  1. As a Redskins and a Red Sox fan I think it's idiotic to maintain that they have a racist legacy today for having racists owners a thousand years ago who were the last to integrate. I'd say that if it were the Yankees and Eagles.
  2. Unless I'm mistaken it appears as if his big contract expired in 2016, at that time he was still productive.
  3. Oh I agree. When I say the bottom of the order needs to pick up the slack from Moreland's inevitable regression to the norm I mean those guys have to hit as expected. And if he drops to .820 or so that' a big drop off from where he is now and that lost production needs to be found elsewhere. The obvious place for that is at the bottom of the order.
  4. At some point Moreland should be expected to return to who he is. His history shows that he is simply not a player who can be counted on to maintain a .955 OPS when his career has shown him to be more in the .750 territory. That has to be considered, they need the bottom to pick up that slack because I feel it's coming.
  5. I remember the Anderson for Bagwell trade, a prominent vet said he was one of the tougher relievers he had to face and recommended the move. I remember at the time thinking sure, why not? We see these trades all the time. Of course we had no idea Bagwell would turn into Bagwell and I remain bitter.
  6. Such a strange lineup they are putting out there. I don't think I've ever seen a lineup so reliant on the top with so much to overcome at the bottom. Maybe I was naive but I really expected Pedroia to come back to close to his normal self. If he was in the lineup and hitting .280 or so along with Betts' return that would be pretty sweet. Now we must endure. Winning yesterday with that lineup was remarkable but it won't happen often. Nunez followed by Travis, Devers, Vazquez, Swihart and Bradley is just brutal.
  7. What an incredibly enjoyable season this has been to witness. I mean this team is kicking ass nearly every night.
  8. So can anyone shed light on the injury? Report during the game last night sounded kind of positive, or was that relaying what the team hopes is the case?
  9. It was in the heat of the moment, his friend challenged him and he responded. If he had to do it again maybe you're right. But then again maybe he was pissed at his teammate for throwing at his friend's head too. Seems to me that was in play by the way he responded to Machado. But as I said this entire throwing at batters thing is so stupid, I've always felt that way. "That's the way it's always been" is not a good reason to keep doing stupid, dangerous stuff. And throwing at batters to get back at them, often for just hitting a home run or after a teammate unintentionally hit a batter, is juvenile and just leads to bigger problems. It doesn't "protect" teammates, it just puts them in the line of fire for the next retaliation.
  10. Totally disagree that it was the wrong thing to do, but this is coming from a guy who thinks throwing at anyone to get back after a play that had no malice is wrong. But as posted before throwing at the hip is one thing, the head is completely different and over the line. I get the teammates thing but if it were my friend who could have been seriously hurt or worse and he came to me with a WTF was that? I'd want the record set straight.
  11. Posters point out the Swihart talk took over the thread, then post a paragraph about Blake Swihart. I find that funny. As for Wright he definitely earned a spot in the rotation where he will be much more valuable than in long relief.
  12. The love Swihart continues to get here is baffling. At some point in time we need to realize that he was a top level prospect who just didn't pan out. His numbers have gone down every year and he has no defensive position. He finally was given extended playing time over the last few weeks and managed 4 hits in 22 at bats. But last night sure was an enjoyable win. I must have backed up that seed to the plate by Bogaerts 5 times. Wright has been amazing out of the pen, and was great before his injury. I expected a good performance last night but that was even better than I imagined. Wife stopped in right before JD's HR. I was calling it before it happened, best power guy in the game against some chump who belongs in the minors. Such fun when a HR happens and you expected it.
  13. I saw it this way. Pedroia and Machado are friends. Machado simply was trying to break up the double play and showed immediate concern for his friend after the play. When Machado was thrown at he looked at his buddy and said "WTF Man??? I wasn't trying to hurt you" . Peddy understood this and was simply explaining he had nothing to do with his teammate throwing at his good friend, which IMO has always been a stupid ass thing for a pitcher to do. I have zero problem with either player's behavior.
  14. Both excited and a bit nervous at Beeks' first start. A rare home grown pitching talent would be huge and I've been hoping for a while that he is the real thing. But Thursday does not work for me, I'm a Capitals fan.
  15. Your still a Yankee fan so defending you is difficult. Say something stupid so I can rip you a new one and return the world to its normal state.
  16. As a Sox fan and a new regular poster to the board I sure don't want to be too critical of the Sox fans here. But with that said it sure seems as if many here are easily triggered. I go to other team's boards all the time and never go this sort of response. It's just a message board after all and I for one enjoy other fans' perspectives. This guy uses phrases like "the kid was nails last year" and is being attacked. Man you should see some of the stuff I write on the Eagles or Boys boards as a Washington fan.
  17. Because he didn't have Devers behind him all season. Now he does and you saw what happened the other night. Man on 1st 2 out and first base open. Walk JD and get out of the inning by having Devers make the 3rd out. That does not mean I am giving up on an immense talent that is all of 21, just stating the obvious. His slow start combined with his terrible defense is a real problem right now. I agree that bat may wake up but the defense I have my doubts about.
  18. I don't have the history with the OP you guys do so I'll just say I'm a Sox fan who has no problem discussing just how disappointing his season has been and what it has meant. Having the best record in baseball in May does not mean you have no problems and 3rd base is a big problem right now. Teams will simply pitch around JD to get to Devers.
  19. OP speaks the truth. I really am shocked at Devers year so far, never expected it.
  20. Great timing on the Joe Kelly tribute thread huh, right before he gets rocked. LOL. As for Harper he is very very good, but the face of baseball? Not even. The headline in today's paper is "Is Harper's defense costing the Nats?" So there's that. If I'm putting up a huge offer, and those contracts seldom work out, I'm paying the guy up 95 30 miles and playing SS for the Birds.
  21. I think the prediction of Peddys demise are a bit premature.
  22. Surprised to read the love for Bryce Harper here though realizing some of it is tongue in cheek. I live near DC, the opinion on this guy here is so over the top. Guy on the radio called him "the face of baseball". LOL, guy has had only 2 great seasons and has hit 30+ HRs exactly once. As for Kelly it really is amazing the turnaround. I remember the comments after the opener, and I agreed with them. Since they he has been amazing and I'm no longer worried about our set up man.
  23. Another solid outing from Porcello last night, very close to getting out of it with only 1 run in 7. Sale has not been his dominant self but I'm hardly worried, E Rod has shown really good signs. Guy I can't get a handle on is David Price. Just not sure what he will give you but as mentioned for a #3 he's fine. Stephen Wright is the wild card. He has been tremendous in long relief and was an all star last year. Perhaps he takes Pom's spot? Not sure how many more chances he's going to get.
  24. He also hit one right on the screws that was right at the outfielder.
