  1. What I mean is, is the player in question good at his position or not. If you compare Duran to Yoshida alone (ie in a vacuum) for example, you could conclude Duran is a great outfielder. If the Yankee LFer sucks and you compare Duran to him alone, same conclusion. Does that mean that Duran is an outstanding LFer? Unknown-because you have to compare him to the other players who play that position at the same level. You certainly can compare two players at the same position and conclude that one is better than the other, but both may be excellent or both may suck. It’s much more useful to compare a player to all other players at that position. So when SS wrote that “you should check out the Yankee LFer” in reference to how good or bad Duran is there it’s not meaningful because both may be excellent or both may be horrible. If both suck you can look at the Yankee LFer but if Duran sucks (I don’t think he does) then he sucks.
  2. SS wasn’t comparing Duran to Little League players. He unsuccessfully tried to compare him to the Yankees LFer. If you compare Duran to all other LFers in ML ball that’s valid. It’s possible that both Duran AND the Yankee LF suck compared to all other LFers in the game-and I’m not saying his is bad. I’m saying that the comparison of two players in a vacuum is isn’t legitimate if you want to see how they are relative to the average in their position. They could both be great or they could both suck.
  3. The defensive competence of other players has nothing to do with how good or bad our players are defensively.

  5. You haven't heard? These two are the new announcers! Kidding
  6. I agree. Just saying the way it was in the old Talksox. The people who owned it sold it to its current owners and the policy may have changed. I don’t mind it because I have the option of ignoring that stuff.
  7. Probably not the right forum to talk politics. In the old talksox you get banned for it. Not sure how this one works.
  8. It was started after an apparently very turbulent flight to Minnesota. Some of the players couldn’t even play the next day
  9. I was an EXCELLENT baseball player! I learned the game at an early age, studied hard, and later in life I was labeled a genius at TalkSox.
  10. They WERE playing some good defense. Duran has to catch that.
  11. They can’t shut up. Unbelievable. I’m surprised they’re not talking during the break
  12. Where’s my buddy Rafaela tonight? How can we possibly win without him? 😉
  13. Fourth highest chase rate. Not the worst. But close: Rank Team Chase Rate (O-Swing%) 1 Colorado Rockies 26.1% 2 Los Angeles Angels 25.8% 3 Detroit Tigers 23.5% 4 Boston Red Sox 23.4%
