  1. Then, we can say the pen has turned things around. Oh, the silliness of using blown saves to judge relief pitching.
  2. and about .200 from Betts!
  3. Maybe it's time to bring Walter & Bello up to AAA. Maybe, bring Seabold & Kelly up to the bigs. (DFA Danish or Davis to add Kelly to the 40.)
  4. Like I said, his career numbers show he's about the same the 2nd time and 3rd time through. When you look at the career numbers of all our starters, Wacha and Hill blow the others away, and the 2021 numbers support the same conclusion. If anyone should go through 3 times, it's Wacha and Hill and sometimes Big Nate. 2021/Career OPS Against 2021: 1st time> 2nd time> 3rd time through a line-up Career: 1st time> 2nd time> 3rd time through a line-up Eovaldi .648>.670>.780 .669>.706>.867 Wacha .777>.747>.607 .682>.742>.750 Hill .649>.838>.586 .637>.725>.674 Pivetta .700>.641> 1.011 .762>.742>.901 Houck .516>.619>1.489 .497>.626>1.017
  5. Woo lost the first game 2-1, but Winckowski looked good, again: 5 IP 2H 0 BB 8K. They won the second game 5-4 with Pannone going 5 IP with 4H 2ER 0BB 4K. Ort let up a run buy got the save. Greenville won 7-4 with Rafaela hitting his 7th and Northcut his 10th (3 hits).
  6. He finally walked his first batter of the season, 10Ks and 1 BB in 6 IP (3H and 0 ER) In the second game, Bello went 7 without allowing a hit. (3BB 5K 1 unearned run)
  7. How does having just as good an OPS Against the 3rd time through as the second, career, show he was being left in too long? 2021 .777 1st time .748 2nd time .607 3rd time .
  8. It's hard to guess right on RP'ers with sketchy resumes. Last year, Bloom swung and missed on the starters: Richards and Perez. Kike and Renfroe were good, but Marwin and Sawamura not so good.
  9. I'm pretty sure there was some back and forth about roster construction over the winter. Maybe Cora was okay with what he was given. Maybe they discussed making summer moves, if needed. Maybe Cora was unhappy all along. We do know, some of the money spent on JBJ and Story could have been used on pitching. Let's see how the rest of the season plays out.
  10. No, but they both had better OPS Against the 3rd time through than Big Nate, last year. If it's all about the 3rd time through, then let's make it all about who has proven they can go three times. The three I see are Big Nate, Hill and Wacha. If you try it, and it fails, then make another adjustment.
  11. Only .033 behind Renfroe.
  12. We just wasted Hill & Houck for two games, now. Time to name Houck the closer and take the training wheels off Hill.
  13. I don't get the pitch count thing with Rich. Is it age -related or is he hurt? He doesn't pitch like he's hurt or tired.
  14. Can we end this Hill-Houck piggy cah-cah?
  15. I'm willing to cut Cora some slack due to the delayed and shortened ST'ing and the fact that we had a 15 man staff thought April, but I agree. It's time to "take the kid gloves off," stop pampering" our starters or whatever you want to call it. It doesn't have to be every start, or even every time a pitcher is pitching well and has under 90 pitches, just try it a few times with guys who have proven, as recently as last season, they can go 3 times through a line-up without getting shelled. The time is now, and I won't argue with anyone who says the time was yesterday or a week ago.
  16. So, Hill is coming up on 1200 IP over his 18 years as a pitcher in MLB. Even the oft-injured Big Nate has that many by age 32.
  17. He pitched about 33 innings, total, in those 3 years. I'd prefer the 4 start season of 2015, where he got almost that amount of IP in just that one season.
  18. Exactly, but his arm is as fresh as a 32 year old's, until it's not.
  19. 8 starters on the farm, have an OPS Against better than or within 80 points of JBJ's .517 OPS: .381 Walter .540 Winckowski .548 Seabold .551 Murphy .562 Gonzalez .562 Uberstine .594 Bello .594 Santos Then, there is Keller at .601, Dhern at .619 and Groome at .638 What about the best pen arms? .259 Politi (8.2 IP) .275 German (8.0)- the Ottavino trade .421 Danish (4.1) .423 Z Kelly (7.2) .482 Spacke (9.1) .492 Bautista (10.0)
  20. He's 42, but his IP is like a 32 year old's.
  21. Well, all your best pitchers who can go 4-6+ innings. I'm not sure Koji should have been a starter, but I get your point and agree. Whitlock should start. Houck should be the closer.
  22. I think Houck should be the closer, but he has to be available to pitch. Vax or trade him to Baltimore. Tell him that, and who cares if he goes public. Call up Seabold, if we need to use Whitlock as the closer or long man.
  23. I really had a sense that if we pulled this game out, maybe it would mean the start of something, then this...
  24. It's anything and everything. The sky has fallen.
