  1. I've noticed lately that ERod is trying to pull those outside pitches.
  2. So he was penalized for pitching within the rules. Gotta give a guy credit for that. Plus tonight he showed some heart. I say that having been about as anti-Rodriguez as anyone can be. Top of the order redeeming things with their bats.
  3. Watching ERod tonight, I'm semi-convinced he never doctored the ball because his pitches look about the same to me.
  4. Yarborough killing Sox with his changeup--well, the righties, anyway.
  5. Replay on that 3d out still looks great!
  6. Danny Santana stinks in the field too, but Renfroe to the rescue! Great play for the 3d out. Renfroe caught it barehanded, great throw to the relay man, Bogaerts, whose throw beat Diaz by a mile.
  7. First slider by ERod. Outside.
  8. Another outside changeup swung on and missed by Dalbec. Smart pitching. Kind of dumb hitting even though Santana on deck is a pretty sure out.
  9. WEEI guys say slow pitching is Rays doctrine, and it sure worked on that 2d strike vs. Dalbec. He chased a changeup way, way outside.
  10. We need a public defender for Santana, someone who can explain the logic of not only playing him but having him lead off.
  11. Two nice grabs by the Rays on foul pops. What a contrast with the moribund Sox.
  12. Meanwhile the Rays look like, you know, a professional baseball team despite their losing streak. Isn't it amazing how the Rays can lose 6 in a row and the Red Sox look like the team in a slump?
  13. Sabotage!! I think this was discussed in the last gamethread. ERod has enough problems with his pitching, so a porous, inept infield makes it all that much worse. My suspicion is that Devers error was the direct result of his horrible K with 2 on in the top of the inning. His head wasn't in the game, which is too often the case. Then there was Santana leading off and getting K'd on 3 pitches. Looks like the Sox did not come to play.
  14. Nicely sardonic--"better luck tomorrow, guys."
  15. WEEI guys talking a lot about the Commish's dictum on foreign substances on the ball. Cora told them the pitchers know it's a big deal.
  16. Come on, already. I was being facetious.
  17. Theoretically, this week begins a whole new era in MLB. The Jays still can't play home game because Canada won't let American teams cross the border, not even by air. That's nothing, however, to the degree from Rob Augustus Caesar Manfred's that all MLB pitchers will stay clean and not besmirch the baseballs they throw.
  18. I had no idea you were this high on Santana. I agree he's versatile in the field and good on the bases, but his hitting leaves something to be desired.
  19. Verdugo and Devers struggling against this particular lefty.
  20. Amazing start to the game, what with Eovaldi getting thru the 1st on 6 pitches and Hernandez's 2 run dinger in the 2d. Enrique a little slow getting that single/double to CF, however.
  21. It turns out my theory was a little early. Enforcement won't begin until Monday, 2 days from now. So it is entirely possible the dictum will be enforced, which would wipe out my theory. As for the pitchers, I agree with bellhorn they will have no choice but to comply/adjust.
  22. Sox have hit a lot of hard shots today for outs.
