  1. Or Verdugo and Maeda? Or the reported SDP offer? Holding out for better would have meant getting nothing.
  2. Wow! Only 4 BBs per 9! At this rate, he'll get to 2 BB/9 by age 38.
  3. You are really putting your chances at the Poster of the Year Award at risk. Hats off to going all out, until the end.
  4. WAR is supposed to be all encompassing, but there is always some new shiny tool that comes along. Also, WAR just values what you produced. It does not always look at how you did it. How much luck was involved? It also is not meant to predict what is to come.
  5. I don't think it helps.
  6. Yes. That's how most of these lists and decisions are made. I still think Bleis is the real deal... not that Casas isn't, too.
  7. They did "replace him-" just not anywhere near in kind, as expected. I think his point was more about how little we did to even get to average in RF.
  8. Nobody was saying we'd finish last in 2013 or the years MVP mentioned, except 2020. Nobody said the word "tank," that I remember, but the pre-season outlook was very similar to 2012 and 2014.
  9. MVP: What were the moves to replace Mookie?
  10. I get a funny feeling he'd have been the best of 2 signed, or worse, the only one.
  11. ...and many others, too. Sometimes it's just a gut feeling. No slight on Casas, but I think Bleis should be ranked higher. If I knew more about the lower minors, I'd probably have had some of them on my top 40 list.
  12. Nobody can really replace Mookie, but to me, Haniger is a big step below Nimmo. His health is the big worry, so if he's okay, he would be better than Renfroe... maybe.
  13. And, they signed no real big names. Vic was the biggest at $13M x 3. My point was that at the start of the year, many felt about the same as the start to the "tank years" MVP mentioned. To me, only at the start of 2020 have I ever felt we'd finish in last place, since JH's tenure began.
  14. They did not really replace Mookie or his contract. Renfroe did fine on offense, one year, but he was soon gone. The good feeling options on the FA market list is one deep: Nimmo, but I seriously doubt we will even be a final contender for his services.
  15. Ever since Devers, I tend to rank more on upside, knowing full well, they have less of a chance of making it than those with more experience and proven production on the farm.
  16. Are they looking for non 40 man roster prospects to open slots for other additions, or do they want ML talent at positions of higher need?
  17. I'd be interested. Give us Winker, too. Who do you see on BTV with near equal value that you'd want in return?
  18. You think we get him for $1M more, or maybe even more money up front? Personally, I hope we get better than him, but all this talk of Eflin, Heney and the like makes me feel like I did after we signed Perez, I, Perez II, Richards, Wacha and Hill- reaching for long shots.
  19. December 7 is the Rule 5 Draft.
  20. The Rays make a big splash, for them: they signed Zach Eflin for $40M/3. $11M, $11M then $18M (likely the year they trade him.) Cue someone to bash Bloom for "being asleep at the wheel."
  21. Some thought 2013 was going to be a "tank year."
  22. I've said this a number of times. There are examples where they kept some fan favorites around a bit too long, not that each moves was without justification without my supporting opinion: Schilling (signed him for 2008 at $8M, which was pretty big money, back then) VTek (although it was VTek who turned down a bigger contract) Lowell (last 2 years had a -0.1 bWAR) Youkilis (should not really count, since he did very well for the first 3 years of the 4 year deal, but we traded him during year 4.) Pedroia (looked like a decent to very good deal to most fans I knew, at the time) Buchholz (at his age, the deal looked solid. This example should not really fit into the aging players we kept vs letting go, but I though worth mentioning) Sale (bringing this fan fave back on a longer range deal has just about run out of time for any redemption.) We let JBJ walk, then made a boo-boo bringing him back. I do agree, we let manny of our fan faves go, just in time. I don't see this as being an issue with this team over 2 decades, but recently, it seems to be made out to be a bad thing.
  23. They also knew Pedro's arm was hanging by a thread. They were a big market team when they did the Dodger dump trade of CC with & Beckett & AGon, too.
  24. I put him 5th, but 7th or 8th would have been fine.
  25. Hey, Boyd just signed for $10M/1 with the Tigers! The fun has just begun!
