Great shot, too brief, of the frozen Fenway crowd still sticking around. For top dollar, yet. With some really bad sightlines down the right side. Man this ump is giving Toronto some low strikes.

Just maybe the best golf tournament in the world because it stars--August National, a course created by Bobby Jones. Me, I'll watch both. Sox on the desktop screen, Masters on the boob tube.

Agree on today, not on the season. The Sox earned those 8 losses in the first 11 games. The rotation stank, except that one start by--wait for it--Christ Sale. Thus the absolute best-pitched game in now 12 games this season was the only game in which the rotation did not participate. That, sir, is not bad luck, but stunningly poor pitching by some very well paid athletes.

Exactly right. I think that got him at $20M/year, which turned out to be kind of a bargain, shenanigans and all.

True. But today was kind of weird. Sale was fine the first two innings, then sort of came apart after a barrage of singles and 2 runs in the 3d and 3 runs in the 4th. Then out of the game after 76 pitches. So in comes Thornburg, Hamlet-like: "the time is out of joint; o cursed spite that ever i was born to set it right!" Maybe something is rotten in the state of Denmark. If not rotten, then at least strange. The bullpen, our presumed weak spot, has almost been a pillar of strength and certainly was Sunday with absolutely no starters allowed into the game. Instead, the rotation sucks, the hitting is uninspired, and even the fielding is not quite right--to say nothing of baserunning.

Sale pulled after 76 pitches--not many--7 hits (all singles), no walks, 3 K's, and 5 runs. Oh, and 54 strikes--about 70% strikes.

Pedey's in a groove--weak grounders right to the SS.

Here's a talksox observation. Sunday was a great win and the shortest game thread this season. Today the Sox are getting stomped, it's only the 4th inning, and we are already on page 9 (Sunday's game thread was 6 pages and postmortems took it to 7). In other words, talksox denizens prize griping over hosannahs.

First Vazquez is out by a mile stealing 2b, now he drops a pitch and the runner advances.

Now that I believe, that big contracts are the kiss of death, but I think Sale is too professional for that. I think most big and especially long-term contracts are for what the player has already done, not what he will do.

Meh. Three singles--one of which should have been a GIDP (but Pedey was out of position)--and a sac fly. I am a far cry from giving up on Sale.
