  1. Bryant is 1.785. He was over 2.000 a couple days ago, I think.
  2. Mazzerotti used to be calm, pleasant, and informative when he was a beat writer and on WEEI. Since he changed jobs, he has become a screaming turd. I wonder which persona is/was an act. But it's not like either of the two radio stations has anybody worth listening to.
  3. Castillo played RF with Mookie and JBJ in CF today which is encouraging.
  4. I think that translates to him not being healthy. One wrong twist, check swing, or sprint to first base and he could be in trouble. That's why he isn't hitting lefty ... it hurts.
  5. Victorino's response was foolish. I believe the gist of what they are saying - that he wants less OF competition - but admittedly they are trying to maximize a story. Isn't that what writers and talk shows do? That's why I try not to listen too much.
  6. I rarely read Boston columnists or listen to sports talk radio, but as I was scanning the channels today, they were talking about Victorino saying something like it would be wise if the Sox traded their prospects for Hamels. Apparently Mazzerotti commented that Victorino was inferring trading a young OFer or two so he didn't have any competition. Victorino took offense and wants Maz to come to Florida and make the comments to his face. What's he going to do - smack him around in front of his buddies for stating the somewhat obvious? Sounds like a mature way to continue the discussion, don't you think?
  7. If someone's head is not screwed on right, is he a human bobble head? Just wondering.
  8. Actually Fred, your ass really isn't on the line. There are no consequences to anything anybody predicts unless they have money riding on the outcome. If anybody makes judgements of a person based on predictions the person makes, they need to find a better use of their memory like going on Jeopardy. As far as the bullpen goes, it looks like it's destined to be mediocre at best. but we shall see.
  9. People making judgements on players they have never seen or maybe saw play 2 innings or even a game or two in the spring is frightening. There is nothing else I can say.
  10. Yeah, forget his minor league career and the potential the organization and scouts have seen in him since he was signed. It's all a mirage.
  11. Maybe Betances is having nightmares of Steve Blass. http://www.macrobusiness.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/bad-dream_edited.jpeg
  12. Spring training stats don't matter much since he is going to Pawtucket, but Owens has been poor.
  13. I used to like Eovaldi because he was on my fantasy team and I agree he has shown good stuff at times, but his performance over the course of a season in his career says he isn't consistent and is a #4 starter. Sabathia is cooked. He hasn't been the same pitcher the last 2 years. If all of a sudden he gains 5 MPH vs 3-4 years ago at the age of 34, he'll be an example of a medical miracle. And tell him to put his hat on straight.
  14. I see what you did there.
  15. The Yanks have 2 good SPs who may or may not get through the season. The rest of the starters are just a bunch of guys named Joe Schmo who will be lucky to have an ERA of 4.50-5.00. For some reason they saw fit to trade Shane Greene (who I thought was pretty good) for a platoon shortstop. But as I said in another thread, I applaud your optimism. And maybe my self-perceived realism isn't anything more than foolishness. Time will tell.
  16. Give Farrell a call and debate his evaluation with him.
  17. Anybody who has had back problems can feel great one day and be in trouble the next. It's a crap shoot. Hopefully since Victorino is a great guy, everything works out for him.
  18. Kelly looked good today in a simulated game with Napoli as a simulated hitter ... Nap wasn't allowed to swing but had a few simulated hits - though no solid contact.
  19. Jackson - You are ably trying to pick a few roses from among the thorns. If you didn't, rooting for your team might depress you so I understand. For the amount of money Cashman has at his disposal, he is a less than average GM. Hell, they could afford to pay $100 million in luxury taxes and it wouldn't mean squat. Yes, he had to put up with George's micromanaging and frequent ridiculous demands, but he has made some awful free agent signings resulting in excessive over payments and added useless years to their contracts both before and after George was no longer involved plus the farm system is no better than average. There are probably 10-12 GMs who I would hire before Cashman ever got a look. The Yankees are the face of baseball to the world and the less than attentive fan. Fortunately for fans of other teams, they don't have the best front office, starting 9, or 25 man squad. One thing that really pisses me off is the contribution Steinbrenner made to the lack of affordability for the average fan to attend many games and the price of their cable bill. It's not Curt Flood that led to $150-$300 seats and $10 beers, it's freakin George.
  20. The other day Farrell supposedly said Vasquez was the best defensive catcher in baseball. (Sorry if somebody else already posted that in this thread.)
  21. Jackson, that's a good analysis although I don't share your enthusiasm for Cashman. They really need new blood running scouting and the farm system although it has been on the upswing the last year or two. Here's a Baseball America article from about 6 months ago addressing that. http://www.baseballamerica.com/majors/yankees-minors-get-major-revamp/
  22. One of the best CFers in baseball (Bradley) played RF today so Castillo could play CF. What a joke. Unless Castillo has a total rag arm and can't reach the cutoff man on the fly, he should be in RF since Mookie is going to be in CF anyway.
  23. Some day Orsillo is going to wet his pants when he gets laughing ... or maybe he has already. I like Remy as long as he keeps up his anti-depressive medication but I like the Eck better. Sometimes Remy's personality changes to semi-quiet. The Eck is consistent.
  24. Those are the same guys I sold property on the continent of Atlantis.
  25. How many years is it going to take him growing a normal beard?
