  1. I bet it's Betts
  2. That's a couple of really bad looking lineups
  3. Makes absolutely no sense to include Pedroia on a list of overachievers last season. Because he was very unlucky to suffer a season long injury on opening day, and proceeded to have the lowest OPS of his career other than his first partial season, this makes him an overachiever? Huh? Not in my book.
  4. Thanks. That makes sense. Neither of my options seemed right, now I know why.
  5. Strange move. I think he must have pissed off somebody. If he signs elsewhere, does he get paid from both Red Sox and his new team, or does it void the Red Sox contract?
  6. wow, 1-7 on their homestand that was supposed to get them back in the playoff hunt
  7. yay, a run finally. might can get another here
  8. Can they score with a leadoff triple? I'm not sure they could score with a leadoff homer.
  9. Don't worry, they're doing that when you're not watching too
  10. This team is so frustrating to watch. They raise my blood pressure, and I already have high blood pressure. They may just kill me if I continue to watch.
  11. ok, I won't post lineups if i do another game thread. btw, I got the lineups from yahoo.
  12. Mookie finally back in the lineup, but Drew still inexplicably in there too. First of 3 lefties in a row, backup SS was demoted, I had my hopes up that XB would finally be moved back to SS. I can't comprehend it. For defense? Have they not watched XB at 3b? He's gone from the best hitting SS in the AL, and a below average defender but not that bad, to the worst hitting and worst fielding 3B. Also, it's time to look to next year, and they have Holt, Middlebrooks, and maybe Cecchini capable of 3B, and nobody for SS. So move Xander to SS already!! /end rant
  13. don't know proper game thread posting etiquette, but I figure it doesn't matter at this point, and I wanted to try one John Danks http://chicago.sportsmockery.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/sox-1401466204gk48n.jpg vs Brandon Workman http://www.rantsports.com/mlb/files/2013/07/Brandon-Workman.jpg Adam Eaton CF .265 Gordon Beckham 2B .244 José Abreu 1B .275 Adam Dunn DH .229 Alexei Ramírez SS .283 Conor Gillaspie 3B .310 Dayan Viciedo RF .254 Alejandro De Aza LF .223 Tyler Flowers C .223 Brock Holt RF .311 Dustin Pedroia 2B .280 David Ortiz DH .259 Mike Napoli 1B .264 Jonny Gómes LF .234 Xander Bogaerts 3B .239 David Ross C .172 Stephen Drew SS .136 Mookie Betts CF .211
  14. A lot of places are reporting the Cardinals are interested in Peavy. Craig seems to make sense for both teams, and with him greatly underperforming this year, he'd fit right in with the 2014 Sox.
  15. I liked Bobby V much better as a game manager. He just sucks dealing with people, and the team didn't respect him and didn't seem to give their best effort. I'm convinced now that last season was a fluky team of destiny type of thing, and Farrell sucks and some or all of the front office sucks too. I haven't liked Farrell since he was the pitching coach when Smoltz was obviously tipping his pitches. I knew it from my couch, the rest of baseball probably knew it, but apparently nobody with Boston knew it. Pitching coach is the first to blame there. Then Farrell wasn't any good with Toronto. But then he takes a last place team and wins a World Series in his first year, so I thought I must be wrong about him. Now I think my original instincts were correct. Farrell being Farrell. I was excited to see Betts play, but they give up on him after 5 games. He's not overmatched at all at the plate, and looks better than half the others in the lineup. His defense is shaky, which is all the more reason to play him every day now so he can learn playing OF. I wouldn't give up on a prospect after 2 months in the majors, but agree with the rest of what you said.
  16. So you're trying to disprove my 'small sample size' of stats by using a much smaller sample size of stats. Nice. Whatever. This is a silly topic anyway. I won't comment any further on it. This thread is about XB, who I don't think was affected by his spot in the order, but I think he was affected by moving to 3B.
  17. He's got 481 career AB's at leadoff and hits .264. He hits over .300 not at leadoff. And hasn't he even said he doesn't like hitting leadoff. Sorry, but Pedroia fits your description of someone affected by where they are in the lineup.
  18. If management is gonna be stubborn and insist on playing Drew, then they might as well send Xander to AAA at this point. He's completely f***ed at the plate now.
  19. Pedroia hits noticeably worse at leadoff, so you're saying Pedroia doesn't belong at MLB level? Farrell 'destroying Bogaerts' is an overreaction, but there's still some possible truth in what he was saying. XB's defense has been even worse at third, and his hitting has completely vanished. The obvious thing to do is move him back to SS, and see what happens. Bogaerts at SS, 199 AB .296/.389/.427 Holt at 3B, 94 AB .319/.371/.436 Drew at SS, 63 AB .143/.169/.190 Bogaerts at 3B, 91 AB .143/.186/.264 what he said ^^
  20. AJ vs Arietta is 4-5 with 2 HR and 2 BB, so of course he gets benched. Although Ross is 2-2 with a HR, and Arietta is a much improved pitcher this year, so those stats may not mean anything. Still, I'd prefer AJ tonight. And Peavy sucks as much with Ross catching, so that's not a factor.
  21. Just checked, that last one moved them into 2nd with 76. Texas has 80.
  22. Drew hitting 1.000 over his last 1 AB.
  23. Come on Drew, just put the ball in play. That's not asking much
  24. Xander is the one sitting tonight. Hopefully Mookie good mojo is greater than Drew bad mojo.
  25. Well yeah, his value can only go up, since it's practically zero now. I can't see them getting any worthwhile player in return, and they would still have to pay a good bit of his salary, if anybody else even wants him. Having him on the team is just as much a waste of money as cutting him, so I don't buy that argument for keeping him, if they can't trade him. If they are that concerned about the money, they shouldn't have gave him $10 million. For now, he should only be a late inning defensive sub, and spot starter at most. I didn't really want to turn this into more Drew bashing. That was just a small part of my last post.
