  1. As someone who's been following the Red Sox since the 80s ... yeah, we really have some people out to a rough start. Vazquez - .196 BA, .492 OPS Lin - .188 BA, .528 OPS JBJ - .173 BA, .528 OPS Swihart - .160 BA, .450 OPS Leon - .154 BA, .445 OPS Anybody hitting below .200 BA or .550 OPS I don't think can stay on the roster of an MLB team for long. By mid-June I think if any of these players are still hitting this poorly they will go.
  2. Good lineup. How do you shuffle it when Pedroia comes back ... assuming he resumes hitting well.
  3. I'd be more patient with Pomeranz if Velazquez wasn't so damn good. Velazquez deserves to start. Probably Johnson too. I know it's a "nice" problem to have 7 starters (8 when Wright returns), but I want the best 5 in the rotation.
  4. Pining for Swihart over here.
  5. Sophomore slump? It will be interesting to see the lineup tonight now that Xander will be back.
  6. Even I admit he’s noticeably improved.
  7. Ultimately I'd like to see Mookie move down a few spots so that he can hit home runs with men on base. Even just swapping Xander and Mookie in what you have above works for me.
  8. I'm predicting a win tonight fellas. This team is too good to lose 3 in a row.
  9. It's mind-boggling to think anyone can return from a bone fracture that quickly.
  10. Any news on how Bogaerts is doing?
  11. Well the wind is a bit out of my sails now. I'm looking forward to getting Bogaerts and Pedroia back. I'd also like to see Swihart at catcher.
  12. I'm starting to think merely questioning whether they can break all-time records is undervaluing this team. It feels like all the other teams are Little Leaguers.
  13. I remember looking at Sandoval's stats when they signed him, going down each year for the past 3 years. Still, I didn't expect him to be completely incapable of playing baseball (!) Scherzer would have been awesome. Sigh...
  14. I would have loved to have seen Velazquez and Johnson developed into starters for the whole year, but we have an embarrassment of riches in the starting pitching department. Keep them all though, because you never know Price might opt out of his contract next year and Pomeranz and ERod are injury-plagued. Steven Wright ... I have to admit I trade him. I'm tempted to package Wright, Leon, and Hembree for some good minor league depth and bring Swihart back to catching.
  15. I did not know that about JBJ and Swihart being Beltre's comp picks. Honestly, I think the biggest shoulda-coulda for the Red Sox was not who they didn't keep, but who they didn't go after. There was this one offseason where Max Scherzer and Nelson Cruz were available, and they didn't even try for either of them.
  16. I think they went with the wrong Adrian. They should have kept Adrian Beltre at 3rd and groomed Rizzo for 1st base. Of course they won the World Series in 2013 so I'm less concerned about moves made prior to that. The Travis Shaw for Thornburg trade, on the other hand, isn't looking so good right about now. But what really prompted the thread was Jed Lowrie's resurgence.
  17. The point of the thread is to say, "Well if the Red Sox had held onto so-and-so, they'd get this production instead"
  18. I saw this with Clemens for many years.
  19. I completely forgot about him! I'll put him over Manual Margot in left field. Thanks! I still need relief pitchers. I don't think any of the ones suggested so far are still playing. And looks like we don't have a catcher at all.
  20. I can't stay up past 10 anymore. I couldn't believe my eyes when I woke up this morning and said, "Hey Siri, what was the Red Sox score" and saw the 10-1. Hoping for the same tomorrow morning.
  21. Still currently playing, and yes ANY player who either was drafted by Boston or played for Boston. I want to compare the stats of the current Sox against those of the ex-Sox, so we can assess the decision to pass on those players. For instance, I really want to compare how Rafael Devers is doing to Travis Shaw, Xander Bogaerts to Jose Iglesias, Mookie Betts to Josh Reddick, Dustin Pedroia to Jed Lowrie, etc.
  22. I was into baseball from a young age, but mostly from a historical perspective, listening to stories about Babe Ruth and Willie Mays and stuff like that. I didn't start following the current Red Sox team until Morgan Magic in 1988 drew me in.
  23. How could I forget Andrew Miller? Well, I was rushing
  24. In this thread I thought it might be fun to track a fictional team composed of all ex-Red-Sox players and see how they do in comparison to the ones who stayed. First I'll need help filling out the roster; you can find the list of eligible players here: http://www.soxprospects.com/exprospects.htm, although it lists players who currently don't have a job like Ryan Hanigan. I'll start: C 1B Anthony Rizzo or Adrian Gonzalez, hmm 2B Jed Lowrie SS Jose Iglesias 3B Travis Shaw LF Yoenis Cespedes RF Josh Reddick CF Jacoby Ellsbury DH Victor Martinez SP1 Jon Lester SP2 Rich Hill SP3 Anibel Sanchez SP4 Wade Miley SP5 RP1 RP2 RP3 RP4 RP5 Closer Andrew Miller
