  1. IMO, nobody else hits well enough to deserve to "rest" at DH. Maybe Story?
  2. With so many OF'ers worthy of a look-see, I think it makes most sense to DH Yoshida almost FT. Cora will give him 7-10 days off, and he could maybe play LF a little, so others can "rest" while DH'ing. I'd much rather DH Devers and Casas 2 days than give them another day off, but they will both get some days off with Cora at the helm. Maybe DH could look like this: Yoshida: 142 games Refsnyder: 10 games (v L) Devers: 5 games Casas: 5 games
  3. If Urias and Reyes are both on the 26. I think we could see these back-ups/fill-ins: 3B: Urias SS: Reyes (Rafaela) 2B: Reyes or Urias, whichever is not starting. 1B: ??? (Devers???) If we don't have Urias and Reyes, and look to get Rafaela more PAs by using him as a back-up IF'er, so Abreu can get more in the OF, then I guess we could do that. I'm not sure if using Rafaela at SS and 2B makes more sense than Reyes..
  4. Yes. I get it. I just offered a possible "current" alignment.
  5. I think most of us view Yoshida as the 2024 near FT DH. That might leave, "currently": LF: Duran (Refsnyder, Yoshida, Abreu) CF: Rafaela/Abreu (Duran) RF: Dugo (Abreu/Rafaela or Ref in some short RF stadiums) DH: Yoshida (Devers/Casas)
  6. A lot depends on Dugo's return or replacement, presumably by a RHB who can play CF and or RF. If Dugo returns and Yoshi is the FT DH: LF: Duran (Refsnyder?Yoshida) CF: Rafaela OR Abreu (Duran) RF: Dugo (Rafaela and Ref, if the RF is a smaller one.) Abreu or Rafaela in AAA Or, we could play Rafaela mostly in CF with some RF, with Abreu playing CF and maybe some LF and RF. I'm not sure enough ABs are there, especially if Ref gets 180+ vs mostly LHPs. If we trade Dugo and sign Duvall for RF: the same situation arises. Duvall has pretty even spits, but maybe Abreu plays RF, when he sits vs some RHPs.
  7. Indeed. It might be hard for both Rafaela and Abreu to make the 26, but if Yoshida moves to FT DH and we don't bring back Duvall or some other RHB for the OF, there should be room for both. The idea would be that both should play enough for them to grow and progress, but that might be hard. The board has spoken, and Duran is the FT LF'er, unless and until he shows he should be platooned or benched/demoted. Hopefully, that never happens. Dugo is the FT RF'er, who could probably use a platoon or partial platoon partner, but Ref sucks in RF, and Duran is not much better. Abreu bats lefty, so playing him there or in CF vs LHPs seems counterproductive. We could see ref in LF, Duran in CF and rafaela in RF in some games by LHPs, but how do we get Rafaela and Abreu playing nearly everyday? 650 PAs in CF maybe 100-150 in RF Is 750-800 enough for the two to split?
  8. I guess I should have use italics not CAPS.
  9. My main point is that Ref should start every game vs LHPs. IMO, playing LF or DH is the only place he should play, except maybe RF in some short RF stadiums. IMO, sitting Duran and Dugo makes the most sense, and since Ref plays LF, I chose Duran as the primary platoon guy, but I'm fine with not calling it that, if it soothes you guys. Last year, we faced a LH'd SP'er 42 times (about 25% of the games.) I could see it broken down like this: 22 games for Duran in LF 10 games for Dugo (someone else plays RF, unless it is a short RF stadium) 10 games DH for Yoshida (more games off than I would give a FT DH, but it is what it is.) This way we can call Duran the FT LF'er! HURRAY! (You talked me off the hill I was about to die on! LOL!)
  10. It does matter, as do runs scored as a result of speed.
  11. Can he sustain his .318 and .302 BAbip from 2021 and 2022?
  12. Indeed, and the money used from "unrestricted donations" could have been used in other areas, where public money is being used.
  13. Are you saying Duran's .400 BAbip vs LHPs is more sustainable?
  14. So, are you say8ing you prefer Ref play RF (for Dugo) vs LHPs over LF (for Duran?) Maybe play Duran in CF, Ref in LF and Rafaela in RF?
  15. Playing your best OBP guy is the correct use, yes. Since Ref sucks vs RHPs, yes, you force a platoon on whoever deserves to sit more: Duran, Dugo or Yoshida, but yes, Ref needs to start every game vs a LH'd SP'er. IMO, Duran deserves to sit the most, due to Ref sucking in RF, and Yoshida hitting LHPs better than Dugo and Duran. I'm fine with matching it up, so Ref does play in RF and DH when those two get a day off, and that might get Duran 10-20 starts vs a LHP, but to start the yea, I see Duran being the odd man out- most of the time.
  16. Wow! Thanks for pointing that out. I never knew this! 49 PAs: 0 SB, 3 DBLs (maybe some were leg dbls, but no more than 3,) 4 runs scored (1 every 12.2 PAs.) vs RHPs: 313 PAs, 22 SBs, 33 dbls + trpls and 42 runs scored (1 every 9.5 PAs) Of course Duran's speed adds to his value. IMO, it does not add enough to overtake Ref's value as a .420+ OBP guys- yes, in 2023, too! Ref vs LHPs in 2023 (his "off year.":) .428 OBP 145 PAs, 4 SBs, 7 dbld + trpls and 21 runs scored (a runs cored every 6.9 PAs)
  17. Yes, I pointed that out, already- twice. I would hesitate to play Ref in RF, unless it is a short RF stadium, so maybe a handful of games giving Dugo a day off. He could DH, when Yoshida gets a day off, and I'm sure Cora will give him more than most FT Dh's get, so he could get some there. The rest should be in LF, where his defense is as hidden as Duran's.
  18. He's not worth a roster slot as a weak fielding PH'er. It's not about the money. It's about correct use of a 26 man roster.
  19. I don't make determinations over 49 PAs. Platooning Duran does not mean he gets zero PAs vs LHPs. He'd have plenty of opportunities to show he can repeat his 2023 line vs LHPs or improve on it. He could even start a few games vs LHPs, when Yoshida is given one of his 10-12 scheduled days off, even as a DH. He could play RF in some short RF parks, while we give Dugo some of his 10-12 scheduled days off. If Duran shows he can hit LHPs, then Ref gets his starts somewhere else. He will get chances to prove it, even when platooned.
  20. Of course, .791 in the short season. .791 in 82 PAs '20 .554 in 201 PAs '21 (Man O Man Cora really stuck with this all year?!) .693 in 170 PAs '22 (Another full season) .609 in 161 PAs '23 (Started 31 games v LH'd SP'er.) If Ref didn't suck on D, platooning RF might be the better choice.)
  21. The only reason Ref is on the team is to play vs LHPs. I suppose he could play RF a few games, while Dugo gets one of his dozen scheduled days off. He could DH, when Yoshida gets his dozen, and we can watch Duran flail against LHPs. all year. MVP points out that Ref's .828 OPS vs L's, last year was not great. While true, it was still way better than most returning Sox players who play corner OF, and it's the differential that counts. .875 McGuire (27 PAs reverse split) .828 Refsnyder (.428 OBP!!!!!) .824 Devers .817 Casas .787 Urias .772 Reyes .749 Duran (Note to notin: .327 OBP and ZERO SBs in his 49 PAs vs LHPs.) .746 Yoshida (to DH) .645 Rafaela .624 Story .609 Dugo (Maybe Ref should platoon in RF.) .501 Wong .400 Abreu (10 PAs) .393 EValdez (16 PAs) I'm not "dying on a hill," but Ref needs to start every single game vs a LH'd SP'er, or he's near useless. (He's barely worth his roster slot, as it is.)
  22. That's what they said about Dugo... and he never did.
  23. The team announced his remaining salary will not be paid by public funds, but rather by unrestricted alumni contributions and and the athletic department via cuts made to the athletic department budget.
  24. I hope the Yanks get him.
