with a bat, but our bottom 3-4 have been so bad, I think we could use an extra bat or glove on the bench. As soon as these guys have played enough live games to be ready, I'd go Santana for Cordero and Chavis for Taylor. I'd be fine with DFA'ing Brice for Bazardo or maybe Houck. Dalbec would get a little more time, but with Chavis and Santana on the big club, he won't be playing FT.
  11. Exactly. I wasn't agreeing with the ghost. I was just stating his continuous point. No way we DFA Cordero. We probably won't even DFA Brice, who has no options, just to keep another hope in the system.
  12. Only to those bitching about trading Beni and bitching about Cordero's slow start.
  13. Maybe they went hand in hand, but if we don't add Ottavino's $9M to the books, there was no urgency to save anything on Beni. I think Sox brass decided to cut ties with Beni, regardless. We'd probably have traded him somewhere. The one wild card in the Ottavino deal is German. Maybe Bloom really loves him, and that's what the deal was mainly about. Almost every move Bloom made added something to our extended future or was a bridge move designed to help us be respectable in 2021 without hurting our chances beyond 2021.
  14. I keep forgetting that.
  15. No doubt, but the reality is this is the same team we knew had too many holes to expect greatness. The one thing I said all along, and what made me have some hopes, is the fact that every other AL team has major holes, too, and that has been shown to be true. We'll probably have another good stretch of games that will raise hopes again, but we are also going to lose our fair share of games- sometimes to really bad teams. I still expect we win between 84-86 games, but a lot can happen to make it more or less.
  16. Beni's super slow start would have driven this board nutty. We'd still be hearing calls for Duran and wild signings. While the hopes for Cordero were certainly a major part of the trade, I think the PTBNL's were always the focal point. To me, the most questionable winter move was the Ottavino trade. It helped the Yanks get under the tax line, while taking up a lot of budget space on our ledger. We don't need to trade Beni, if we aren't paying Ottavino. Anyway, I still like the Beni trade, since I'm looking longer term.
  17. This team was projected to be about a .500 team. How is going 9 and 10 all that dismaying? I get that many of the losses were to bad teams, but to me, the 9 game winning streak was more dismaying. We will lose some games to good and bad teams. We will have a nice winning stretch, again- maybe several. The team will likely end up with 80-86 wins. After how bad we were, last year, and having a restricted winter spending budget, I'm actually thrilled we got to where we are, right now. The team has over achieved, but from the sound of several posters, we are bums. Management sucks from top to bottom. Our saviors were being held back at the alt site, and now should be called up after 2 live games. Yes, we have a weak defense. Is that a newsflash? Yes, our pen has sprung some leaks, but for the love of God, they have carried this team beyond anyone's expectations, and now after about a week of struggles, the sky is falling. Our rotation has been solid, especially for 5 innings. With 9 pen arms, of which 7 have done well, you'd think that would be enough for a team leading the league in runs scored. We won some tough games a few weeks back: now, we are losing some. It sucks. No doubt, but the weaknesses we all saw and wrote about, this past winter, are still there, but don't expect us to spend big, both in cash or in prospects, to plus the holes that have been known to be there for at least a couple years. Our defense will lose us more games. Our pen will be far from perfect. A starter or two will struggle or get hurt. Our offense, unbalanced as it is, will keep scoring more than most teams, but with such a weak bottom 3-4 slots, it's hard to expect consistency. When Cora tries to lengthen the line-up by slotting someone else in the top 4 slots, he's crucified. Cora and Bloom are just what this team needed as they bridge to future greatness. It will take time, but patience is no longer a virtue, these days.
  18. His point is to DFA struggling players who have options. Nobody would make a big deal out of someone saying Cordero and Dalbec should be demoted to AAA.
  19. I'm not sure why people are freaking out about Sale's time frame of return. The last thing we want to do is rush him. He had a couple setbacks and still looks to be on pace for his return within the original projected time period. Then, some act like Sox brass has been lying about his timetable. They've never said anything firm about when he returns. Nobody does.
  20. Cordero will not be DFA'd. He has options left and can try to earn another look at the AAA level. Chavis does deserve another look- perhaps his final one. Houck is a starter, and none of our starters have earned a demotion. I'd probably bring up Santana for Cordero and Chavis for Taylor or Brice, but I can see sending Dalbec down. If I bring up a pitcher, I'd probably go with Bazardo.
  21. Our top 6 slots all got on base 2 times. Usually, it's just the top 4 or 5. We can't keep getting 1 for 14 from our bottom 3. I'm all for sticking with players for long enough sample sizes to make some sort of meaningful determination, but we need some jolt from a player not named JD, Bogey, Devers or Verdugo. Kike is fine as a role player, and maybe Marwin & Arroyo can give us just enough, but we can't keep this up for much longer. The minor are up and running. We should start giving someone else a shot. My guess is Santana gets the first look. Cordero gets demoted. Then, I'd dump the 14th pitcher (Brice or Taylor) and call up someone else. Maybe Chavis or add Munoz to the 40. Maybe roll the dice with Duran or even Ockimey. I'm usually the patient one. Times up.
  22. Can you say, "jinx?"
