    Bad news is the Phillies scored 8 in the 8th. Good news is it wasn't a crooked number. Wild applause for our bullpen who kept things symmetrical.

    He does indeed. Different style, but the same dedication to giving the hitters what they need. But we have to face the fact that Taylor and Workman served up the most meatballs today.

    That's old news. None of those three is competing with Duran for a slot on the big club. Duran is an outfielder and the Sox outfield is looking pretty good right now, offensively and defensively. The Sox #9 hitter, Dalbec, is looking better lately, plus he plays 1b, plus he hit well in MLB last year. Without Duran playing a single game of the 89 the Sox have played so far, they have compiled the best record in the AL and the 2d best in MLB. Just what is Duran supposed to fix?

    With Arroyo at 2b, Hernandez is hands down the Sox best centerfielder. He, Verdugo, and Renfroe have WAR's of 2.3, 1.6, and 1.4. There is no compelling need for Duran at this time: he will do better to play every day in Worcester.

    Bryce Harper, the great one. An honor and a delight to watch him play, a true five tool player, by which I mean his salary is more than 5 X $5M.

    WEEI guys commented Richards was relying on his fastball and slider. But in this inning we have seen fastball, slider, knuckle curve, and changeup.

    Pay back for Ricahrds, who got screwed on at least one good pitcher earlier.

    No one passed the word to Arroyo that tonight's the night to be sloppy in the field. Phillies also didn't get the word.

    On a previous game thread I commented that the Sox were less error prone recently. Tonight is a regression to their norm. Richards and Hernandez each charged, but Verdugo had one that the scorers didn't call.

    Great 3 run dinger by JDM! So now Richards had a 2 run lead, which he is likely to give up. So the question is, how patient will Cora be?

    Phillies are getting 1 hit per out and 3 runs per 4 hits with no dingers.

    WEEI guys said before the game that the Phillies hitters are hot, and they sure look that way. Sox outfield keep bobbling the ball, giving up extra bases.

    Here we go again. Two straight hits, and a bobble by a Sox outfielder.

    2-1 after 1. Hard to predict how these 2 starters will do even though Richards pitched very well after the 2 leadoff double (one of which Verdugo converted to a triple). WEEI guys talked at length about Richards "reinventing" himself. They also think Harper was a great addition to the Phillies regardless of salary and that DD is the perfect GM, one of the greats.

    3 good points: great in April, rest might help (he's pitched a lot of innings), trust Cora/Bloom. That said, Andriese currently is sent to the mound with an invisible white flag of surrender sewn onto his uniform because the game is over whether the Sox are ahead or behind. ​His WAR of -.7 is lower than those of guys who are no longer on the big club--Weber, Brewer, Brice.

    Completely agree. That said, the replays show him going back to 1b and camping there, so I'm guessing the 1b coach completely agreed or maybe even told him to tag up.

    True. Rafi is our best hitter and has driven in a zillion runs. But this is a game thread and it's hard not to get pissed when Devers, Renfroe, and Arroyo all screw the pooch with Bogie on 2b and no one out (then 1 out, then 2 outs). All Rafi had to do was single or even move the runner to 3b.

    Triple, double, then Devers, Renfroe, and Arroyo choke, choke, choke.

    Renfroe too. These guys look like the kid sister in the movie A League of Their Own.
