  1. Cocky Altuve cut down in his prime!
  2. Greinke maybe ain't so great after all. Love the singles. Love the BB. Even happy with Verdugo's hard hit ground out.
  3. Oh, that's nice. A BB driving home a Sox run. Enrique, he of the eagle eye.
  4. Three straight singles better than a lucky dinger any day of the week and twice on Sundays!
  5. OK, I see now this game is going to really piss me off. ERod, that cheap dinger notwithstanding, is pitching as well as I can remember. The lineup, however, looks like they all need their mommies because Greinke's being mean to them.
  6. This is getting so old. Batter after batter just helpless.
  7. Who is that masked man pretending to be ERod? A lot of pitches, but a very impressive first inning. Hats off.
  8. Porcello stays healthy, has a pretty sizable repertoire--fast ball, curve, slider, changeup, and probably a cut fastball--but none of them is all that effective. He has a pretty lousy Salary/WAR ratio. In 12 seasons--not including this one-- he has accumulated a WAR of 20.1 and has been paid $127M. That's a ratio of $6M per 1 WAR. The Sox paid him $95M for a cumulative war of 9.3, so that's a ratio of about $10M per 1 WAR. As for FIP, his last complete season, 2019, it was 4.76. 2020 is irrelevant except that he was paid $10M for a WAR of .2.
  9. No question the defense is a negative factor, very slightly offset by Renfroe's arm. The infield does not inspire confidence, and too often the opposing outfield looks quicker and more comfortable in Fenway than our own guys do.
  10. Nice 3d out, Hernandez and Gonzalez.
  11. Tough break(s) for Eovaldi. Horrible 3d inning, but pitched well thereafter and should have been rewarded with the third out in the 6th.
  12. He's not. I missed Bogie's home run. Also, it's just possible Eovaldi is throwing a tad batter the past two innings even though the Astros had the bases loaded in the 4th. So, yes, I probably need to fall off the stealing signals hobby horse. Again.
  13. I admit it's crazy to say so. But look at those Astros at bats. No check swings. And, when they swing, it's solid contact every time even though Eovaldi actually mixed up his pitches. My prediction is that, now that the Astros have a somewhat comfortable lead and Odorizzi is mowing down the Sox, the Astros will magically stop hitting.
  14. Game looks like it's over, which is fine with me, what with two game threads, which are stupid. I once again have the feeling that the Astros batters know what's coming.
  15. Hot. Hot-hot. Hot-hot-hot. Hot-hot-hot-hot.
  16. You watched the game, as did I. I think Valdez just has our number. Tonight he had 8 K's, no BB's, and gave up 5 singles and 1 run. Six days ago he also went 7 innings, also gave up 1 run, also gave up just 5 singles, but in that game had 10 K's and 2 BB's.
  17. Perfect 3 for 3 for Dalbec of course. This time Valdez only got 8 K's, but Bobby was good for 3 of them.
  18. I say again--assume Perez has a good start as Pivetta did 6 days ago. The Sox still lose, 2-1. Valdez is hard to beat.
  19. Valdez could go 7 again. Arroyo and Devers looked like it was their first AB, not their third.
  20. Arroyo got that fat fastball down the middle and did nothing with it. So the K on the curve was inevitable.
  21. Good K pitch by Valdez. No dishonor for Dalbec.
  22. Andriese done good--3 innings, 1 run.
