  1. I think I heard that no player has ever accepted a qualifying offer.
  2. Yeah, I think I'm done with Clay as well. If we can fill up the rotation without him, I say dump him. But I think I want to see what else the Sox do first.
  3. Assuming we keep Bogaerts and Betts, and with Papi, Shaw, Pedroia, etc, I'd rather have an outstanding defensive catcher who can hit a little, then an offensive catcher who's skills are at or below average. Vasquez showed some nice defensive skills and ability to throw before he got hurt. Assuming he continues to improve in those areas, I'd take him as my #1 and if Swihart helped me get another part I needed, I'd let him go. I'd still like to keep Hannigan as back-up.
  4. Miley can certainly be the #4 or #5 guy, behind , E-Rod, Porcello, Buchholz/Kelly/Owens...
  5. CV probably would start at AAA and stay there for a bit, right? Until he is deemed ready? Maybe late May - and who knows where Swihart and Hannigan will be at, health-wise.
  6. Catching up on a few days of posts.... I love Harvey and would give quite a bit to get him. His stuff will be better in 2016, and his attitude is that of an ace (along with his stuff, certainly). He would be a GREAT addition. And I agreed with Collins' decision to send him back out, but would have told him, 'One guy gets on, I'm coming out to bring in Familia'... But Collins did a great job all year, keeping a really sub-par, injured team (Eric Campbell was the clean-up hitter for a number of games in June and July) relevant until they got some help. Glad to see him get a 2-year contract, which will take him to retirement. Familia had a great year and I agree his usage was a little strange in the WS. But I give more credit to KC than I do blame to him. KC just doesn't miss the ball or give up non-productive outs. It seems like the ball was ALWAYS in play, and defense was not the Mets forte this year, from the first pitch of the first WS game when Cespedes butchered that ball. I am not a KC fan but they were clearly the better team, 1 - 25.
  7. Wouldn't he be in the same scenario there vis a vis Dombrowski?
  8. I don't think it's an intelligence test. Some guys just aren't wired for an intense, life-or-death type of situation. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I haven't heard of anyone turning down Sox $$$ because 'it's too hard to play there'....
  9. http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/10/29/toronto-blue-jays-general-manager-alex-anthopoulos-leaves Interesting. Nothing like a good scolding the first time you meet your new boss!!
  10. I'm not. The fans show up late to the games and don't really seem to care whether the team wins or loses... Can you imagine the outcry in Boston if the team didn't win, with that payroll... Oh, wait...
  11. Not sure he would thrive in Boston, however, given his social anxiety issues. He could be another A-Gon, needing a mellow San Diego or LA vibe to be successful. In other words, a wussy
  12. Apparently the family requested he not be told until after he pitched. What an awkward spot to put the team in.....
  13. Personally, I've never been a big Price fan, and with that post-season record..... Of course, the Sox have to get back there and he would certainly help that. It would be a lot of fun to be a fly on the wall for that first conversation between new teammates Price and Ortiz, though.....
  14. Hey, he may be pitching for the Sox next year so..... Good game last night. Disappointed at the outcome but expect the Mets to bounce back with their best pitcher going tonight. But this bodes well for a good Series, with lots of lead changes and excitement, not counting TV outages.... Wasn't disappointed to lose Buck and Reynolds for a time.
  15. I'll watch all of the games, since I am in the NY metro area and Mets fever is pretty high - as is the load currently on the bandwagon. And I have to say I am rooting for the Mets, as I am not a Royals fan at all, so much so that my normal 'root for the AL rep in the WS' attitude is gone. I guess I am over the '86 WS loss....! Would like to see if the Big 4 Mets pitchers can continue their run, as well as Daniel 'Barry Bonds' Murphy....
  16. FWIW re: Harvey - here in the NY metro area, he is over the rocky stint he had in September with the fans. Mainly because he has shut up and pitched really well. So while all the rumors 2 months age were that Bogaerts-for-Harvey would have gotten it done, that ain't the case now and I don't think Harvey would be the one to be traded, if the Mets HAD to trade one of their big 4. But none of them will be eligible for big money for a couple of years. Harvey has 3 years of arbitration eligibility starting in 2016, and he's the first of the four. And the Mets would certainly try and lock him up for 5 or 6 years at a reasonable rate, which Harvey might be interested in due to his TJ surgery - security over the maximum buck (Scott Boras notwithstanding). But Harvey would look great in a RS uniform, so I would - almost - make that deal regardless of the cost....
  17. So what's the current feeling about Price, after the ALDS performance? Yeah, he pitched well in the last game, but still owns an 0-7 record in the postseason. Is he worth paying $100-plus million?
  18. Good for Ben. I suspect he will end up n a front office again somewhere, to rehab and rebuild his brand.
  19. Not sure where he fits in, unless you package a couple of the current guys in a trade (Miley, Hill, ?) - - FA/Trade (Price, Harvey, etc) - Buchholz - Porcello - Kelly - E-Rod - Owens There's a decent rotation there with some depth.
  20. The talk of trading Harvey has calmed quite a bit in the last week, as he told the manager to pitch him as he needs to get ready for the play-offs. Oh, and he pitched great the other night, too. That never hurts. I do think he burned some bridges with the team and fans when he left Boras speak for him earlier this month, but he was kind of caught in the middle (although he is the boss of Boras, ultimately). That's one down-side of trading for him. Most folks here thought that Bogaerts-for-Harvey straight up might get it done. I would endorse that trade. Having watched Harvey pitch for the past few years, I like his stuff and attitude. It is very Clemens-like in that he will battle you to the death, regardless of what he has that night. The anti-Clay, if you will. He's a leader on the team and is a bit flashy as well. I really like him, regardless of the TJ. And it's said that the second season back from the TJ is usually when they fully recover. Looking at FA pitchers, beyond Price and Zimmerman, and maybe Cueto, the list is pretty empty of #1/#2 types.
  21. I would have loved to have heard Don and Jerry talk about the guy who missed all the foul balls last night..... Might be up there with pizza-throwing and poncho guy....?
  22. Re: Miley's rant - I don't view that as competitiveness or fire, I view that as selfishness. And I'm a little disappointed in Farrell. Certainly you don't throw guys under the bus, a la Bobby V, but there;'s nothng wrong with saying 'Look, Wade didn't have it tonight. He felt like he could turn it around but I was concerned that we didn't want to get further behind'. Something like that gets the point across without really throwing him under the bus. Maybe he kicked his ass in the locker room, because I noticed Miley did come back. And Miley has actually pitched okay the last few starts before this stinker. And I do give the Sox credit for coming back. I sure like Holt batting behind Pedroia, when Pedey gets on Holt always seems to get a hit to move him along. And Hanley gutted out an aching knee. But there are too many holes in the line-up right now. When does E-Rod pitch again? ;-)
  23. Yeah! Great way to start a new month.....
  24. Splitter according to mlb.tv...
