  1. Who wrote them off? Not me. I said they stink because they do, but I certainly hope they don't stay that way.
  2. Stink is in the present tense, so it applies. I sure as heck hope the sample size is small, but we don't know that.
  3. That's tomorrow at 11:05 am isn't it? I'll tell you what: I wouldn't bet the farm on 7 innings from Wright.
  4. Who cares if Sale is the greatest thing since sliced bread? This thread is about the rotation, and everybody except Sale stinks. The great Pomeranz now has an ERA of 5.23, which is about the same as ERod but way better than Porcello at 7.56 and Wright at 13.50.
  5. Great game even though Pomeranz still sucks with an ERA of 5.23. But the hitter hit and brought in 7 runs, and the bullpen was great again. They went 4.2 innings giving up nothing, whereas Pomeranz went 4.1 giving up 5. Maybe we need to recalibrate how we rate a start. Maybe from now on for the Sox a "quality start" is "gets thru 5 innings without giving up 8 or more runs." That way we can now say POmeranz came oh so close--he was just 2 little outs from another quality start today.
  6. I was too kind toward Pomeranz. I did predict he wouldn't get to the 6th innings, but that was easy. What I couldn't see was two dingers to put the Rays up 5-4 after the Sox tied it. I'm not so sure any more that he's a wuss. He did throw his glove in the dugout again after giving up the dinger and the single in the 5th. He's just lousy. His previous start was lucky. This gets the Sox down to just one reliable starter. Even our Cy Young winner can't be counted on, not when he gave up 4 dingers and 8 runs in 4.1 innings, and Wright was worse. And ERod is still the same 'ol ERod.
  7. Way better than I expected. Always good to see a pitcher bounce back with six straight outs.
  8. I thought he was a wuss before the game and will be delighted when and if he shows some heart. As for Bogaerts, I like him a lot, but that was still a dumb swing on a 2-0 count.
  9. Nice clean inning for Pomeranz and it only took 17 pitches. Perfect for him because he's at 52 pitches after 2 innings and is a good bet to get to 100 pitches in 5 innings and won't have to go to the much dreaded 6th inning.
  10. Pomeranz is a complete wuss. I thought he was going to break into tears in the first inning when he couldn't get the strikes he wanted. And Bogaerts needs to get smart. He swung on ball three that was well inside with an umpire who has been more than happy to call balls. His stupidity cost a really good rally.
  11. Right now it sure looks as though we have a one man lineup, Moreland, and a one man rotation, Sale. Exaggeration? Heck, yes. But this lineup is starting to piss me off.
  12. The game box score says the gametime temp was 69 degrees, but he acted as though it was sub zero.
  13. Barnes gets a huge break because he was really trying to walk the bases full when he accidentally thru a strike of all things and got the ever popular GIDP.
  14. I'll tell you what I love about Sale and no other pitcher on this team. He's over 90 pitches and it's 1-1 in the 7th and leadoff hitter is fouling off pitches like there's no tomorrow. I think he gets to 102 pitches to get him out, then gets the other two out. All other pitchers on this team in the same circumstances--actually, damn few of them even get to the 7th inning and only Sale has gotten thru the 7th--would have given in to that first batter.
  15. Six outs for the win. Is our bullpen up to it?
  16. Looky, looky, bases loaded in the 7th with one out. Weak grounder by Leon, thank goodness, drives in the go ahead run.
  17. Jackie and his GM Branch Rickey both served in the US Army--one during WW I and the other during WW II, and both showed a lot of guts. Today we're seeing our stalwart Sale showing some guts, but not those wimps in the lineup. 1 run in 6 innings???
  18. Finally a fact or two inserted inserted into this unreal thread. Right now the rotation stinks, its one saving grace that its early in the season and one can hope for a recovery. Meanwhile, Wright's knuckler isn't, porcello's fastball is a gopher ball, ERod is still ERod, $30M/year Price is a world class flameout, and Pomeranz, shockinlgly, is leading the Masters after 4 holes--lots of luck with that. Sales alone seems able to start and finish a game, finish being defined as getting to the 7th inning. Now we see the wisdom of hanging onto Holt, of whom I am no fan, but right now we need about 10 guys in the bullpen to make up for our weak starters. So the question is, can he also catch so we can send Leon or Vazquez down for another arm?
  19. Why fix the hitting when the starting pitching is so bad? By themselves Porcello and Wright have made wins impossible. We have exactly one reliable starter at this point.
  20. If it's possible to skip a start or two by Wright, that might make sense.
  21. After Pomeranz's win last night, you gotta like the Sox chances tonight. If at all possible the field crew needs to make the infield even faster for tonight, plus maybe put up a sign nearby saying "danger, fast infield, use caution."
  22. Way back on page 1 or so I wrote we didn't have much chance last night and based it on my assumption that Pomeranz is a putz and the Orioles starter has good stuff. A throwaway game, I said. I also told my boss the same thing. We both live in N.Virginia and both get the Orioles games on a local channel. So he watched and then confronted me this morning for not knowing much about the Sox. Serves me right. \ Reading Pomeranz's postgame comments, I gather he was almost as surprised as I was.

  24. Great, great start by Pomeranz. I had this game as a throwaway and could not be happier to be wrong. Special delight in the 2 Orioles errors. After that double, the bull pen has also looked sharp. 3 runs and 3 Ks vs. Bundy.
  25. I could be wrong because in baseball almost anything could happen, but I do see this game as a throwaway. Bundy looks to be tough, and Pomeranz to be very un-tough.
