  1. Pretty costly, too, back in that day, especially the posting fee or bid, or whatever they called it.
  2. Okay. I guess I should have remember he might have said "real deal" on BDC many years ago. My "trouble understanding" is on full display.
  3. Yes, it's way too complicated for me to remember a person I never knew.
  4. I thought we were talking about the SP'er depth chart. I'm fine with any of these guys being used in the pen. I'm not sure where they should be placed on the pen depth chart. Where they are on the SP'er chart, especially with 3 guys hurt, might determine where they are on that list. I'm not sure what "doesn't matter" comment is all about, except to try and stir things up. I'm fine with someone pivoting to another issue, especially when he was clear about doing so.
  5. That good stretch was a pretty long 11 starts. I'm choosing to think that is something he may return to, but it's hard to know. I hope it's not just wishful thinking, but like Red, I'm not counting on anything, as of now.
  6. The original 6 SP'ers for the 26 were: Sale, Kluber, Whitlock (hurt), Paxton, Pivetta and Bello (hurt). Whitlock, Bello and Sale have not pitched in one or more of our 9 games- 2 due to injuries and Sale due to manager's choice. Other SP'ers "in the mix" who have pitched are Houck, Wink, Crawford, Walter, Murphy and Mata. It's not like no other SP'ers are getting time. Look, there was certainly time to squeeze Sale into one of the first 9 games, and they chose not to do so, but I'm not sure saying he was "pushed back a week" is an accurate statement. One could say, they just gave 8 others a look, first: IP/Gm in ST 5.0/2 Craw 5.0/2 Wink 4.2/2 Kluber 3.0/2 Walter 2.2/2 Murphy 2.0/2 Mata 1.2/1 Houck 1.2/1 Paxton (got hurt) 6 SP'ers have pitched in 2 games before Sale has pitched 1, so it does look like he has been given more time to prepare for his first game action. I don't disagree. I'm just not sure about saying a "week off." I'm not trying to make a big deal over this, but I don't see him starting game 10 as being a big issue or a sign of "babying." Let's see how they treat him, going forward. If he's ready to start one of the first 5 games of the season, I'll have no issues with the way they handled him- "babying" or not. With Whitlock, Paxton and Bello likely starting the season on the IL or bench, we need Sale in the starting 5 to begin the season.
  7. Although his 2019 ERA was 4.40, his FIP was 3.39. 13.3 K/9 (career 11.1) 2.3 BB/9 (2.1 career) 5.9 K/BB (5.3 career) 7.5 H/9 (7.3 career) 1.089 WHIP (1.042 career) 1.5 HR/9 (1.0 career) Most are not far from career totals, except ERA and HR/9. Also, .696 OPSA vs .628 career is pretty significant. n.696 is not all that bad. We'd want a hitter benched, if he hit that.
  8. You cursed him?
  9. I think this is our 9th game, today. If our 6 starters were each given a start from day one, maybe Sale would normally have started game 6. Starting game 9 is only being pushed back maybe 3 days, not a week or more. It's as easy as 3-2-1.
  10. Is 160 IP, a 3.25 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP somewhat reasonable for 2023?
  11. I'm not sure the 3.5 BB/9 rates by Winck and Crawford are impressive enough to outweigh Mata's pluses, but since they have experience, I think they both are ahead of Mata on the SP'er depth chart. I see Mata being close to Walter, if not ahead on that list.
  12. Who says he's been pushed back a week?
  13. No such thing as curses, especially from posters on this site.
  14. Until he gets hurt, he should be high on the depth chart.
  15. Gotta be Alfaro with Wong questionable.
  16. I think he’s the real deal!
  17. I thought the extension was okay, and figured even if he missed one full year, it would be worth it, if he remained Chris Freakin' Sale. Sadly, he has not, so far, but I am not writing this guy off. I still think he can come close to what he was, if he can just stay healthy. His more recent injuries are not related to the arm, so that's somewhat encouraging, but it is way past time he starts doing something.
  18. So, you have Walter ahead of Mata.
  19. Somebody has to be the last SP'er to get a chance, and maybe picking the guy who has been out for years is a logical choice.
  20. In terms of pitching in games, yes. Like I said, I'm not defending the plan. I'm just trying to figure out the reasons.
  21. Looks right. Who has the best chance at squeezing in? Wink? Mata? Walter?
  22. Indeed. He's pitched in 7 seasons. Even if you count it as 6, he's average less than 100 IP per season (583 IP.)
  23. My guess only... They know Sale is such a fierce competitor, may be they were trying to get his arm strengthened up before an actual game situation. I'm not defending the move. I hope the rest of the spring is designed to have him ready for opening day.
  24. For one thing, the OF'er moving over is not the same alignment as the IF shift, but it does serve much of the same purpose. It would also make having Kike in CF a bigger plus, as he can play 2B, well. The LF wall in Fenway really helps the shift, since blasting one to LF will rarely end up being a triple with no LF'er. My question is, can the modify the rule, now, or is it too late.
  25. Crawinck 10 IP 0 ER Not bad for a couple of post-suspects.
