  1. It's fair to criticize, but he does not set the budget. He was given part ownership because he got more out of a low budget team than almost anyone and built the fan base up to 2,227 fans.
  2. Yes, and they also printed Cora's quote about not being surprised to see Kike at SS in the 9th.
  3. The Astros have had some very significant injuries, and they aren't coming back. I still fear them more than NYY & TOR...maybe even BAL.
  4. It's no longer amazing to me, that winning Sox games have way shorter game threads.
  5. I don't think he said "anymore." He actually said don't be surprised to see him at SS in the 9th inning, or something like that. He's not the FT SS. Chang just got back, so I think Cora is easing him into an everyday situation- although Cora never plays anyone "everyday."
  6. If a lefty is starting, I'll be mildly disappointed, if he starts. Duvall is a way better hitter vs LHPs, and Kike has been for a long time, but this year by just a little.
  7. It's not a scam. He wasn't paid to win rings and doesn't tell the fans he will. BTW, in Beane's tenure as GM of the A's, how many GMs have won a ring? Are they all scams? How many of those scam GMs, of which I assume you'd say Bloom is included- a guy who actually did lead on his fanbase, have seen their team finish first once in the last 4 years and 3 of the last 12? The A's did finish 1st or second 7 of the last 14 seasons. That being said, the A's are headed to their 6th last place finish in the last 10 years. Sound familiar?
  8. Duran's growth has not been linear. Just 2 months ago, almost everyone would be okay with trading him. I want to keep him and would rather trade Rafaela and Mata than him.
  9. Would yo consider trading Duran as a "sell high" move, too?
  10. How'd that work out, last year? Fans seemed so thrilled.
  11. I can certainly see the logic in notin's list of moves. Trade Paxton, add Blackburn. Buyers and sellers, at the same time- same as last summer, but I like our chances better, this year. Maybe that all changes by August 1st. I would not be upset, if we get something good for Paxton & Duvall, but to me, if we go that route, we might was well trade the 2 year guys, as well.
  12. We all saw why D Hamilton was not called up earlier. EValdez did not kill us on D, but over time, he'd have been exposed as a poor defender. Reyes is not great at SS, but he was better than Kike. Having Story, Mondesi, Chang and Reyes all out at the same time is something most teams cannot overcome. Two, we knew were hurt, to start the season. This is not meant as an excuse for Bloom's SS choices. I wish we'd have just raded Taylor for a minor leaguer and signed Iggy.
  13. One problem is that some official scorers call the same play differently. The Sox have made countless bad plays that weren't even called errors. We suck on D. It might be one of the few things 90% of the board agrees on. Our hitting is plus. Our pen is plus. Our rotation has surprisingly been about average and maybe above average after the first 3 weeks of the season. Our D has potential to improve, especially at SS, 1B and 2B. LF could improve with Duvall there, but we can't play Yoshida and Turner at DH.
  14. Hate is a relative word. I find it hard to think his feelings towards Bloom are just at the "dislike" level. Apparently, by his own admission, it started before Bloom even made one move, so that kinda says a lot.
  15. Like Swihart, who proclaimed his love for the Red Sox but hated on 37 of 40 players on the roster, the coaches, the manager, the GM, the owner and even the ball girls. Not my idea of fandom, but to each his own. It seems some get their enjoyment out of life by complaining and pointing out how much everyone else sucks. I'm OK: you're not OK..
  16. On the Red Sox D: C: Wong has come a long way. Alfaro is a step down from McGuire (on IL.) I think the "learning curve" is over on building pitcher-catcher confort. 1B: Casas has been a huge letdown on D. I thought there was just no way we'd see just a slight improvement on D at 1B, this year vs 2022. Hopefully, he improves second half. 2B: Kike and Arroyo are fine on D as a combo. I'd like to see Story here, upon his return (see Chang at SS.) SS: I'd prefer Chang, but Story seems to be the guy at SS, when he returns. We should see great improvement here over Kike, who has started almost 60% of our games, here. 3B: Devers has improved greatly from his earlier years. He's okay, here. LF: Good thing Fenway can hide some poor OF D. Yoshida is scary out there. Duvall is a previous GG'er. CF: What a great turnaround by Duran at CF D. Kike still plays plus CF D, despite his horrific SS D. RF: Dugo is fine on D. Maybe we can see some improvement on D over the last 3 months.
  17. I've been critical of Cora's choices, like resting players too much and vs the wrong handed pitchers and many other times, but not so much singular moves. Kike is still a very good defensive CF'er and 2Bman. I haven't wanted him playing SS for a long time, but really.... who else did we have whan Story, Chang and Reyes were on the IL. Arroyo, EValdez, DHam? I'm not busting a gut defending those 3 SS D. Why are you so for playing a career .498 OPS guy vs lefties?
  18. Story's return might help the D, too, but not by much, if he just replaces Chang at SS. Chang at SS and Story at 2B would greatly improve our MI defense. I do think Kike is a better 2B defender than Arroyo and EValdez.
  19. Nobody likes our D. We may end up missing the playoffs because of it. Some choose to focus on what's wrong with the team and nothing else. Not saying that's you, but you do tend to be hypercritical.
  20. I guess being right so seldomly makes one cling to it.
  21. I'm not so sure about trading Paxton, but I do think we deal Duvall and use Kike as the back-up or platoon CF'er. If we can trade for a longer term SP'er, I'd still keep Paxton, if we have a shot.
  22. I'd certainly like to see Duran get more chances vs lefties, to see if he can turn around his horrible numbers vs them. He's turned around other aspects of his profile, so maybe he can. I'm not sure now is the time to experiment. vs LHPs: .863 Duvall (.774 career) .677 Kike (.813 career) .600 Duran (.498 career) They are all plus OF'ers on D. Cora is so dumb to play the better hitters.
  23. I never said anything close to this. I'm not ripping Duran. He's been great for us- just not vs lefties. Duvall is no chump, and I'd take his bat over Duran's vs a lefty any day of the week. I've been a Kike fan for a long time, but have not been defending his overuse at SS, despite the lack of many other options. I do think Cora is playing him a bit too much, but he does hit lefties better than Duran, and I don't think Arroyo is a clear choice at 2B over Kike. Please stop making up positions I do not hold.
  24. The guy has been a serious hitter going on 10 years, now. I'm not sure why hardly anyone noticed. He's also been a playoff hero a few times. Another player who has proven he can hit is Duvall. He's had more down years than Turner, but the guy can hit. He's hit .774 since 2019. His 650 PA line would be: .232 40 110 I guess the .232 really upsets certain people, even the one who loved Renfroe's 100 rbi season to death.
