  1. Given that we may not be able to hold onto Chris Sale or Rick Porcello long term, we need to hold onto the Erod/Wright/Velazquez/Johnson/Beeks squad and for once, keep and develop pitching talent that is cheap. The Price contract may be our Ellsbury contract; by even next year he may end up in the pen.
  2. I only started keeping up with the Sox daily in 1988; Morgan Magic drew me in. For me the biggest disappointment was 2003. I still can't believe Grady left Pedro in for the 8th with Timlin and Williamson ready to go. But there were other big disappointments. For instance, the 2002 Red Sox team was insanely talented, but had this ridiculous 10 game losing streak in August where, to my recollection, they led every game going into the 9th. Then there was the 1995 Red Sox. A very, very good team that completely blew it in the playoffs. I still remember Mo Vaughn and Jose Canseco being a combined what, 1 for 24 in that series? Clemens I think got tossed in the 2nd inning of the first game? Oh, and 2008, we were so close to winning the ALCS!
  3. Wow I didn't know Devers was going to the DL. I heard it here first! I think the Sox have the pieces to trade for Machado, but I don't think they will beat out other team's offers, simply because it's not worth it to them to do so. They're already the top scoring team on a 9 game win streak.
  4. I'm actually less concerned about whether they win or lose, and more concerned with whether David Price shows us anything. Do you remember when they pitched Beckett in the 2008 ALCS even though he wasn't really performing well then? (I still think we could have beat the Rays had we gone with another starter.) I'm worried David Price will be pitching in October, regardless of how well he's actually playing. So if that's the case, I hope he reverts to the form he showed in the starts prior to the last two.
  5. I'm not a fan of trading when a player's value is low. I'd rather Pomeranz, like Pedroia, just tries to come back and help next year. Steven Wright is the guy who I'm hoping gets healthy and goes on another tear.
  6. Ben didn't resign Lester and didn't go after Scherzer who was not generating as much interest as he should have. We should have gotten both of them. And Nelson Cruz. That was a tough offseason for me. But we got Sandoval and Ramirez instead. Ugh.
  7. I waited all offseason for that deal to be finalized. It was stressful.
  8. Boy is he awesome right now! Fingers crossed he keeps it up through the end of the season.
  9. I'm here to give the answer to the question posed by the thread title: Scooter Gennett! Age: 28 Position: 2B Avg: .322 OPS: .876 HR: 14 RBI: 58 What a difference he would make! I have no idea what they have in the system that could be traded for him. But Pedroia isn't coming back.
  10. I'm actually going to have to go with the 2007 Red Sox team. Ellsbury, Pedroia, Lowell, Ortiz, Ramirez, Varitek, Drew, Youkillis as the hitting stars; Daisuke, Beckett, Schilling, Wakefield, Lester, Papelbon, Okajima, and Timlin as the pitching stars. Such an incredible mix of veterans near the end of the road having one last great season (Wakefield, Schilling, Lowell, Ramirez, Timlin), guys in their prime (Ortiz, Youkillis, Beckett), and upcoming stars (Ellsbury, Pedroia, Lester, Papelbon, Okajima). Somehow they were down 3 games to 1 against the Guardians, but I don't think anyone was ever worried. Their final 7 games of 2007: 7-1 (W-Josh Beckett) 12-2 (W-Curt Schilling) 11-2 (W-Daiskuke Matsuzaka) 13-1 (W-Josh Beckett) 2-1 (W-Curt Schilling) 10-5 (W-Daiskuke Matsuzaka) 4-3 (W-Jon Lester)
  11. Today the Sox stand at 64-29 with a .688 record. They have 69 games left. 69 games x .688 = 47.472. Rounding down to 47-22, that projects to 111-51. I agree with Bellhorn, I'll take it.
  12. I wish they'd started Beeks, then had Velazquez come in so he could have gotten the win. I really hope Beeks turns it around. He has nothing left to prove at AAA. I think Velazquez and Johnson are both viable starters. The Sox just need to clear space for one of them and actually dedicate themselves to developing a pitcher.
  13. 121 for the all time most wins!!!
  14. I was quite happy with last night's lineup. Outfield of JDM, Mookie, Beni. DH and 1B of Pearce and Moreland. Keep Jackie as a defensive replacement.
  15. Hey thanks for taking the time to go through my post. I've always figured you need to be at 12 wins by the All Star break to have a 50/50 shot at 20. Let's look at remaining starts, roughly: Team games left: 70 Starts per player left: 14 Assuming a starter gets 4 out of every 5 decisions, that leaves 11 decisions left. Chris Sale: 9-4 record. To get to 20 wins, he needs to go 11-0 in his remaining decisions. That would be a miracle, but he does look unbeatable right now. Rick Porcello & Eduardo Rodriguez: 11-3 record. To get to 20 wins, they need to go 9-2 down the stretch in their remaining decisions. They're actually pitching to that pace. David Price: 9-6 record. I don't see him going 11-0 ...
  16. There are some really interesting second half storylines too. Will Blake Swihart finally prove himself, now that he’s been given a chance to catch more often with Vazquez out? Will Velazquez make a case for staying in the rotation? Will David Price work out of this funk? Is Steven Pearce as good as he seems? Will Chris Sale finally have a strong second half? Will JBJ ever start to really hit? Do Pomeranz or Pedroia come back? If not, who wins the second base job? Do E-Rod and Porcello win 20 games? Does JD win the triple crown? Do the Sox break the 110 win mark? Can they stay ahead of the Yankees and win the division? What a season!
  17. The Red Sox *feel* unstoppable right now. But yeah, a tough lefty is not exactly what the Sox are best against. E-Rod has best be sharp tonight!
  18. As deserving as I think Chris Sale is, Blake Snell is more. What a snub!
  19. I have faith in Velazquez, and Jalen Beeks too. Sox management: please, for once, groom a young starter rather than trade for a veteran.
  20. I hope not. I want Velazquez and Beeks to get starts.
  21. Brian Johnson just went on the 10 day DL. Hopefully Velazquez goes back to starting.
  22. Here's hoping he throws a gem!
  23. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing Cuevas in action.
  24. Gosh I'd still like to see Velazquez start every 5th day and see how he'd do.
