  1. Yeah I think the Sox have a narrow window to win it all with this great team before the players start going their separate ways.
  2. That's how I have fun with the sport. Either insane optimism or dark pessimism.
  3. The record is 116 wins. 1906 Chicago Cubs: 116-36, winning percentage of .763 2001 Seattle Mariners: 116-46, winning percentage of .716 Can this Red Sox team break either the wins record, the winning percentage record, or both? A .765 winning percentage for a 162 game schedule is 124 games. Our beloved Sox are 14-2 with 146 to go, so they'd have to go 110-36 the rest of the way to break the winning percentage record, and to break the wins record and end up with 117, they'd have to go 103-43.
  4. The difference is that the Sox are going to play .800 or better ball the rest of the year and break records, whereas the other teams are just on hot streaks and will cool down noticeably soon
  5. I'm already bummed that Velazquez and Johnson won't get to prove themselves as starters. Definitely an embarrassment of riches.
  6. You basically need 4 months with 3 wins and 2 months with 4 wins. If he gets a win in each of his next two starts he'll be back on track; April would be a 3 win month with that.
  7. I'm becoming a Lin fan too.
  8. I've always tried to listen and hear what the wife's last name is, but the guards holler with laughter and drown it out.
  9. We win 3-2. You heard it here first folks.
  10. In all fairness, I was saying they look awesome prior to the start of the season. Same team brought back that won 93 games two seasons in a row, but improved with a healthy Price and JD Martinez.
  11. I think this is the most talented Sox team I've seen since 2013, and depending upon how things shake out with regards to the bottom of the rotation and lineup, it could surpass them. Getting Bogaerts and Pomeranz back will help. Getting JBJ hitting will ensure it.
  12. This thread is titled "A Realistic View at 2018". Well, here are the top seasons in team history: 1912: 105-47 1915: 101-50 1946: 104-50 1977: 97-64 1978: 99-64 2004: 98-64 2013: 97-65 I think this season will fit comfortably into the middle of that range Aw, who am I kidding, 106 wins! New record!
  13. I don't know why everyone is getting excited. The Sox are just playing some ho-hum .500 team. I expect another sweep
  14. I don't think it's a question of if he goes on the DL, but whether it's the 30 day or 60 day. Maybe Holt will play well at SS, that's my hope.
  15. ERod is frustrating I know but I'm optimistic he'll settle into a groove after a few starts and give us quality ones from thereon out. That said, I'm not opposed to trying a partial 6 man rotation. Could be a great way to keep everyone fresh. What I call a partial 6 man rotation is that in a stretch without off days, you use 6 starters. When there are off days, you fall back to 5 starters. That means the 6th starter makes occasional starts and is otherwise the long man out of the pen.
  16. ??? I'm worried sick about Xander Bogaerts.
  17. I'm really looking forward to the first series they have with Houston!
  18. My guess is that they’re going to try seeing if keeping JD in the outfield has him more focused and improves his hitting. If that proves true, JBJ will lose out. I actually prefer a DH slot for rotating players rather than a dedicated player for it.
  19. Maybe if he'd stopped being viewed as the backup closer I'd go easier on him. But yeah, maybe my wraiths will put him on the DL when E-Rod comes back ...
  20. I'd like to see Pom traded when his stock is high. He feels like the next Buchholz to me. Keeping Kimbrel is a must.
  21. From what I've seen before, staff handling improves with experience. In other words, get him playing more and that will (probably) improve. Put me down for more Swihart less Leon, but either way make it a healthy competition.
  22. It's actually not about the blown leads; sometimes hitters manage to hit good pitches. Conversely, sometimes pitchers without control are 'effectively wild' and manage to get outs. I didn't watch the extra inning game, but I saw Kelly close out the game the night before. He didn't look like he had any control, and the game ended with a guy swinging at a pitch in the dirt. The batter pretty much got himself out. Maybe I just tune in at the wrong times. That game he took over for Kimbrel last year or the year before is etched into my brain... And I think it's wrath. Wraiths are undead monsters, but that's a different forum
  23. That's the thing with Kelly. He's impressive until ... he's not. Hopefully by May I'll agree to eat those words.
  24. To me, that's the definition of a "4A" player. Too good for the minors, not quite good enough for the majors. Hopefully when the next pitcher comes back from the DL, he takes a trip to Pawtucket. He needs to learn a new pitch to make his fastball effective.
