  1. I'm always for adding pitchers, and from the top- not 5th starter types. I was just trying to give a justification for their choice. It does make some sense, to me. The longer term positional players will still have value in year 5 (Story, Yoshida...)
  2. Maybe somewhere in between would be ideal.
  3. Okay. Good to know.
  4. True, but I think they subtract positional value from DHs, too.
  5. I have said I think they will have Houck in the rotation, next year. I'm hoping they add two solid SP'ers, but I could certainly see them using Crawford as a SP'er. Even without Houck in the pen, the pen looks solid (assuming a rotation of Sale, Bello, ____, Pivetta and Houck): Jansen, Martin, Winckowski, Schreiber, Bernardino/Joely(?) (Kelly, Robertson, Jacques, Guerrero, Politi, Fernandez, Denlinger) Whitlock, Crawford (SP?), Murphy (Walter, Mata, Drohan, Liu, Nav Belle, Wikelman, Gambrell, Bastardo)
  6. We don't know, if it will change, but I do think the budget will grow, next year, and not the pen seems all set, and the everyday player slots seem filled, as well as having some depth, so what is left to spend on? C: Wong, McGuire and a solid farm of catchers (Scott, Teel, Hickey, Brannon, RHern...) 1B: Casas (Dalbec, Jordan...) 2B: urias, Reyes (EValdez, Yorke...) SS: Story, Reyes (Mayer, DHam...) 3B: Devers Reyes (Meidroth, Bonaci...) LF: Duran, Yoshida, Refsnyder (Rosier...) CF: Rafaela, Duran RF: Dugo, Abreu DH: Yoshida, Refsnyder (Dalbec, Meidroth, Kavadas...) I'd be fine without adding a single everyday player or pen arm. I know losing Turner and Duvall will probably mean we add one piece, but we don't HAVE to do it. This is not to say I think JH and Bloom will spend mostly on the rotation. I never know what they will do.
  7. Actually, it has 3 lights. (Two about 50 feet from each other.)
  8. He has to know this has been a weak area since 2018. For some reason, he has chosen to fill the many other areas of need, first. To me, that makes sense in terms of this being a 5 year plan. Why sign a high priced pitcher year 1 or 2, or even 3, if you are building up for year 5? All the one year deals support the idea that the plan was never to "win now." This is just my opinion, and the other side has some good points, too.
  9. That's "the corner" of the whole state of Maine, as several major roads cross there.
  10. He visits my corner, frequently.
  11. I've been calling for more pitching for 50 years.
  12. Isn't there a time limit on rehab assignments?
  13. Yes, that's why I said "at the time" they were highly regarded.
  14. I suggested several trades that BTV accepted, many had poor grades indicated by Sox fans that show I was perhaps offering too much. Most of the BTV trades I suggest have us giving greater BTV value in return.
  15. Tighten, not keep the same. There is no reason to think our budget won't be the same or larger as the tax line increases, next year. I doubt it will be "an out." BTW, I did not use it last winter, and went out of my way to say his spending budget made last winter his "defining moment," "legacy year," and "make or break winter." I still believe that, but I do not think JH is making this year a "show major progress or be fired" season. My position has been clear and consistent.
  16. ...and you still think Boone, too- right?
  17. If rumors are true... UH-OH!
  18. Dead horse.
  19. Ok, sub in Jordan, EValdez, Walter or some other non top prospect.
  20. On SP's projected 2024 rosters, they have Mayer, Hickey & Wikelman starting the season in AA. Which one has the best chance to start in AAA or be promoted first?
  21. That did look great, at the time, and judging that one in hindsight and this one in foresight seems wrong, but I would not be surprised to see this one do better. Good pull, indeed.
  22. Maybe not "big," but I do.
  23. If we end up on the outside looking in, we will only have ourselves to blame for going 0-9 vs PIT, STL and MIA- three teams that are under .500 by 12 games, combined. Other contenders vs those 3 teams: 6-3 TOR 6-3 SEA 4-2 HOU Has we just gone 4-5 vs these 3 teams, we'd be ... +3.5 on SEA +2 on TOR -0.5 HOU -3.0 TBR I'm sure any of the contending teams could pick 3 other teams to flip it right back on us, but those 9 games hurt.
  24. No GM would find that task easy. My guess is, we keep Houck and Crawford as SP'ers and sign one. Our best hope might be to sign 2. As of now, I hope it's Urias and Y.Y.
  25. Some of these sample sizes are small, but here are the 2023 numbers of key players Bloom has acquired in the last 2 seasons: .979 Story .846 Duvall .842 Turner .825 Yoshida ,759 Reyes .703 Refsnyder .690 McGuire .684 EValdez .552 Chang 1.37 Martin 2.70 Barraclough 2.70 Sherriff 2.77 Bernardino 2.86 Winckowski 2.86 Winckowski 2.97 Jansen 3.20 Schreiber (pitched 3 innings in 2021) 3.36 Paxton 3.68 Kelly (9 of the top 11 ERA pitchers- Murphy & Walter were here longer than 2 yrs) 4.16 Pivetta (started a few games in 2021) 4.91 T Scott 5.28 Bleier 5.85 Jacques 6.26 Ort 6.55 Joely 6.75 Dermody 7.01 Kluber
