  1. Funny how no one on this thread has mentioned that the Sox two worst outfielders, both with negative DWAR's, are playing tonight--Ref and O'Neill.
  2. I just saw Kelsey Jansen lumber by in front of the dugout camera. One man bullpen--although Martin has been looking pretty decent. Another quality start for Houck.
  3. I think Houck has pitched a heckuva game, especially given the home plate ump and the throw by Jansen. However, Jansen also made a great tag for the out and Romy made a heckuva play from behind 2b for a key 3d out.
  4. He absolutely screwed Houck to the wall on those two calls. And there is absolutely nothing Cora can do about it.
  5. Then why oh why do you bother to watch them if they offend your sensibility so much? Indeed. I would go one step further and tell you that the Sox this season are providing impressive evidence that defense is freaking over-rated. And this game is a perfect example. The Sox are not, repeat not, winning because the Astros defense stinks tonight, but because the Sox are hitting the dickens out of the baseball this season.
  6. Janice Joplin is an acquired taste--and certainly not to mine. Not much of a Taylor Swift fan either. Give me Ella or Eydie or Barbra or Patsy.
  7. Meanwhile the semi-perfect Astros just committed their 4th error.
  8. Impossible. I've been reading this game thread and can assure you the Sox are incapable of making even the easiest play. To quote the consensus, the Sox defense isn't even little league quality. Just ask MVP 78.
  9. True. I looked that up before I made my comment. Yet, good as they are, the Astros have committed 3 errors already. The Sox, meanwhile, have now made two excellent defensive plays to the Astros none. They got the runner going home even though he blocked the throw by running inside the 3d base line, and Gonzalez just made a heckuva play from well behind 2d base to get the 3d out.
  10. Welcome, one and all, to the double-standard website--mistakenly called Talksox-- where the Sox are excoriated for playing better defense--so far, anyway--than the Astros.
  11. And what kind of baseball is/are the Astros playing? T-ball?
  12. 3d error by the Astros, which of course should be ignored. Only the Sox are stupid, incompetent, and worse than little leaguers.
  13. Yeah, well you can play the same stupid tune for the Astros.
  14. Hold it. Where was the "little league baseball" comment when Houston made 2 freaking errors? And where was the compliment when Devers and Jansen got that guy going home and along the way blocked Devers throw to home plate? To say this board is sometimes insanely and unfairly judgmental is an understatement.
  15. Stunning call. I thought he was safe because he beat the tag. However, I think his lead foot hit Jansen's knee. All for nought. O'Neill makes a terrible throw (but not an error), and then Jansen's throw is worse and an error which brings in the 2d run. Game tied.
  16. Trouble. Astros first two hitters in the 4th hammered that sinker.
  17. No kidding? Stunningly good claim. That's also the ALCS in which Francona said something like, "we don't need to win 4 games, we just need to win the next game."
  18. Two at bats in a row Kikuchi made Casas look very bad, taking 3d strikes well inside the zone.
  19. Houck's sinker tonight is just nasty--it's got some real movement, down and to the right. I hereby dub it his splitter changeup.
  20. 2-0 is good. So is Houck. But the bullpen isn't.
  21. His situation was different. He arrived in Boston like a whirlwind and was a fan fav--and TSW responded with waving his cap, etc. Then came a slump or two, and Mr Sensitive with perfect hearing as well as eyesight heard some pretty nasty catcalls. It was then and only then he he stopped waving the cap--and stayed that way forever.
  22. Two good innings for Houck so far. Gotta feel a little sympathy for Kikuchi, whose infield has committed 2 errors--thus the one unearned run.
  23. Here's a question for our experts. Duran has a DWAR of +1.9, largely because he is really fast and has finally gotten a handle on taking the best routes to fly balls and line drives. So why in the wide, wide world of sports would everyone--and I mean everyone--on talksox want Duran to play left field instead of centerfield? And please don't mention Rafaela for CF because this year his best position for the team is SS because he has way more range than anyone else and a pretty good arm. It's also clear that Cora wants both players playing in every single game. They've both played in 121, and next most is Devers with 110.
