  1. My point is, we have bigger worries than our 6th string DH.
  2. I think Paredes gets us very close to top contender status. At worst, we'd be top of tier 2. Fangraphs has us 7th (4th in the AL.) We are 0.3 from 8th (PHI) and0.8 from 6th (SEA) That sounds about right. Adding Paredes would jump us up to about #5 (ATL 45.4, as we are at 44.2, now.) One can argue if top 5 is a top contender or not. I'd say it's borderline as the LAD< NYY, NYM and TOR look significantly better, although I have my doubts about the NYY being over-rated.
  3. DH depth chart before we trade an OF'er: 1. Duran w other OF'ers on rest days 2. Masa 3. Casas (may start season on IL- maybe even 60 day.) 4. Campbell 5. Romy .... 10. DHam
  4. Then, other teams should have deductions, too.
  5. No, not at all. You keep saying "It didn't happen" as evidence that my suggestion was wrong. And yes, suggestions can be wrong, too, and many of mine have been wrong. (See how easy it is to admit being wrong?)
  6. Dear Mr. Strawman, I do look at it from his POV, too. I have never said it was even more than 50% his fault. It might not even be 33% his fault, and since we don't know all the facts, I'll just say several people were to blame, including Devers.
  7. The Oz would always be welcomed by me, even at 71.
  8. Me 2. Word is that HOU wants an OF'er. A lot of talk about Abreu, but I think they'd take any of ours. If we could get a lefty RP'er and or Janek for one, I'd do it.
  9. The guy is a hitter. I'm not worries about his hit tool.
  10. Strawmen, misrepresentations and diversions, OH MY!
  11. ...further complications came when the guy who made the promise to Devers was replaced, and he assumed the promise rolled over to the next guy.
  12. I'm not Gray, because we need him. There is a drop off between him and Bello, and then another one from Bello to the mix of Oviedo/Sandoval/Crawford/Harrison, and then the prospects, who offer higher upside but more uncertainty.
  13. I've confused William with Willson, too. No biggie. I don't think he will be a top 30 batter, but top 60 seems likely for him, Duran and Anthony. Maybe Abreu finally has the year we've hoped he would have. Maybe one of these 4 crack the top 30, and I'd bet on Anthony. One top 30 and 2-3 in the 31-60 range is not horrible, and I still maintain that our 5-9 batters compare pretty well with most team and seem more "balanced," but the real good teams blow the Sox away on offense: from top batter, to top 3-4 batters and top 5-6 batters. Adding a big bat is what we need most, right now.
  14. The thing about Devers is he did get a little better for a year or so, and he sometimes went some pretty long stretches where he looked better and possibly "improving," then he'd have a bad fielding slump. I'm not sure if it was lack of focus or being easily distracted. One puzzling comment came out during the whole cluster hoople, he actually said he thought he was a good 3Bman. He wasn't. Casas is even worse at 1B. Had we not signed Masa, maybe Bloom or Brez would have made the double move- maybe not. I would have 3+ years ago, but that's just my opinion.
  15. Maybe they are bad ideas. I'm open to the idea that I can and have been wrong. I gave some reasons that have merit, IMO. Casas is the worst defensive 1B in MLB. He's also a China Doll that could possibly stay healthier playing DH, despite the fact that he hurts himself flossing his teeth. Devers was horrible at 3B, but much of his issues were throwing, which isn''t as big an issue at 1B. He seemed to be pretty quick at 3B (not fast) and had a decent glove. I happen to think he'd be better at 1B than 3B, and add to that, how much worse can he be than the worst in MLB? I'm fine if Cora, Brez, Bloom and you and others disagree, but can you honestly say my idea makes little or no sense, at all? (And once more, my suggestions and opinions are not predictions, so just because it didn't happen doesn't mean it was the "wrong idea." The SFG did move Devers to 1B and perhaps forevers.! LOL)
  16. I'm pretty sure Brez has a few options in the works. Maybe he'll end up with someone we don't like that much or haven't even talked about, but maybe he'll get us a prize.
  17. For sure. They might not want Crawford for a couple bats, for all I know. I also realize throwing two lesser players together rarely works, unless the team is in total rebuild mode and the multiple players have promise. That's not the Astros. I do think Duran, Abreu & Bello have more value than Paredes, and BTV agrees by a lot, BTV does not have the final say, either. I'm on the fence offering any of those 3 as a one for one deal. I think the Astros should have to give us King, Abreu, Sousa of Janek. Maybe we add DHam, Mullins or some mid level prospect to help them say yes.
  18. I've heard the Astros really want Abreu. He has that 4th year, 2 GGs and seems poised to bust out. For those reasons, and Fenway's RF, I am leaning towards Duran going. BTV accepted Crawford for Paredes. I'd give Kutter & Sandlin for IP.
  19. Sox will try hard to get more, but might buckle. Not sure if they are in on Suarez and waiting to see if he takes their low-ball offer.
  20. Casas should have been viewed as the DH of the future. His 1B D was even worse than Devers at 3B.
  21. I think we both were saying this years ago. It couldn't have hurt to get him ready a few years back. Practicing 3B defense wasn't helping.
  22. Look who is slotted at DH... https://www.soxprospects.com/2026.htm
