  1. Some team that does not want to lock up a top SS for 6+ years and sees their window winding down might prefer trading for Boegy over signing a SS. Don't ask me who that is. I don't know. Here's a blockbuster BTV accepted: Bogey, Duran, Vaz, Groome + $8M for Montas, Soderstrom (C prospect), Piscotty & Andrus (as salary balance) (We could even add Renfroe.)
  2. We thought we could win in 2019. I see Devers as significantly more essential than Bogey.
  3. When you look at who we want back for Duran, it's actually a huge compliment to his value. Nobody wants to hand him away for nothing. With JD able to play OF, and Schwarber in many posters eyes, Duran would hardly play. Now, Kike is a FA after 2022, so if that is on people's minds, then there is value keeping Duran around, but for all the grief we hards about keeping him in the minors, this year, how does it make sense to not play him in 2022 or keep him in AAA all year?
  4. They do need to define it, first, and making it an easy definition helps. If we go to robo balls and strikes, maybe this can be something that is detectable and called electronically, too. (Bat crosses the halfway point of plate- it's strike- no matter what angle or reason. If it looks like someone is swinging as they move to avoid being hit, so be it. If the bat is swung but never goes directly over the plate- no strike. It may be weird, but just get something consistent and stick to it. Make it simple and easy to call.
  5. I realize being a SS helps your value, but unless a GM thinks you are a significant plus value on defense, I'm not sure moving to 2B or 3B would drop his value from where GMs place it, now. The talk of signing Semien interests me, but almost everyone says Semien could play 2B, until Bogey moves on. I'd play Semien at SS and move Bogey to 2B for 2022 or just trade Bogey.
  6. Trading Devers would be a mistake, but if they won't pay him, I guess it's better than nothing.
  7. Admittedly, I've gone all yo-yo on Devers to 1B. As soon as I give up on him, he has a nice long stretch of being plus on defense. He's still young enough to learn and improve. Also, the way he hits, he's still worth that money at 1B.
  8. I'd define it as the bat crossing the halfway point of the plate. I know this creates some "what ifs," but there needs to be one clearly defined line that is either crossed or isn't. Until there is, it is only madness.
  9. We could do better. It's a pick after the first round, plus added slot money, which is not bad, but we can and should do better. If we wait to the deadline, it will be hard to trade him, if we are in the race.
  10. If there is no evidence, than there can be no punishment. The Astro players admitted it.
  11. Agreed. The uncertainty of injury might make Devers jump at a big guaranteed number that might be low on the open market. I think getting him to sign might be easier than getting henry to agree to over 8 years. To me, Devers is a pure hitter. People talk about his need to change his approach and be more selective, but I would not mess with him, and I have always belived you need a mix of approaches in a great line-up, so you can attack different types of pitchers. Look what this kid just did, one-handed! If any Sox player deserves to be locked up for 9-12 years, it is this 25 year old. It's just my opinion, and I'm not sure Bloom, let alone Henry agree.
  12. Perhaps a third team might be involved, but I have thought of the Astros, Phillies and Yanks. The Giants look possible. A lot might depend on the money aspect. If we take back some unwanted salary (or pay part of his salary), that could greatly increase the pool of teams interested. I think it comes down to some GM really wanting him and thinking they can and will extend him. I'm not sure that man exists. I just hope we don't lose him for a draft pick ONLY.
  13. Exactly. That's important to us old men.
  14. That's hard to know. I kind of doubt it, but Devers looks special and is so damn young. He just turned 25, two days ago. A 10 year deal would bring him to age 34! (JD's age) 12 years would bring him to 36. Henry did okay the Price deal, and he was much older than Devers. I'd guess no, but I think it's a close call on a 9-10 year offer by Henry. (hard to know these things.)
  15. Raising his trade value.
  16. Jurgenson. Look up some old films.
  17. I remember showing my flip phone to my students, and they laughed at me. They were asking how it worked, as they put their fingers on the tiny screen to try and make the image get bigger.
  18. I have sold some for a handsome profit, but I've kept my faves. I have the Beatles White Album in white vinyl.
  19. If it includes his 2 arb years, maybe $270M/10 or $300M/12 with an opt out after 8-9 years.
  20. Ones known to be cheating by evidence.
  21. Someone will always seek better and better.
  22. I would think about a very long deal (10-12 years) for Raffy. At his age, it would be worth adding extra years to give him extra security, but also lowering the AVV. Give him an opt out after 8 year.
  23. Yes, and I am someone who is very slow to adapt to technology. I was still buying albums when CDs were popular. I still had a flip phone until just a few years ago and hardly ever use my cell phone, now.
  24. The ones caught. Fines. A few game suspensions. More for what the Astros did. Look at the Astros numbers that year. It's sick! OPS in 2017 (2016/2018) .957 Altuve (.928/.837) .941 Correa (.811/.728) .907 Marwin (.694/.733 .889 Springer (.815/.780) .847 Reddick (.749/.718) .827 Bregman (.791/.926) .817 Gurriel (.677/.751) .815 Marisnick (.588/.674) All but one player had a better season before or after. Look at the massive disparities between some of these numbers. Not one was punished. Many got fat contracts afterwards- or fatter that they deserved.
  25. True, and to me, I would not outbid anyone for them, either.
