  1. I think we have 5 competitive SP's--Crochet, Giolito, Early, Bello, and Harrison--but Crochet is the only one who deserves "very good." Crochet, Giolito and Bello all have ERA's over 4 this month. Pitching has been the Sox strong suit all season long and especially in those 6, 7, and 10 game winning streaks. The Sox lineup, meanwhile, lacks a single big hitter, so needs all 9 slots to be competitive. Tonight 7th and 9th each drove in 2 runs, both with solid doubles.
  2. There's a ton of people on talksox, especially moonslav,, who say teams are very unpredictable. Rationally, I know he's right, but my gut says the Sox will beat out the Tigers by a couple of games.
  3. Abreu's OPS vs lefties is 100 points higher than Duran's. Plus he's a better outfielder. However, he was out twice this season with injuries and will play in 116 games to Duran's 155. Duran's WAR is 4.6 to Abreu's 3.3 mostly because of more games played. Abreu is 3 years younger. I agree it's a coin flip and believe one of them will be traded this offseason.
  4. 43,000 at the game tonight. Crochet tomorrow against Scherzer. Sox 7th and 9th hitters drove in all 4 runs tonight. Jays limited to 3 hits tonight, all off of Giolito.
  5. Nobody like Yogi. A little guy who played huge, including catching Don Larsen's perfect game in a World Series.
  6. I object to your present tense because it simply isn't always true and certainly not lately. Also, if memory serves, Anthony was especially good at being patient and nailing mistakes. So was the splendid splinter. Yogi, on the other hand, would swing at almost anything, but he usually could hit it. Tonight Duran has assumed the "silly at the plate" role.
  7. Maybe. Meanwhile, Chapman in for the 9th with a 4-1 lead and an always dangerous Jays lineup.
  8. And would have lasted longer but for the 2 errors by Story and one rotten call by the ump,. Another K for Duran. He has 3 and the rest of the team 6.
  9. Bullpen is just outstanding because the Jays can definitely score runs.
  10. You can't help it, can you? The kid is playing super and even hitting but you're hoping he'll
  11. Or maybe we could give Bregman a break and note that tonight the bottom 6 in the lineup have 8 of the 9 hit and all 4 rbi's and all 4 runs scored.
  12. Another guy Cora should bench and Breslow should DFA. Right?
  13. You're so right. Cora should bench him and then Breslow should DFA him Whaddaya think?
  14. Duran has seen 6 pitches and had 2 K's. He looks at strikes and swings at pitches outside the zone. First time it was fast balls, this time all splitters.
  15. Agree completely. It's why Cora has him 4th. And to think I was one of his biggest naysayers even though he had shown he could hit before this season. And how about playing RF? Chutzpah, pure and simple.
  16. Giolito has a pretty good array of pitches. He needs to throw more strikes even though he did get robbed on that last at bat.
  17. In 2 innings the Sox have made way better contact than I expected. A win tonight would be gigantic.
  18. Agree--he should have caught it. On the other hand, no harm, no error--and Lowe drives in the first run!
