I can understand the Yankess troll dissing Pivetta, but I'm not sure why any Sox would. We gave up squat to get him. He costs peanuts. He eats innings. He's at 48% in QS, this year. The league average 36%, and on a team like ours, with pen issues, he's very valuable as a solid #2/3 type that would be nicer as a #4. It's hardly his fault, that he's been forced to be the #2 much of the year.

I believe, after the tanking, which would not be accepted by many posters, here, Theo was given a pretty large checkbook after year 3, which is what I expect Bloom might get.

No suggested solutions- just griping. Isn't this the guy that is still crying about the Vaz trade?

I would hope and think most GMs look beyond career numbers. Pivetta has a 4.30 ERA since joining the Sox, and while a 103 ERA+ is just barely above average, he gives his team innings. His 4.12 FIP supports the data that he has become a decent 3/4 starter. Many teams have worse #2's.

Another DD farm addition. He did much better than many of us gave him credit for doing with the farm.

I get it, and I'm always for upgrading the rotation from the top, and the more years of team control at a low/lower cost- the better. I was just trying to point out that MIA would probably rather have Blies or Walter than Pivetta.

Luzardo might be the easiest one to pry from MIA, but for good reason.

I don't think MIA wants a guy about to reach his last two rather expensive Arbs in Pivetta. I'd love Alcantara over Lopez, but Lopez is also reaching his last 2 Arb years and would cost way less in return. Another idea might be to take on Av. Garcia's dead money contract to bring down the return cost way down. Maybe he can bounce back as RF/DH type for us. I'm fine with trading some prospects, but this deal would be a lot to give up. (Not saying I'm against it, but it's a tough choice, and they might demand Bleis.)

I'd rather keep RF defense a top priority and Verdugo in LF.

It's hard to know. I thought Ben deserved at least one more year, and I felt he was about to trade some prospects and shift gears. If Bloom gets fired, this winter, I think it would be about trying to quiet the noisy/bitching fans that seem to have gotten quite deafening, of late. I'm not sure how much he cares about them, but he does care about attendance and NESN viewership. If he doesn't think Bloom is capable of spending wisely, this winter and building a team fans will recognize as being exciting and competitive, maybe he hires someone to replace him. Someone with a known track record of signing the right higher ticket FAs. This is just my opinion, but I do not think he'd be looking for the next "empty out most of the farm" type GM. I, too, think Bloom returns through the winter, at least. (I'd say 98% chance.) If we flounder, next season, injuries or not, he might be gone mid-season or next winter, but maybe Henry has bought into some sort of 5 year plan, and though disappointed by 2022, the excitement from 2021 balanced 2022 out, and the state of the farm and future budget is where JH wants it to be.

I'd like to see one of two moderate additions, perhaps on 1 year deals. Choose 1-2 from... OF/DH 1B/DH (DFA Hosmer and/or demote Dalbec) C who can also hit SP depth Pen depth

Seabold continued his downward slide, last night. 5IP 6H 4ER 2BB 4K while Connor Wong (3-5) continues making his case for a legit shot at winning the back-up catcher slot in 2023. I'm pretty sure, he'll be a September call-up. Stewart his the most quiet 19th HR in the system. Nobody ever talks about him. Portland won 8-0, and Mata is really impressing me. 6IP 5H 0ER 2BB 9K His ERA is now 1.85 on the farm. 2023 ready? Rafaela went 2-5 w a 3B to improve his AA OPS to .839. Recently acquired Wilyer Abreu also went 2-5, but Potts did most of the damage going 2-4 w a HR and 5 rbi. Story went 0-1 w a SF & rbi. Lugo continued mashing w GRE. I think this was his 5th HR in 4 games. Hickey went 2-3 with a BB. (57 BB & 63 Ks in 216 ABs). Rosier and Ferguson walked twice, each. Bonaci went 3-5 with Salem. He has 80 BB and 80 Ks on the season and had none of either, last night.

I tried to keep it simple and modest, but I agree about LF and DH. It's usually easy to find 1 year fill-ins for those positions. The rotation, pen and pitching depth looks greatly improved, IMO.

Amazingly, he still has an option left, so it's also how bad the pitching is on the 26, too.
