We did add Story (5 years), Yoshida (5 years) and Devers (10 more years) in less than a 12 month period. We slightly expanded the concept of "stopgap" from 1 to 2 year deals, or one year deals with options (all club options, except Turner's, which is a combo player-club.) It's not like fans are going to be thrilled we got 2 years of Jansen, Martin, Kluber and Joely, but 2 years is a little better than 1. We extended Kike from 2 to 3 years, too. I know that thrilled many fans. With guys like Rafaela, Bello, Mayer, Casas and others knocking on the door, I can see why we put off adding long term at a few positions.

I doubt we'd play his full contract. BTV has him at -$7M. We could send them Brasier and ask for $4-6M with DeJong. That may keep us under but leave very little for deadline deals, if needed.

Whitlock may be a bigger key to this year's success than Sale and Paxton combined. -
Half the team isn't hitting, now. He might have more 2023 promise than Arroyo, Wong and maybe even Turner & Casas.

Indeed, it's nearly impossible to make major additions, now. It's easy to just say, "we need to add someone, now," but the cost would likely be something hardly anyone would agree is worth it, especially other GMs.

Agreed, but I'd like to know what exactly Red would like to see Bloom do. It's easy to complain about "not doing anything," but who would he give up and for _____?

I'm not sure DD would have traded Bello, Casas, Houck or others, but I don't see him standing pat as much as Bloom has with our farm capital.

Yes, a much better farm plus recent grads like Bello & Whitlock. (Although Bello is not a Bloom guy, DD might have traded him by now.) We shoulda stole more...

It's very hard to trade for impact player in April and May. It almost never happens. That's not to say it can't happen. Reynolds might be the one guy available, but his asking price has been too high for any team to match. BTV accepts: Mayer for Reynolds Casas, Yorke, Walter & Duran for Reynolds (I'm not sure PIT accepts this one.) Do you approve of either deal?

It's the way of the world, now. Sensationalism and focusing on the worst in everyone. I can see how this part of the book was something Sox fans would be interested in. I can see why someone, especially a non-Sox fan, would bring it to our intention. ' Just about every person of interest to the public faces this kind of scrutiny and exposure. It's no wonder, we end up with weirdos and narcissists running for public offices. What sane person would seek this out? -

I was thinking more in line with their key scouting and developing people. Their GMs and managers seem to come and go, seamlessly.

These Rays are always doing better than what most pundits think they'll do. They have ex GMs and staff all over the league, but why is it so hard to emulate their system- or steal some key personnel away?

He's your longtime punching bag, for some reason, but at he does deserve harsh criticism. In his defense, of the top 9 batters by PAs on the Sox, 5 have better OBPs, counting Duval now on the IL, and 3 have worse (Arroyo, Casas & Wong.)
