  1. The Orioles scored 10 runs and still lost. Thunder strikes again.
  2. Anyone who thinks Thunder's streak is hokum should have stopped watching this game before the 4th inning started. We are now watching a game that defies both common and uncommon sense. The above applies even if the Orioles win tonight.
  3. Criswell gets the K with the bases loaded. A reprieve, albeit a temporary one.
  4. Tie game, thanks to the absolutely abysmal pitching of Criswell.
  5. Well, hang onto your seat because it's going to be a bumpy night.
  6. A fair point. Tricky situation. But the MRI and no doubt medical opinion seem to say it's OK to swing hard and test the damaged/recovered muscles.
  7. This is all news to me, which means I wasn't keeping very good track of the Sale deal. I do remember writing on talksox I thought Chris Sale was the most professional pitcher I'd ever seen. Very focused, so much so he rarely shook off his catcher. Execution for him was everything, and that included getting into good defensive position and playing good defense. He was the polar opposite of ERod. Anyway, great discussion of Sale's motives, contract, etc. To me the story of the Sale deal with the Braves is that they saw his potential and the Sox so-called brain trust did not. And that leads me to the belief that JH is not completely wrong when he distrusts his brain trusts ability to invest wisely in good arms.
  8. Devers' OPS for August is .709, so it's probably a good bet the shoulder is bothering him. In July his OPS was 1.132, in June 1.015, and in May .919.
  9. Sox are 63-57 and trending downward because the pitching stinks. It does not help that the Sox are in the toughest division in MLB and right now are playing the Orioles, who own them.
  10. Second are the Giants with 3.
  11. I like the current system for starting game threads and see nothing wrong with short ones--like the one for last night's loss at Camden Yards. What's kind of unique to Talksox is the disinclination to bring up new topics. In fact, sometimes they are even frowned upon. Thus the very long threads on a realistic assessment of the Sox for the season. In fact, we currently on our 3d for this season.
  12. All the Orioles needed were the first 2 runs. They own our Sox this season.
  13. I'll take the Sox hitting with the fielding, and you can stuff your "little league baseball" comment where . . . never mind.
  14. Gloom and doom. Your favorite theme. The Sox hitting is pretty good, and the pitching not so good. Those two parameters keep things interesting. But they do not mean the game is over after 1.5 innings because the Sox are down, 1-0.
  15. What was the deal with the 503? It seemed to end just before the game started.
  16. Great play at home, but dumb play by the Texas runner on 3b.
  17. The Braves had no problem reading what you call the "false signs" of 2023.
  18. Amazing game and win for the Sox. An absolutely frightening 6th inning.
  19. Stunning stat. Stunning.
  20. Good point about the pitch clock.
  21. Sox killed Urena in Texas, but everyone is killing Crawford since the ASG break.
  22. Attendance last night--a Monday--vs Texas was a surprising and sizable 35,715. I'm guessing it was the cooler weather.
  23. Great win, but weird stats. Sox hitters were walked 9 times and K'd 15 times--and had 9 hits (8 singles, 1 double). Sox pitchers were excellent except for 2 run dinger off of Horn and giving up 4 BB's. They held Texas to 4 hits and 3 ER's in 10 IP. Yes, Ref's hit was big, but let's not forget that Valdez's leadoff double in the 10th was at least as big. It tied the game and put the winning run on 2b. Looks like Devers shoulder (or whatever) could be acting up again, especially against fastballs. On the team stats charts, the Sox offense is still ranked 5th in runs scored and 3d in team OPS. And the team ERA is still mired in 17th.
  24. Kawabunga, Uncle Bob, Bello now has a quality start tonight. And he wasn't half bad his last time out. And thanks to 7 BB's and 3 hits, the Sox have scored 3 gigantic runs. If the Sox win this one, I vote for putting a statue of mvp 78 on Boston Commons.
