  1. Overpaying is one thing .... overpaying and given up a first or second round draft pick is another story.
  2. Ellsbury will not accept the QO but if the other 3 do that would be +16M to payroll. 9.5M for Salty alone. I have a feeling that they will not make the offer to Salty as he may very well accept it.
  3. You are probably right ... if Ellsbury's family loved being in Boston and were a big part of the community then things could be different but they are what they are.
  4. This was reported: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24166267/red-sox-plan-to-make-qualifying-offers-to-napoli-drew
  5. OK ... makes sense. Any deal they come to obviously voids the QO. Is the amount of all QO's the same. For example does player position determine the amount of the QO? offering 14M to Ellsbury is more viable than offering 14M to Salty.
  6. I do not believe that Stanton is a free agent ... paying him 7 /140 is a lot of money and dealing top prospects as well would not be in the Sox best interest.
  7. If another team gives Ellsbury 25M per for more than 3 years then you can count him gone. I do not see that happening but you cannot blame Boras for trying.
  8. Seems to me that since QO's need to be tendered by this coming Monday it handcuff's management ... do you think that Sox management is trying to sign any of the 4 free agents over the weekend?
  9. Let's say for the fun of it that the Sox offer Ellsbury 120 / 6 and Seattle offers him 140 / 7. You say he heads to Seattle? I'll get back to you on the bridge ... I have my heart set on the Golden Gate.
  10. Could you see the Sox signing Drew and beginning the year with either Bogarts or WMB in Pawtucket. If Bogaerts spends 30 days + in AAA I believe that the Sox will gain an extra year of control over him. If Middlebrooks begins in AAA and lights it up could the Sox not deal Drews contract. With 3 players in the mix we will have a good probability that 2 of 3 work out. If all 3 work out then all the better. What do you think?
  11. sorry ... no. I just have a lot of faith that Ellsbury will get back into 2011 form and something close to that. Again, who would not want the guy on their team ... it is all about the money with the fans but should the fans be so concerned about the money. The Yankees are going to spend, the Dodgers are spending. We are talking one player here who just turned 30 and has been a major part of our WS Titles in 2007 and 2013. Think of him as a good luck charm.
  12. Nap's ... yes if the Sox do not mind paying him 14M next season guaranteed. Ells ... of course. Salty ... some think that he has value ... I am not so sure. Do we really want to pay him 14M next season ... we pay him 4.5M now. so probably not Drew ... I think a team will take a flyer on him ... so yeah if the right team with one of the 10 worse records only has to give up and 2nd round pick I can see him going. If Drew Accepts the offer that would not be the worse thing. Gives Boston the following options. Start Bogaerts in Pawtucket for 30 days to extend a year of club control, try to extend Drew and deal Middlebrooks.
  13. I am placing a wager for anyone who wants it. Ellsbury will hit 20 HR's next season playing a minimum of 150 games. If he hits 20 playing less than 150 games all the better.
  14. Very funny MVP
  15. You mean discount not pay cut ... his pay is going up! I did not realize that he makes his home in Arizona. I guess we will find out ... right. What bridge are you selling?
  16. I don't know UN ... I have much respect for your baseball knowledge but Beltre's average numbers for past 4 years is an OBP of .357 and WAR of 6.3. Do you really think that WMB has Beltre type potential? Do not get me wrong I hope the lad can turn things around and reach this potential. Are you suggesting that WMB can grow to be a Beltre type player based on his similar skill-set. The problem with Boston now is that the expectations have risen and thus the win now attitude ... Drew / Bogaerts or Bogaerts / Middlebrooks ... which would you bet on for the next 3 years?
  17. What are your assumptions?
  18. Depends to who you listen to. Some say that all 4 will get QO's and some baseball exec's say 2 or 3 of 4.
  19. When a player learns how to hit for power and produces 30 HR's in 2011 I believe that he can hit 20 with a fully recovered shoulder and a healed hand 3 years later. I would imagine that Ellsbury is stronger now at age 30 then when he was age 25.
  20. I am willing to go with my friends opinion ... he is tops in his field. and I am willing to bet a steak dinner that Ellsbury will hit 20+ HR's next year. (Playing a minimum of 150 games) and he may do it playing less than 150 games.
  21. The order of who I would like to re-sign. 1. Ellsbury - if we do not re-sign him we save boat load of money and have JBJ to step in. Also a Comp. Pick 2. Drew - If we do not re-sign him we have Bogaerts at SS and Middlebrooks at 3rd and save money. Also a Comp. Pick 3. Napoli - If we do not re-sign him we have Justin Morneau or Billy Butler as options. And a Comp. Pick 4. Salty - If we do not re-sign him we have Lavarnway and save money. And a Comp. Pick
  22. Some players are consistent throughout a season while most players have hot and cold streaks. Drew had a cold streak at the wrong time but his glove was amazing. I would like to have his glove come the postseason when runs and errors are magnified. Drew looks much better at the plate in Games 5 & 6 of the WS.
  23. That is a horse of another color. Are you saying that they are not living together in Boston during the season?
  24. At the end of the day Boras is posturing on behalf of his client. I said 5-6. Let's use 6. Of course Boras would like 7-8 but that is not going to happen, not from any club. Boras brings up Crawford because he helps his case. Every GM in MLB knows that Crawford was over-paid. Jacoby had shoulder surgery 2 years ago ... A friend of mine is an Orthopedic Surgeon and he says that it takes at least 2 years to fully recover. He is going to hit 20 HR's
  25. Due by Monday? this coming Monday? how do the Sox makes any deals before Monday?
