  1. It is impossible to quantify, but you can figure we'll get a few players every year as the "offset." Also, don't forget the mighty Connor Wong!
  2. No, but $16M is a lot of money. I doubt it affects how Henry plans to open his wallet 2 years later, but it doesn't hurt. Losing Pedey's contract will help. Here's another look at next winter's finances: Contracts expiring (or options/opt outs where noted) in Lux Tax Dollars: $22.0M JD (opt out) $13.8M Pedey $10.0M Richards (team option) $8.9M Ottavino $8.3M Rodriguez $5.0M Perez (team option) $4.5M Barnes $4.5M Vazquez (team option w $500K buy out) $3.0M Gonzalez $2.8M Beni $1.9M Andriese (team option with $250K buy out) Major/minor Santana After 2022 (all option players kept listed above, including JD, Richards, Perez and Vazquez): $20M Bogaerts (opt out) $17M Eovaldi $16M Price $7.0M Kike Hernandez 4th arb Plawecki $1.2M Sawamura (team option with $600K buy out)
  3. Big series coming up. The schedule gets extremely difficult for two months starting with the Astros next week. I’ll be at the Tuesday game. I usually go twice with two sets of friends, but this time I’m combining groups as the wives are staying home. Let’s start a streak!
  4. Yes, and we also did not have to pay $16M to Price.
  5. Good points all around. Hopefully, Bloom & Co. we have turned the corner on finding and developing good pitchers. That doesn’t mean we should take one at number 4, but there is less fear than before. It’s always a gamble, and I trust the Sox will take the best player available at #4. Who we take in the later rounds may be just as important, so it’s nice to be picking 4th every round.
  6. This has been said numerous times, but I think it needs to be said again, there is no way we’ll ever know if he would have re-signed with us. The trade was officially for one year of Betts, and it turned out to be a 60 game season lost.
  7. I wouldn’t say Betts is just “built for speed.” If he wasn’t fast we might be comping him with Aaron or Mays
  8. Yes, for 2 weeks, so Cordero May just have 2 weeks before they deem Duran “ready.”
  9. I get that, but they do the same thing almost every year, so I can’t see it being lucky.
  10. The Jays would win the AL Central and maybe another division or two. I think they finish over 500, but if the end up near 500 it’s because they are in the ALE.
  11. True, and they do all the thing that don’t show up in flashy stats very well.
  12. It’s not luck. They’ve done this for years. It’s hard to call a 12 year run momentum, either. I’m not saying I have a better reason.
  13. 6 out of their top 11 PA players are under .675. 3 of their 6 SPers with 5 or more starts have ERAs over 4.00. Somehow, it never matters.
  14. We gained on Toronto and stayed even with NY,
  15. Exactly, the mistakes made by past organizational leaders should not be held against Bloom & Co.
  16. I’m not sure he’ll ask to be traded, and Cora did give him a pretty long leash in 2018, but the writing is on the wall.
  17. There is no need for 4 second basemen. Without Cordero we’d have 5 OFers- Verdugo, Renfroe, Kike, Marwin & Santana plus Jd for NL parks or a pinch. I don’t see Chavis vs Cordero as being a bench depth OF/IF issue. It’s about thinking Cordero will do better or has a better longer term outlook than Chavis. It’s no big deal as Cordero will likely be next - Duran or back to 14 pitchers.
  18. With Santana up and Kike back, they need Cordero less.
  19. I think Chavis gets traded for a RP'er.
  20. All in all, there really isn't a big difference between giving Cordero or Chavis a longer look in the bigs, and it might just be two more weeks, anyway.
  21. He might be better than Okay offense, and his defense kinda surprised me- not that it was good, but I expected horrific D. He hit 24 HRs in his first 600 PAs in MLB. He K'd a lot, yes, but I do think he deserves a longer look. He'll likely get it elsewhere, unless someone gets hurt.
  22. They must really think Cordero can turn it around at the ML level.
  23. Has anyone claimed Brice? BTW, Arroyo returns Tuesday, according to one report. Chavis or Cordero demoted?
  24. Yes, I know nobody said we were choking, but right now the Yanks and Rays are red hot. It may not last much longer. The start of June has the Yanks playing TBR & BOS, the Sox playing at HOU and then NYY.
