  1. TBR scored 57 runs at Fenway. We scored 34 at Tampa, if that means much. Getting to count runs in games at Fenway as away games helps a little.
  2. I was thinking we could go with 11 pitchers but expected 12. I don't see the need for 13. I'd have gone with 3 catchers. That being said, the rosters looks fine, too me.
  3. You weren't surprised? You projected 100 wins for the Yanks and about 70 for the Sox.
  4. Some A_Rod quotes from the game: "I love the Anthony Rizzo pickup because he's a baseball player." Joey Gallo is a “landing strip” Said the Yankees and Red Sox should not to bother being smart just “just keep to your superpowers, which is tremendous resources.” Said he loves Alex Cora "More than Tic-Tacs." He also predicted Cole would win the Cy Young, next year because "the sophomore year is easier."
  5. I get that. I'm just pointing out how someone might have thought Sale was left off by just reading that one post.
  6. But, he was left out of the list of added players.
  7. We probably could get by with 11 pitchers very easily, with all these days off, but I doubt we do that. I like having 3 catchers, so we can PH for them twice, if needed.
  8. Personally, I think we go large NOT long- like Scherzer or someone, next year. We lose Price's $15M, next year plus JD and Boegy's deals. That's plenty of budget space to afford Devers and a big FA signing, but more holes that need to be filled, too. It won't be easy, but if Bloom keeps finding Renfroes and Whitlocks, we can afford some big contracts every now and then.
  9. Especially vs us.
  10. Me, too, despite me feeling I'd have left him in... and probably been wrong.
  11. We don't know what the lux tax is going to look like, but if nothing changes, I have us with about $40M to spend and stay under level 1. That's close to what we spent, last winter, but this year, we have only 3-5 slots to fill not 7-9. I'm not saying we go long and large, this winter, but I do think we do either this winter or next. I think we can afford Devers and one big contract. If we go up to level 2, we'll have plenty to spend on Devers and a $30M guys, arbs and 2-3 mid range contracts, too.
  12. I’m not so sure, this winter. I do think he continues to look for shorter term deals like Renfroe and Kike, but I think he goes large and long on one guy, this winter or next. Last winter, we had 7-9 holes in our 40 man roster with many of those on the 26. This year, it is maybe 5-6 with 3-4 on the 26 man roster. Even with the same amount of winter spending, the quality should go up as the quantity goes down. I don’t see a major Rule 5 roster crunch, this winter, but I also don’t see much more room than 4-5 additions to the 40.
  13. As much as people want to lament the loss of SP’ers that went 8 or 9 innings often and downplay the increased role of analytics, did everyone notice the first two batters up for the 3rd time got on base?
  14. We didn’t know the pen would do great until they did it. I’m happy with Cora’s decisions, even the ones I disagree with.
  15. I want ERod and feel confident he will do well and even more confident he’ll do better than anyone else. What more can I say? I could repeat my “he’s a winner” refrain and cite his 70+ winning % over the last 4 years.
  16. Did you miss the second best part or just trolling again?
  17. Eovaldi is unavailable and Sale would be on short rest. Houck is the only other option, but he has been used in the pen and is needed there and unlike ERod, accustomed to pen work. Also, as much as ERod has struggled, this year, he has pitched well his last 16 starts, which is no tiny sample size. He’s been burned by poor fielding more than just about any Sox pitcher. BAbip Against .363 ERod .337 Pérez .333 Richards .327 Eovaldi .319 Houck ERod has a 3.95 Road ERA, including 2.25 at TB, this year.
  18. No, I agree with Cora, even if my opinion was differing, because I don’t know and can never know if my opinion was right. Lol
  19. You have to love these one game play-ins after a win!
  20. One side affect of yanking Eovaldi early is that maybe he can go longer in his next start or be used in relief, too. I’m sure even Cora would admit he has made several mistakes, this year, but in my opinion he has made less than maybe every other MLB manager. I’ve scratched my head a few times and vocalized some differences, but I’ve always felt he’s been our best or second best manager, since I’ve paid any attention (post Dick Williams.)
  21. Exactly! And with the best starter we have ready for tomorrow.
  22. Yes, I said I’d have left him in, and there is no way of knowing what the right move was. The near homer off Brasier does not prove anything. I disagreed with the call, but not Cora. He knows more than both of us combined and then some... IMO, of course.
  23. I didn’t say my expectations, and I based mine on more than just 2020. I looked at 2019, too, and all the moves Bloom made from the 2020 deadline to opening day and then this deadline. I’ m happy we improved greatly, because in baseball, nothing can be taken for granted. I don’t think it is “loser talk” to be happy with a big step in the right direction, even if we fall short this series against a very good team- a team with the second best record from 20 to 21. Of course, I want us to keep winning and will be upset, if we lose, but this was a good season, no matter what. That’s not defeatist thinking, and I’m sure our players aren’t thinking like that, and if they were I’d be surprised and pissed, but it’s true. If anyone thinks the season is a failure, if we lose to theRays, I’ll think your wrong, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, even when wrong. Lol
