  1. You're right of course. But that foolishness is good for team morale. Plus, if you're in the bullpen, you're bored spitless sitting on your keester.
  2. Last month Alcala gave up 2 ER in 10.2 IP. Nevertheless, watching him pitch for the Sox is not for the weak at heart.
  3. Target. These days way too many "news sources/commentators" with way too little to write about. Sports commentators are like what Swift once described lawyers to be--"taught from an early age to say white is black or black is white depending on how they are paid."
  4. While I believe morale is good, I don't think that's why a new 1b was not sought. Campbell has been practicin' and practicin' at Worcester, his hitting is getting better, he has an 8 year contract with the Sox, and the Sox are knee deep in good hitting/fielding outfielders. As far as I'm concerned, Breslow "fixed" the Sox hitting by signing Bregman, who is also a good third baseman. Of course, as we are seeing with the Giants, one guy can't really fix a lineup. So the improvements in Story and Rafaela have been humoungously useful. The addition of Anthony has been even more so. 2024 Duran seems to be sneaking back onto the stage. Abreu is still a good against righties. Gonzalez at 2b/1b solid, mostly against lefties. Losing Devers as the DH was a big loss even though, in the end, a necessary one. He was almost as good a DH as JDM in his prime when he lit up the 2018 Sox lineup. But all the other Sox hitters this year have been so good he really hasn't been missed that much even though he was better than Yoshida/Ref.
  5. Good stuff on the bullpen who have been unfairly maligned now and then (including by me).
  6. That makes all kind of sense. Thanks.
  7. Right on both counts. I might add that Alcala routinely struggles in tough situations.
  8. Agree. Plus let's not forget Wong is scorching hot right now--3/7 in his last two games.
  9. How is that possible with today's technology?
  10. Meh. It was the 7th inning, not the 9th. Plus I like to think Duran made a great play and you want to take it away from him.
  11. Looks like Whitlock is in good company--almost the same as Crochet and Chapman. Do you simply disregard ERA's? That's what those three have in common--good ERA's.
  12. With 2 men out, the runner is going when the ball is struck. The throw had to be perfect. As for Toro, the grounder was to his left, which made going to 1b was the easy out with a 3 run lead. It also meant a GIDP was unlikely if he goes to 2b first.
  13. You are so wrong. He has given up 1 ER in his last 13 appearances, including today.
  14. Doesn't count. Same goes for Bregman's 2 K's this game against a lefty starter.
  15. Two excellent defensive plays. First was Story grabbing that awful throw from Toro, and second was the terrific thrown by Duran to nail the guy coming home. He also had to charge the single.
  16. You nailed him. $21M was/is insane. Giolito was a big mistake too, but at least he's pretty decent this year.
  17. FWIW, this Sox pitching staff is the best since 2018 and has the same ERA as 2018 and is ranked the same, 8th in MLB.
  18. Reading this game thread, one would conclude the Sox were down, 6-3 instead of up 6-3.
