  1. One could argue, batters in the playoffs are likely to be facing better pitchers, so staying even with their OPS is actually a plus. (Not me. I don't think it is a repeatable skill.) Perhaps the guy we think of as Mr. Clutch would be Papi. .931 career OPS .956 w BOS .947 playoffs Career .870 Late & Close .943 High Leverage
  2. No, it's not, but there is such a thing as a clutch hit.
  3. Why is Duvall back but not Story? I used to think the best overall hitter should bat 3rd, but that is a thing of the past. Devers in the #2 slot to start any line-up. I still think Yoshida's approach should make him the leadoff hitter, and since Dugo is showing power, maybe it makes sense to move him off #1. 1. L Yoshida DH/LF 2. L Devers 3B 3. R Duvall LF 4. 4. Everyone believes in clutch- just that it is not a sustainable skill. BTW, I scored more than half my winning team's points in our championship basketball game back in '77.
  5. I do think people who experience tough times appreciate the good ones more than some fortunate people who take them for granted.
  6. I didn't mean to imply Yankee fans are correct in their criticisms.
  7. ...and some said we "backed the Wong horse."
  8. We need a SS, badly. How about Dugo & Wong for Betts?

  10. Whitlock might give Pivetta or Kluber an even longer reprieve.
  11. Yes, that's why I posted the IP/GS on the same post. Do try to keep up.
  12. Fine with me, but we need 5 capable SP'ers.
  13. Kluber leads the Sox in IP, actually tied with sale with 29.1. IP/GS 5.3 Whitlock 5.2 Houck (League Avg 5.2, which is not 5 and 2/3) 4.9 Kluber, Sale, Pivetta 4.5 Crawford 4.1 Bello Team Total 4.9, which is about 1/3 an inning off the league average. With an 8 man pen, I'm not sure we are overtaxing anyone- not that anyone is saying we are. 14. That 13 man staff would also force the DFA of Brasier, so YES! (Bleier, too. Oh well.)
  15. I'm not against the idea, but like you said, our rotation is in shambles.
  16. I wonder, if we even talked to Iggy. You'd think he'd have chosen Boston, to play in the bigs over the minors, so I'm thinking we did not bother. We'd have had to DFA (Brasier, Brasier or Brasier) or 60 day IL someone (Duvall, retroactively?).
  17. Yankee fan: "Our GM neglected the lineup!" Red Sox fan: "Our GM neglected the rotation!"
  18. Is there room for 4 long men in the pen? Wink Craw Whit Houck
  19. Wrong, again, Mr. DFArroyo.
  20. That's a given.
  21. I'm not sure we can blame his injury on starting a few games. He only went beyond 4 IP, twice in 2022. BTW, in 2021 he did pitch with just one day rest 8 times and back-to-back days, once. You could be right: the pen might be safer and better for him.
  22. The 0 Ks in 5 IP was very unusual, but I'm also not sure about tipping pitches. To me, he has 2 good starts in his last 3 and needs another 2-3 in a row or 3 out fo his next 4 for me to feel confident he is back. He may still have some bumps coming up, but I will say, I feel better about him than I have in years.
  23. You mean 3BB/9 to 1.5?
  24. Tiny sample size, but.... .545 OPS Against, despite a .353 BAbip. 22 PAs against 0 BB 5 Ks 1.63 FIP 1.059 WHIP MVP can give you the "real" advanced stuff. He got lit up in 6 IP with SEA's AAA team, earlier, this year.
