  1. Nice game by Bello. Cora seems like he really wants his starters to go deeper, but they keep talking him out of it.
  2. They both have nasty stuff. It's hard to know who has more.
  3. True, and names like Lions, Tigers and Bears are so cool, you could write a song about them, but "Lakers" and "Jazz" are pretty weird for their locations and meaning.
  4. That's only half the Story.
  5. Speaking of fWAR and 2023... ATL has 2 of the top 4 fWAR players: 1. Murphy 2.4 4. Acuna Jr 2.0 and 3 in the top 30 (Olsen at 29 with a 1.3 WAR.) TOR has 2 in the top 7: 3. Chapman 2.1 7. Bichette 1.8 TBR has 2 in the top 10" 2. Franco 2.2 10 Y Diaz 1.7 (Lowe is at 22 with 1.4.) TEX has 2 in the top 6: 5. Heim 1.8 6. Semien 1.8 Shockingly, guess who makes the top 30 list (also T 26th)? Jarren Duran at 1.3 (He also has the lowest PA total- 84- in the top 49. Duval is at 50th with just 37 PAs.) Dugo is 21st at 1.4. The Yanks top guys is Rizzo at 35th (1.2.) SEA has 3 pitchers in the top 12: 6. Castillo 1.5 7. Kirby 1.5 12. Gilbert 1.3 Boston's to fWAR pitcher is Sale at #63 (0.6)
  6. Bello vs the lefty Lee 1. R Refsnyder LF 2. L Verdugo RF 3. R Turner 3B (Devers with the day off despite having Mon & Thu off) 4. L Yoshida DH 5. R Kike SS 6. L Duran CF 7. L Casas 1B 8. R Wong C 9. L Valdez 2B
  7. Good point, or Bears in Chicago.
  8. I'm thinking about SS. Between Kike, Arroyo and Valdez, we should be fine at 2B, but I don't want any of them at SS- ever. Now, when Mondesi comes back, Story at 2B makes much more sense. I'm not sure about this, though: SS: Chang/ 2B: Story > SS: Story/ 2B: Kike/Arroyo/Valdez ...although the D is probably better.
  9. I read them all. I'm talking about what Pivetta said. I want all my starters thinking they are good enough to keep starting, even when they suck.
  10. The choice of who is sent to the pen or AAA should be based on a few things, including how each pitcher has looked in his last 2-4 starts, options remaining (although I hope and don't think this doesn't lead to a Bello demotion), as well as who might be a better fit for the pen, or even who's psyche is better suited to handle a demotion to the pen. It's obvious Pivetta is pitching the worst of the 5, but he has also been the most durable and consistent starter on the Sox for over 2 years. I doubt that is enough to tip the balance to picking someone else. By the time Paxton pitches and the next 4 starts afterwards, we will have a chance to see one more start from the "candidates," or if Paxton gets drilled, maybe we let all 5 start one more time, before Paxton's next start. Usually, one might think it's a good choice to have 6 guys to choose from, but in our case, it's trying to choose the lesser of 6 evils.
  11. I'm still not sure what he said that set you off. Sounds like what every pitcher says after a bad night or bad few nights in a row. If he wanted to go to the pen, I'd be more concerned. Just about every Sox starter has pitched poorly enough to consider pen duty, but some are never going to be considered (Sale.)
  12. On plays to a 2Bman's left, he can't throw hard. It's hard for a 1Bman to catch a 90 mph throw from 15-25 feet away. Certainly, this would affect "avg mph."
  13. His point was that was when he was playing hurt, too. Before that it was not that bad. The surgery may bring it above 2021 and 2022 but maybe not all the way back, but maybe yes.
  14. So, Story won't be throwing any sliders to 1B?
  15. Some cherry-picked trending... Kluber 6.29 ERA 5.52 in 6 games after opener 3.86 last 3 (scary FIP of 5.28) Sale 6.37 ERA 5.01 since his first start 2.92 last 2 starts (1.62 FIP) Houck 5.26 ERA 5.23 since first start (3.60 FIP) 4.76 last start (yes, that's reaching) Bello 5.71 ERA 3.68 since first start (5.09 FIP) 2.70 last 2 starts (4.62 FIP) Pivetta has declined.
  16. It would be great if he gained some velo from '21-'22, but just getting back to near that would still make him a net plus on D, and even rusty, he should hit better than Chang/Kike.
  17. They tried to, last year: + JBJ - Renfroe + Story - Arroyo/Marwin/Chavis
  18. He was a winner here. He had some run support luck, at times, but it happened so often, that I have to believe he had a knack for keeping us in games. Team record in his starts with Sox: 19-4 in 2018 (the rest: 82-50) 26-8 in 2019 (the rest: 58-70) 2018-2019 combined: 45-12 (The rest: 140-130)
  19. Good point, maybe coming back to just below his norm will be better than 2021 with COL and 2022 with BOS, but maybe a tick below his healthiest velo days.
  20. The sad thing is, he's about the same as other SP'ers over the whole season. The last 5 starts are very worrisome. If he does poorly, his next start, it might be his slot Paxton takes.
  21. They may not know, just yet, who they may send to the pen, too. The next starts by some pitchers might play into the choice.
  22. His added range should more than make up for the few runners that reach due to a weaker arm than other SSs.
  23. Okay. Maybe you mis-typed, but you said "The best defensive OF...." I've been waiting for Kike to start hitting, again, for too long.
  24. Maybe the best part of a Paxton success story would be the ability to move someone (Whitlock?) to the pen as a long man to pair with the Winkman.
