  1. I was exaggerating a bit. I think we should still finish ahead of the Jays but the Rays are always competitive. Unless we sign a bona fide RH power hitter like Hernandez and a very good SP we will not sniff the playoffs again, mostly because Henry is STILL penny pinching as he goes "full throttle up to and exceeding the spending limit". Its still early. Those moves could still be made. But until they are made I'll believe nothing has changed. BTW, has everyone seen that the team is "very interested" in Saski? Interpretation: if he can be had for a lowball price he's more than welcome to join the roster.
  2. We got worse. How many players did we lose this offseason so far?
  3. That sound fine but I’ll believe Henry doesn’t dumpster dive AGAIN for talent. Burnes>Pivetta (we aren’t getting Saski) Hernandez>Bregman Blow this and we’re a last place team again!
  4. The window for the Yankees to win a ring is closing. I wish them lots of luck, all of it bad.
  5. See Old Red's post. Henry and his team are all talk until his actions prove otherwise. He's been unwilling to spend for top FAs for years and we haven't smelled October baseball since....when? I can't even remember. But I remember all those LAST PLACE finishes. Its time for him to PAY for some quality FAs. They are still out there-Burnes and Hernandez, to mention two.
  6. I believe he already had one TJ didn’t he? That’s a risk with every pitcher nowadays. My concern is that he’s got a very small track record. Still, it’s a chance we had to take since Henry was too cheap to pay for Fried.
  7. He was paid what it took to sign him. No doubt at the end of his contract it will look bad but if he helps win a ring or two it’s worth it. Meanwhile the Flops have SUCKED for years-and it’s getting old.
  8. I suspect even the Yankees have a limit. Henry is a multimillionaire. He’s paid for talent in the past and it would be nice to see that again.
  9. What I PREFER is not giving away our future for the sake of penny pinching. Henry has claimed that we’ll be spending this year up to and maybe over the LT. Teel could flame out for us but now that’s not possible. We traded him to the WS so we didn’t have to pay Fried. If they open their purses and pay for a good RHB and a good SP without trading away more prospects I’ll admit I’m wrong about ownership. Until then I’ll believe it when I see it.
  10. And Crochet could be a flash in the pan, a one season wonder. Don't forget: Crochet has just one good season as a SP so far. I'd have rather paid Fried and saved Teel as our future catcher-unless they open their wallets for Hernandez and another quality SP. This relative penny pinching is getting old.
  11. Agreed. I believe one more quality SP plus a good RHB and we could compete for a playoff berth.
  12. It really hasn’t. The team hasn’t opened up their wallets for any significant FAs. They’re still trying to do it on the cheap.
  13. It wouldn’t have costed us any prospects if they had bit the bullet and paid Fried.
  14. I was hoping we could hang onto Teel. But to get a top flight proven pitcher it was never going to be cheap. Do we have anyone decent to replace Wong? Or are we stuck with him. if we had gone all in on Fried we could have kept Teel. They’re still trying to do it on the cheap. And we still need a good RH bat like Hernandez and another good SP.
  15. I have no doubt that they were “interested” in the top FAs-but only at the kind of rock bottom prices that would never get the job done. Last season they were at #12 in payroll in MLB. Given the fact that they have turned into a s*** franchise, if they are honest about wanting to turn it around the purse strings must be loosened and the decisions have to greatly improve. I see no evidence of that happening. So I expect at best mediocrity for the foreseeable future.
  16. Henry publicly said a few years ago that he wanted to cut payroll-then he hired Bloom a former Rays exec to do it.. And we all know how the Rays handle payroll. Now they claim they’ll be spending, even into the LT. They’re lying to us.
  17. I could live with a couple of years of rebuilding. A 6 year rebuild means that management has screwed up. It’s not even so much that the money hasn’t been spent (though that’s part of it)-it’s that the personnel decisions haven’t been wise. Unless we miraculously upgrade our pitching by a lot it’s going to be another crap year.
  18. No doubt. But this team should be competitive nearly every year. Not WS contenders necessarily, but playoff contenders, not last place teams. Now Eovaldi is even gone. He just signed with the Rangers. The fans need to show up on day one and turn their backs on the team from the stands and bend over in unison. Maybe then Henry will understand that we deserve better.
  19. It’s getting old
  20. Henry stated a couple of years ago that he wanted to get the payroll down. They’re now middle third. He hired management to get it done, and they did. And it persists today. The franchise has turned into a huge dung heap. When was the last time we were truly competitive? At the very least Henry and his lackeys need to be honest with the fans. They don’t care about winning, only making money.
  21. We should begin to compile a list of who the the Flops were “interested in”…so far it’s Fried, Soto, Adames…and I hear they’re “interested in” Bregman and Crochet too. Where’s the nearest dumpster again? SELL THE TEAM HENRY!!
  22. Fried signed with the Yankees. While Henry played the fiddle. Same story. ”Full throttle”
  23. Well then.....its settled.
