  1. Sure have. But he's still given up 4 ER and the lineup remains scoreless.
  2. .748 in Sep. Plus he's the backup catcher, for crying out loud.
  3. For most of this season that $40M looked sensible. But we now know that Anthony was our big gun at the plate.
  4. Completely disagree with bums. This team has some real talent but too many key injuries.
  5. Bregman ain't hitting, but it sure is fun watching him play 3b.
  6. They already have 3 hits. The problem is really RISP disease. Last night they for sure couldn't hit squat.
  7. Time for Bregman to celebrate--he didn't K. In fact, it was a jim dandy pop up to 1b. And this guy wants a 5 year contract after this year?
  8. Why should he be? His team can't score runs. His catcher is back to interfering. Hamilton made 2 errors last night. Bregman is in a massive slump at the time Anthony and Abreu are on the IL. After losing 4-1 to the Yankees last night, the Sox are down 3-0 in the 3d. In no way do these Sox look look they are headed for the playoffs--despite their 81-67 record.
  9. Agree on all. Against lefty Fried today, 9 righty bats including Sogard-- Gonzalez 1b Bregman 3b Story SS Ref LF Narvaez DH Eaton RF Sogard 2b Wong C Rafaela CF With Narvaez hitting again, it makes sense to have him DH. I like Eaton in RF because of that great throw yesterday. Don't know how good he is to 3b. Duran is again sitting against a lefty starter. Bregman did hit that single hard yesterday, one of 2 hits by the Sox.
  10. Here are the at bats and OPS's for September-- Bregman 42 AB's, .568 OPS Duran 39 and .570 Story 39 and .971 Lowe 31 and .590 Rafaela 30 and .406 Gonzalez 28 and 1.065 Eaton 25 and .967 Narvaez 24 and .991 Yoshida 24 and .613 Refsnyder 21 and 1.010 To be honest, I think the biggest problem is with lefty bats, especially with Anthony and Abreu on the IL and Duran in a slump.
  11. Yes, Story stunk in April and May, but his OPS's in June, July, August, and Sep have all been over .800. Plus he leads all MLB SS's in assists and PO's. I do think Casas is a good hitter, but I also think he's soft on defense and not much good at keeping in shape. Completely disagree that the Casas injury was significant because the Sox have flourished without him. Heck, his WAR for 28 games was -0.9!!!!! Yes, we could probably use his lefty bat now, but we could use Devers as the DH even more. The real problem is that Abreu and especially Anthony are on the IL. Casas was nowhere near as valuable. And I will be happy to eat those words if Casas actually has a good season next year.
  12. 2018 lineup was just as good if not better. Right now the Sox lineup is as suspect as I can remember with Anthony and Abreu out, Devers gone, and Bregman and Duran both in September slumps. On the other hand, check out these September OPS's: Gonzalez 1.055; Ref 1.010, Narvaez .991, Story .971, Eaton (yes, Easton) .977, Wong .748,
  13. Duran, despite his weakness against lefty pitchers, leads the Sox in total bases and is 2d in runs scored and rbi's. He and Story have been the best accumulators in the lineup. Disagree Casas was one of our best hitters. First, he stunk this season. Second, you gotta play the games to count and he has played in 113, 51, and 29 games in 2023-25. If you think I'm wrong, look at what a healthy Story has done for the Sox this season. Agree on Devers and Abreu but especially on Anthony. With Anthony and without Devers, the Sox flourished until Anthony's last game Sep 2. I say that because the Sox still did well without Devers and Abreu and with Bregman in a slump as long as Anthony was in the lineup. Many thanks for your hopeful commentary throughout this season.
  14. Exactly my thought. We can safely ignore his slump plus missing 6 weeks because, guess what? He's great talking to the young players. So 10 years and $500M sure makes sense to me.
  15. Sox had a 6 game and then a 10 game winning streak mostly because of the pitching. and just 3 weeks ago they took 7/8 road games with good pitching. But the hitting was better in all those streaks than is now Anthony left a giant hole--especially with Bregman in a slump.
  16. I don't blame you one bit. The one big hit in the game was Judge's dinger. It's also the only ER. Given all the fire power in the Yankees lineup, Giolito has done pretty well. Now he's out with 2 down and a man on 1st in the 6th. Most games, the pitching with the better K/BB ratio wins. Tonight Giolito's is 6/1 and Gil's is 3/3. Oh, and the Sox have no hits. In his last start Gio went 6 and gave up 1 ER to the Jays.
  17. Some hard hit balls for outs like Duran's liner to LF with men on 2d and 3d. Still, no hits after 5 innings. Giolito has given up 1 ER in 5 innings.
  18. The Yankees lineup is chock full of OPS's. 6 over .800, one of which is 1.120 and another is .937--and the bottom three are .714, .664, and .709. Sox are hitless after 3 and have an error and an unearned run. So far an absolutely miserable showing. What was that, the 84th time this season that Narvarez has interfered with the batter?
  19. Gil is serving up hittable pitches. Sox can't hit them squarely.
  20. He did. A nice, fat juicy one right down the middle to Judge.
