  1. Just saw where the Sox opponents are hitting .228 on the season. That's really impressive.
  2. Yep the bottom is finally turning around, good to see JBJ's hard hit balls finally finding the grass. Vaz has really turned his season around and has been hitting well for a month. Hard to understand why he only has 3 HRs because when he hit's 'em they are no doubters.
  3. Yeah I get that. But Lordy I was seeing empty seats for day games that was astonishing, I mean it looked like a crowd of hundreds. At first I thought maybe it was the 17th inning but then I saw it again, and a field that looked like utter crap. So sad.
  4. Totally off topic but I watch that weekly MLB highlight show of the top 50 plays. Several times they showed Reds day games with nothing but empty seats. Last night they showed a field that makes my old high school field look like Augusta National. What happened to this once proud franchise? The Big Red Machine was the greatest team of my lifetime.
  5. Thanks for the comment on the back, fortunately it's not a chronic problem like so many have. Which is strange as I'm tall, a golfer, 59 and have crappy posture which all lead to back problems. As for this post you are correct they are similar but the edge goes to Devers. As I said he showed last year that he can hit at this level, Moncada has yet to do that. And he's older. No I like Devers right now.
  6. A bad back required muscle relaxers and that put me out early last night, at the time the Sox were down 10-6. I was shocked when I saw the final score, I'm now in the process of seeing how that happened. I'll be damned, Blake actually got a hit.
  7. It's early in both careers but to date at least Devers has shown the ability to be productive ML hitter, something Moncada has yet to prove. I can't say I'm unhappy about that, I sure don't want Moncada to turn into Jeff Bagwell
  8. I'll ask again, is there any update on Pedroia? Or is this a lost cause at this point?
  9. Boy it was very disappointing to lose that game last night given the pitching match ups.
  10. It's also called the Cy Young award based on his 511 wins. It should be called the Walter Johnson Award.
  11. Whenever I look at the opposing pitcher I look at ERA first, then WHIP, then move on to K/W. I don't pay much attention to wins/losses. But at the end of the year W/L record is a measuring stick for pictures, well starters anyway fair or not. A 20 win season is still a 20 win season and it's significant. So it sucks that Sale's numbers do not reflect his performance.
  12. While I can see the reasoning I too was asking at the time WTF was Scott doing in the game at that particular situation. First game since being called up? That's crazy. Managers are still sticking with the lefty vs lefty strategy but don't the advanced stats say go with the best picture regardless of which arm he uses?
  13. Very happy to come out of Seattle with a spit.
  14. He seemed to be having success going the other way but for some reason he seems to have gotten away from that.
  15. The farm system is depleted, not the time to deal for a rental.
  16. Not only did I question Kimbrel in Game 2 I almost lost my schitt when I saw him getting up in the bullpen the next game, after throwing 53 pitches the previous 2 nights. Cora was going to him again. Against the Baltimore Orioles. In June. That's just crazy.
  17. Did you notice how well he has pitched since someone came up with this name? Maybe we should start creating names for Devers and JBJ.
  18. Just as we were discussing a few days ago this was inevitable and the others at the bottom need to pick up the slack. I like the lineup last night, i think that's their best 8 right now.
  19. Wait I was not talking about the name, I was addressing the idea that the teams had racist histories because they were the last to integrate. That was so long ago it's not fair to label the teams today. As for the name Redskins I was in you camp forever, I thought it was offensive and could not understand how anyone could not. But the polls don't lie and the overwhelming response from Native Americans is many more like the name and want it retained then the other way. IMO we should listen to NAs, their opinion is the only one that matters.
  20. He showed signs of changing his approach a week or so ago when he started going the other way. Seemed to snap him out of it for a few games but I don't recall him doing it much lately.
  21. Meh, they don't do it in hockey. Most of the time it's pretty clear: safe or out, fair or foul etc. In football it's pretty much "after review the ruling on the field is confirmed" or whatever with little explanation.
  22. I would like Xander Bogaerts to be the Red Sox starting shortstop for the next 10 years. Just a rock solid all around player who can get even better.
  23. I'm a big fan of replay in every sport. They don't always get it right but they are pretty close. I'm willing to wait 2 minutes for that because getting it right is very important. Baseball replay is much faster than the NFL, who for some reason still can't seem to get a resolution in a timely manner. Is it me or does it seem like 80% of the plays that have been reviewed this year have gone against the Sox? I can't remember one that ended up wrong though.
  24. Man what a disaster Smith turned out to be. But given the performance of the bullpen I'm not sure he would have had much of a role anyway.
