  1. Right now I'm anti-Wright like a lot of others are. But I think moonslav's cautionary note is valid. It is indeed possible that the good Wright--the right Wright--could return. What would bug me is if the Sox let him go for a song and somebody else's pitching coach straightens him out or he does it himself.
  2. the difference between chris sale and all other sox pitchers is that chris sees a 0-2 count as an opportunity to get the batter out. all our other pitchers consider anything other than a borderline wild pitch (on an 0-2 count) to be very, very risky. heck, most of them won't throw another strike until at least a 2-2 count.
  3. you got nothing on me. i whine incessantly.
  4. nice steal of 2b, hwoever.
  5. when betts hurts himself getting back to 1b like that, he reconfirms how weak our baseball sense is on the basepaths. we anticipate nothing and everything is a surprise out there.
  6. hard to second guess a firstbaseman when he catches a ball on the bounce.
  7. orioles announcers have said repeatedly this game is all about the home plate umpire and have ignored the fact that the orioles hitting and fielding have been weak, whereas the orioles pitching has been pretty good, giving up 2 earned runs in 6 innings.
  8. orioles feed just showed barnes throwing behind machado. again. and again.
  9. vazquez with the hot bat--not.
  10. this has to be one of the worst baserunning teams in mlb history.
  11. orioles announcers are both back on their hobby horse complaining about the earlier call throwing gausman out.
  12. has anyone noticed either pitcher--pomeranz with 78 pitches and bleier with 46 pitches, come anywhere near hitting a batter?
  13. was that the world renowned but little seen changeup by pomeranz???
  14. wow. 4 runs on 2 hits by theSox.
  15. Pomeranz continues to show a lot of grit. not so our lineup.
  16. ain't it? vazquez with his over .400 avg hitting a soft, fieldable, double play ball right back to the pitcher with 2 men on and 1 out.
  17. You put it better than I did. Plus I love the fact that showalter went ape, as did the orioles announcers. i might add that the evidence that it was accidental is entirely circumstantial. the facts are that the orioles have now physically hit two boston batters since machado made the hard slide into pedroia, who missed some games. the fact is that our pitcher, while not known for his great control, has made over 60 pitches without coming anywhere near hitting an orioles player.
  18. i'm sorry, but that pitch was nowhere near the strike zone. I agree it could have been accidental, but I don't see how the umpire could do anything else given the phone session today and all the commentary.
  19. any reports on the injury to hernandez?
  20. damn. Pedroia, beni, and ramirez all hit the ball hard, but nothing dropped in.
  21. 4th or 5th starter--completely agree. On that basis he is likable.
  22. i'm pretty sure pomeranz is going with just 2 pitches tonight--the knuckle curve and the 90 mph fast ball. but he finally got thru the inning scoreless on 34 pitches. I don't like Pomeranz and regularly gripe about his pitching, but I thought that was a pretty gritty inning by him. bad luck on the fluky double, followed by another bonehead error by hernandez, follow by the heart of the very good orioles lineup. pomeranz k'd machado and schoop.
  23. i'm sure everyone else has noticed the same thing i do--that with a man on second the catcher if forced to send a sequence of signals vs. just one to tell the pitcher what to throw. that passed ball seems to be the result of an almost inevitable miscommunication.
