  1. Are you calling Doubront fat?
  2. The Sox do not need Drew at what Drew will cost. He would be a nice luxury however.
  3. The Yankees are not masking their interest in this guy.
  4. Vasquez is on his way ... I will be following him closely next year ... may even make a couple of games.
  5. Exactly ... never hurts to explore opportunities to make your team better in the short and long term. Besides the fact that if we do not sign Drew we will have 4 top picks in the first 2 rounds.
  6. There is no doubt that new posting system is more fair to the player who has yet to put in his 9 years. I believe that all the teams from NPB endorsed this change and I also believe that their is a sense of pride when one of their players performs well in MLB. This being said it must be a difficult decision for ownership to let a superstar in his prime years leave before his contract is up.
  7. Do you favor signing Drew?
  8. Man's nature is to hoard and over-stock ... you should see my wife's closet. You make a good point but there is something called opportunity cost as well. A Kemp or Stanton can help the club long term if either one stays healthy. I doubt we would ever trade all of our pitching prospects but we can trade some of them. It is a crap shot which ones will succeed at the MLB level but our FO may have an idea of which ones they want to hold onto. We can also include a Cecchini, Swihart in any deal for Stanton. (I would give up more for Stanton than Kemp and would only go after Stanton if their was an agreement that he would extend long term ... much like AGon) IMO ... if we just sit pat on what we have today ... pick up a quality utility guy for the infield ... we will be fine. The more pitching prospects that we have the more likely 2 or 3 can work out long term.
  9. I am fascinated how people react when your team loses players after winning a championship. Ell's has left and so we want to find an Ell's like replacement, Drew might be leaving as well so now we want to find a Drew type replacement. IMO Bogaert's is going to have people saying Stephen Drew who by mid season. WMB is going to have a come back type of year. If I am wrong about one or the other we will still get by. Remember we played a good portion of the season last year with Holt and Snyder. As someone said on this site we cannot sign starters to be back up players just in case our starters do not work out.
  10. IMO ... It is not a stretch to play WMB in LF. Give this guy a couple of months of fly balls and he will adjust. That being said he is still our starting 3B heading into the 2014 season. Gomes & Nava are still on our Roster so LF is occupied for the time being. Things can change greatly however should the Sox go after a Kemp or Stanton. I was not a big Stanton guy but the time might be right to go after him and extend him at the same time.
  11. There are some positions were being a good athlete is not enough ... they take years of training and a certain type of agility. SS, C, CF, P are those types of positions ... I think you know this.
  12. Kemp, Stanton and Bautista are all middle of the line-up type bats. Anyone of them would have a possitive impact in our line-up. I said this before and I will say it again ... Bogaerts is the same type of player ... he can easily be hitting in the 2 or 3 hole by mid season. He is a special player but no one wants to project him as such as to not put undo pressure on him in his first full season in the bigs. The reason why Victorino will lead off is because Pedroia goes the other way much like Jeter and he can move Vic to 3B. We do not have Ell's next year so yeah it changes our dynamics but we can still score lots of runs with a different set of dynamics.
  13. A healthy Kemp is a game changer ... I like it. We still will have enough talent on the farm to replace him ... Brentz is someone we need to hold on to as well if we do a deal for Kemp.
  14. BTR ... you are very funny!
  15. You are absolutely correct. Everyone wants a replacement for JBJ who is a young perfectly healthy player.
  16. WMB has very good speed ... he can play 1B, 3B, 2B, LF and maybe even RF ... he is an exceptional athlete period. If he is requested by another team in a trade package there will be a reason for it.
  17. Are you kidding me? .... Middlebrooks over basically 1 full season hit 32 HR's. Not every player lights it up in the very beginning of their major league careers. WMB is a very good athlete ... a light might go off one day as it often does with professional athletes and suddenly he is working major league pitchers vs. them working him. Once he learns how to lay off the outside breaking balls he will become someone to contend with. I think he was over anxious last season and because of his poor start began pressing too much ... hopefully he will figure things out.
  18. Because of the question mark with Buchholz I have to agree with UN and insist that we hold onto Peavy unless we somehow sign a comparable replacement for him and there are not so many options out there. Dempster can be a salary dump alone because I would rather give the experience to Workman, Webster or any prospect that can be called up. Peavy has the heart of a Pedroia.
  19. There can be 15+ teams posting just to be part of it ... don't you think?
  20. 15.7m per for 7 years would be a good deal ... but then again ... you are saying this is the minimum and you could be right. The Yankees will pay 20M per ... they are that desperate.
  21. Bravo Dupree. My gut tells me that our FO is going to make some type of trade or go after Tanaka. Boston is in a nice position because other than dealing away Dempster there isn't much to be done heading into spring. Should Boston make a move to improve an already great team they will be doing so with a clear head and not out of desperation. Kemp for the right price and prospects would give us 4 players with 30 HR potential. Ortiz, Napoli, WMB & Kemp. Kemp, JBJ & Victorino can share the outfield with Nava coming off the bench .... Gomes can be dealt or salary dump. Of course finding the right deal for Kemp that is another story. There are certain prospects that I would not part with for Kemp.
  22. A.J. and Ross will do a solid job behind the plate next year. We will be fine.
  23. Now that the posting fee for Tanaka is capped at a reasonable 20M do you think that Boston is still interested? It is not inconceivable that the AVV for Tanaka will be around 15M per. This 15M is in the same neighborhood as Peavy (move for prospects) & Dempster (salary dump). If the Sox can sign Tanaka to a 6 year deal we will have him during his prime years. 1. Lester 2. Buchholz 3. Tanaka 4. Lackey 5. Doubront 6. Workman 7. Webster 8. Owens
  24. However, his present club is under no obligation to let him go.
