  1. I think some of that stuff is overblown. I do think many of these guys would be better served going through a natural progression through the minors, but I'm not sure many, if any, have been ruined by being selected Rule 5. They still get workouts under the best coaching in the system (maybe not the best for them)and pitch simulations with the best hitters in the game. I doubt they force anyone into pitching more IP than they should have- more likely it is almost always less real game innings, which can harm or stunt growth, but probably not in a long-lasting manner.
  2. I still think Arauz would have become an all star had we not selected him Rule 5.
  3. Yes, most prospects amount to squat, but many "suspects" become very useful players and even stars.
  4. What were the chanced he'd be selected? 0.01%?
  5. The trade for Yordan helped, too.
  6. Good point. One could argue since nobody would likely claim Brasier and Ort off waivers, other GMs seemingly valued Song and Ward more than those two.
  7. He only was ranked 9th on SP's out of the gate, and then he quickly fell to 11-13th, and later down to 17th and then out of the top 20 by mid 2017.
  8.
  9. ...and is anyone really "freaking out" over this?
  10. I certainly do my share of high speculations. We have a local grocery chain that makes fresh squeezed OJ. I'm addicted.
  11. I share your opinion that Ward and Song seemed to have more promise than Brasier, Ort and Hosmer. (We replaced Park with Chang and needed a middle IF'er on the 26 and 40.) I will say, there is a chance Brasier and Ort help us in 2023, where neither of these guys would. If Brasier and or Ort end up sucking and either of Ward or Song go on to do well, I'll be highly critical, too, but only time will tell. I do think we made a mistake, but it's all highly speculative, at this point.
  12. It wasn't an "L," and I don't drink coffee. It was the "loser" comment you now ignore, which is what you do.
  13. He just mentioned one source not to check. He did not imply that was the only source that counts. I'm glad you are not a judge.
  14. Mr. Don't- make- it- personal shows his hypocrisy.
  15. Moncada wasn't 29, but he made more on day one.
  16. He may very likely end up being a dud, but he wasn't ranked 4th by SP's for no reason. (TWard reached 8th.)
  17. Imagine, if they counted Yoshida!
  18. That implies not states.
  19. Not a bad list. I can't blame Yankee fans for liking their present standing in the here and now as well as the near and extended future, although some of these contracts will become over-bearing and you guys have a lot of aging players in very key roles in 2023. People talk about the Sox adding older guys like Jansen, Kluber and Turner, but the Yanks have more than their fair share, too, especially in the 32-34 range. Key roles held by older players: Sox DH Turner 38 SP2 Kluber 36 RP2 Martin 36 RP6 Bleier 35 CL Jansen 35 RP7 Brasier 35 CF Duvall 34 SP6 Paxton SP1 Sale 33 Yanks 3B Donaldson 37 UT LeMahieu 34 1B Rizzo 33 DH Stanton 33 LF Hicks 33 RP4 Kahnle 33 SP1 Cole 32 Red= key roles
  20. Me, too. Even a guy like Paxton seems like a better bet, this year than the past two. I know Whitlock still has a lot to prove as a wire-to-wire SP'er, but if health or youth can be on our side, we should be able to yank him early or give him an off day, here and there, to help keep him fresh, all year. Having a stronger pen will help Cora decide on a quick hook a little more often, this year than last, although he was often accused of being too quick, last year with an awful pen. I'm not sure if the warming spring is fueling my optimism, but I'm feeling better and better about our chances as the days go by, despite no new additions or changes in players' outlooks.
  21. Call me a homer, but I like our SP'er depth much better than 2022. 1. There is no Seabold. 2. Crawford and Wink are a year older and should not be viewed as worse choices than last year. If they don't look sharp, they will be replaced by others (see #3.) 3. Mata, Walter and Murphy look better, to me, than Wink, Crawford and Seabold looked last February. 4. Houck is still an option. 5. Whitlock should be a nice addition. 6. Bello showed signs of sticking around for a while, after a rough start to his career. 7. Paxton and Sale are not looking at July and August ETAs. It's not like these two are 39. 8. Kluber seems to be a better gamble for 2023 than he looked to be in his previous 2 Februarys. 9. Pivetta has been a steady workhorse who has had 2 pretty long stretches of pitching like a #3 or even a #2, during each of the last 2 seasons. Maybe he can put together a full season of pitching like a 3/4 slot starter. 10. We just need 4-5 to look good, and not have 2-3 be hurt, at the same time.
  22. I'm confused by what you are saying here. Maybe it's typos.
  23. It would be great, if they return him to us. If he shows any signs of life, another team might trade for him and keep him on the 26 the rest of the season, in hopes he progresses.
  24. My head will explode, only if TWard or Song amount to anything good. I'll hold the pressure inside my brain in check, until then.
