Bleacher Reports grades the ALE drafts: A Toronto A- Tampa Bay B+ Boston B New York B Baltimore (For what it is worth.) CBS & Sporting News gave the Sox an A for drafting Teel.

I agree, but Perales is a difficult situation. He's Rule 5 eligible and has zero chance of playing on the big club in 2024. That, in itself, is not so bad, unless you have 3-4 players in the same boat. We basically did that with Rafaela & Abreu, this year. Perales was signed in 2019. The non season of 2020 hurt his development, and he pitched under 40 IP in 2021-2022 combined. He's been in our system for 4 years, but he doesn't even have 92 IP in the minors, yet. I hate selling low, but I think other GMs value his ceiling and would give us something much better, if he were a part of the package. The extra 40 man slot may end up helping, but it could mean nothing, if we hold the slot for opening day 40 man guys like Ort, Brasier or Tapia.

Sale had one bad start, then put up great numbers for a 10 game stretch. We went 8-3 in his starts. We are 5 games over .500. Do the math. Note: in one of those 3 loses, Sale went 8 IP allowing just 1 run.

Wrong! I never said opening day. We had several players on the opening day roster that did worse than these two who did nothing. Mills might help us, next year. Mondesi was a waste, but the 40 man roster slot was a minor issue. We've created 6 slots to the 40 man since opening day, some a revolving door. The whole talk of Ward & Song over Ort and Brasier turned out to be folly. (We could have axed both for Mondesi and Mills, and been no worse off.)

Would Perales be taken on Rule 5? I think yes, so I included him in the trade. I also like Bieber for another year, and maybe we can lock him up longer. You know, like other teams did with Betts and Castillo.

They all assume JH would pretend he's not paying Ohtani and spend the same on the rest of the team. One guy on BTV suggested we trade for Ohtani and Trout! LMAO!

Would you trade Rafaela, Winckowski, Walter & Perales for 1.3 years of Bieber (SP) and 2 months of Ahmed Rosario (SS)? BTV says it's a minor overpay by BOS.

Even if Ohtani agreed to extend at a somewhat reasonable rate, he's barely worth any of these broken down deals, too.

Being on the 60 day IL makes that not matter, so much, but yes. Neither did anything or will do anything. Mills might, going forward.

I would not do that deal, even if he extended with us. Just sign the guy as a FA and keep all you listed, if you want him so badly.
