  1. Snakebite Season!
  2. Yup. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/09/garrett-whitlock-to-undergo-season-ending-surgery.html
  3. I guess Bogey, JD and others saying they'd love to stay in Boston must mean they hate Bloom.
  4. I'm hopeful he will make the right choices. He will likely get a couple wrong for every 3-5 he gets right. He really can't miss on the big signings, despite a league-wide record of more wrong than right on the biggest signings. I'm thinking he will make one big trade, which includes parting with a top 5-10 prospects, but we'll see.
  5. After trading Betts and his $27M and $16M of Price's deal, Bloom still cut salary, so that is pretty clear evidence, too. I suppose, he could have tried to dump Sale or trade Bogey and JD, so he could keep Betts and re-set the tax, but then where would we be, now?
  6. No, I know your beef has only been about the return. On Bogey and Raffy, yes, Bloom has choices on where to spend. It might still come down to JH approving a big contract (or disapproving), but I think Bloom will be the one who makes the choices. One thing to think about, if we do have a restricted budget, and Bloom signs Bogey and Devers, he may not have much left over to fill other high need areas, and we go "light", maybe have some consideration about the results in those other areas. I would call it a mistake to pay Bogey $220M/8 and also sign Devers to $300+M. We'd have nothing to spend on pitching, RF and the pen.
  7. I know Swi did a lot. I'm pretty sure others did. I'd guess at least 4 or 5. I remember hearing things like... Bloom could have found a way to fit him in the budget (which was impossible, as we slashed the budget, even after dumping the $27M Betts got and $16M of Price's deal.) Bloom could have convinced Henry to spend more. He traded away our franchise player. And actual quotes like, "Bloom did, in fact , trade Mookie Betts. That is the truth. It was one of his first moves. Everything else about it is just speculation." Were you on this site, at the time of the trade?
  8. Red, here it is...
  9. Maybe Bieber, who has 2 years left? (57.8 on BTV) Marlins 119.8 Alcantara (5 yrs) 68.8 Perez (minors) 40.2 Rogers (4) 35.3 Lopez (2) 22.1 Luzardo (3) 15.9 Garrett (5) Some Sox BTV values: 55.4 Mayer (minors) 44.3 Whitlock (6) 39.7 Casas (minors) 31.5 Bello (minors) 29.9 Devers (1) 21.3 Houck (5) 18.8 Schreiber (4) 15.1 Rafaela (minors) 12.1 Yorke (minors) 11.3 Verdugo (2) 8.7 Bleis (minors) 8.7 Romero (minors) 6.6 W Gonzalez (minors) 6.5 Coffey (minors) 5.9 Duran (5) 5.8 Pivetta (2) 5.6 Lugo & Walter (minors) 5.0 Jordan (minors)
  10. I'm not saying I agree with their numbers, but that is what the numbers are based on. I'm not sure that number is way off. No GM knows what a player will do "next year," but if they knew they get a 2021 Eovaldi on a 1 year deal, he'd get more than $30M, IMO. Maybe $35M+.
  11. Did you read the opening post of this thread? I'm not going to go look for the post, but someone actually argued that Bloom could have convince Henry to spend more to keep Betts. I don't think it was Swi or some other poster, but it happened. I'm pretty sure more than one person has blamed Bloom for trading Betts, and not about the return.
  12. I've heard differing opinions on Story's arm. He looks great at 2B, so I'd prefer not messing that up. If we can't get Bogey to take $150M/6- maybe $156M/6 or $165M/7, I'd go for Swanson. I would not go super large and long on Turner or Correa.
  13. BTV makes adjustments several times a year.
  14. They are FA Market values, not based on average MLB cost.
  15. With Kike in CF, where he is better than 2B, I don't see the need to add two top quality OF'ers. I'd like to, but we need OF + 2B/SS mor ethan 2 OF'ers. I don't think we spend big on DH or 1B/DH, either.
  16. Revisit this long-running thread: https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/19692-Mookie-Betts-and-David-Price-have-been-traded-to-Dodgers/page56
  17. Others have, and you and others have complained about the return, a lot, despite information that has shown not much better was offered, although we'll never know if other, better offers were ever made. At the time of the trade, many blamed Bloom for not "finding a way" to keep him. Some even said things like, "He should have convinced Henry to pay him."
  18. So has Bloom.
  19. So, Kike to 2B and Story to SS? I'd keep Kike in CF, sign Nimmo for RF and get a 2B/SS somehow (Swanson or KWong?)
  20. I think Bloom will always look for several 1 year deals, but this winter, I'm thinking he will go 3 or more years on at least 2 players- probably 3. Unless these contracts are huge, we should be a ble to re-sign Devers, especially if we reset in 2023.
  21. He's certainly in the bubble. While his BA hardly improved from 2021, his OBP (+.044) and SLG (+.079) did. I think he gets another chance or is traded. He will not be DFA'd.
  22. I'm excited about this winter. Even if we spend right up to the tax line without going over, it's a lot of money. Unlike Ben, I think Bloom will pull the trigger on one big prospect for cost-controlled ML talent to fill one slot- most likely a top of rotation spot. I'm still enjoying this season, and look for ward to every Bello and Wacha start. I'm into watching McGuire and Wong. I'd like to see Refsnyder full time. I enjoy watching Kike in CF. I'd like to see Arroyo play everyday. I also greatly appreciate Bogey's improved D at SS and Devers at 3B. I think we have a nice core of players to work with- many that are not stars but who do what needs to be done- like Dugo and Pivetta. The team's record sucks, but as a fan, I see things to be optimistic about.
  23. They were a loaded team, but Brady gave them the confidence they needed. I don't think they win without him.
  24. I believe you, but I do think you tend to think their views reflect the views of Red Sox nation, as a whole. You sure mention them, a lot.
