  1. It's about more than just Verdugo & Co. The savings on the budget will bring us player after player for years and years plus Verdugo and anything we get from Downs and Wong.
  2. One team throws him only fastballs and this one, only sliders.
  3. Was hoping for a crooked number, there.
  4. ERA minus (ERA-) is adjusted and better than ERA. (I should have used OPS Against.)
  5. It makes more sense to think of it this way, but that's not how it's taken. True, you did not say "better than," so you were not wrong. Wording it the way you did here make it more clear.
  6. Does he have a steel plate in his head?
  7. Here are the best team in the AL by record - the 2 numbers to the right are their AL rankings in OPS and ERA-: CWS 3-1 TBR 8-2 OAK 7-5 BOS 4-4 HOU 1-8 CLE 12-6 NYY 9-3 SEA 15-9 LAA 6-11 TOR 2-10 KCR 11-7 DET 13-13 MN 5-14 TEX 14-12 BAL 10-15 NL SFG 3-4 LAD 2-3 NYM 10-1 CHC 5-11 MIL 14-6 SDP 9-5 CIN 1-12 STL 12-9 PHI 8-7 ATL 4-10 WAS 6-8 MIA 13-2 COL 7-14 PIT 15-13 It sure looks like you have a better chance at being a winner, if your pitching is top 5 or 6, but there seem to be a few exceptions to the rule, and there are teams winning more than it appears they should be.
  8. The guy was up and down his whole career. Why do we need a special excuse, this time? He may even get hot, like many years past and end up over .700 or even near .800 again. This is who he is. I miss him, but his time, here, was up.
  9. ARROYO Leading Off!!! 1. Arroyo 2. Verdugo 3. JD 4. Bogey 5. Devers 6. Renfroe 7. Vaz 8. Marwin 1B 9. Santana CF RHP Kyle Zimmer named the KC starter.
  10. RHP Kyle Zimmer named the KC starter.
  11. Maybe he meant, if Beni is your second best hitter, you can't be all that good.
  12. True. I guess I was second biggest. I even went to a 14 year deal.
  13. The difference is 0.100 or 10%. That's not the same as saying .320 is 10% "better than" .220.
  14. I was a huge JBJ fan, but felt he wasn't worth half that contract.
  15. I was the biggest sign Betts to what it takes supporter, and even I know this was a great trade.
  16. People always assume you mean 6% of what your number is now. 6% of that number more.
  17. We need some rebounds from 4 of our starters. Starting tonight would be great.
  18. Let's say you're a MLB pitcher back in the 70's and one day, you use a different soap to wash your hands, and that day, you have a much better grip on the ball. Would it be cheating, if you kept on using that soap? Of course not, but you can see where I'm going with this. Yes, soap has never been banned, as long as you're not slopping it on the ball, and there should be limits on just what can and cannot be used, but to me, this is just another knee-jerk reaction made to counter an earlier blundering knee-jerk reaction made by MLB.
  19. True. At some point age should be a factor (on both ends).
  20. 21. ...and .220 is 21% less than .280. There are lots of ways of looking at numbers. If a .220 hitter gets 6 more hits out of each 100 ABs (or 6%), he'll be hitting .280.
  22. Shows how the "Recency Theory" or "What you have done for me lately, is what you will do tomorrow and the day after" is not a very effective predictor of future productivity.
  23. When you look back at our winning and non winning seasons and how much or little the top 5 starters started games, it is sometimes hard to determine who the top 5 were. Do you go by who the top 5 were believed to be at the start of the year? Also, sometimes a trade is made for a #2, 3, 4 or 5 starter, and should that mess up the study or further prove that having 5 healthy starters all year greatly enhances your chances at winning a ring? How important is it to just make the playoffs and having all 5 starters healthy for the playoffs? Here's a look at our rotations and GS'd since 2002: 2002 32 Lowe 30 Pedro 29 Burkett 23 Castillo 15 Wake 12 Fossum, 9 Oliver, 8 B Arroyo 4 by 3 Others 2003 33 Lowe 33 Wake 30 Burkett 29 Pedro 14 Fossum, 10 Suppan 13 by 4 others 2004 33 Pedro 33 Lowe 32 Schilling 30 Wake 28 Arroyo 5 by 3 others 2005 33 Wake 32 Arroyo 32 Clement 30 Wells 16 W Miller, 11 Schilling 8 by 4 starters 2006 33 Beckett 31 Schilling 23 Wake 15 Lester 12 Lester 10 Snyder 38 by 8 starters 2007 32 Dice-K 31 Wake 30 Beckett 24 Schilling 23 Tavarez 11 Lester 11 by 3 others 2008 33 Lester 30 Wake 29 Dice K 27 Beckett 15 Buch 30 by 6 starters 2009 32 Beckett 32 Lester 24Penny 21 Wake 16 Buch 12 Dice K 25 by 5 starters 2010 33 Lackey 32 Lester 28 Buch 25 Dice K 21 Beckett 19 Wake 4 by 2 others 2011 31 Lester 30 Beckett 28 Lackey 23 Wake 14 Buch 12 A Miller 24 by 4 others 2012 33 Lester 29 Buch 29 Doubront 21 Beckett 18 A Cook 11 Dice K 11 by 2 others 2013 33Lester 29 Lackey 29 Dempster 27 Doubront 16 Buch 10 Peavy 18 by 5 other 2014 28 Buch 21 Lester 21 Lackey 20 Peavy 18 de la Rosa 15 Workman 11 Webster 10 Kelly 10 Doubront 8 by 2 others 2015 32 W Miley 28 Porcello 25 Kelly 21 ERod 18 Buch 11Owens 9 Wright 9 Masterson 9 by 5 others 2016 35 Price 33Porcello 24 Wright 21 Buch 20 ERod 13 Pomeranz 16 by 4 others 2017 33 Porcello 32 Sale 32Pomeranz 24 ERod 15 Fister 11 Price 15 by 4 others 2018 33 Porcello 30 Price 27 Sale 23 ERod 13 Johnson 11 Eovaldi 11 Pomeranz 13 by 3 others 2019 34 ERod 32 Porcello 25 Sale 22 Price 12 Eovaldi 37 by 10 others 2020 (60 game season would avg 12 GS'd x 5) 12 Perez 9 Eovaldi 7 Godley 6 Mazza 5 Weber 4 Brewer 3 Houck 3 Hart 11 by 8 others 2021 (after 69 games- avg 14 GS x 5) 0 Sale 14 Eovaldi 14 Richards 13 ERod 13 Pivetta 13 Perez 2 Houck
