  1. I dont think they will either in Boston, but to get any value out of him he needs to work on his catching skills...he absolutely needs work. He only became a ft catcher AFTER the Sox drafted him so its no surprise, to me anyway, that his D is lacking. Bottom line. Theres no OF position open and his D as a MLB catcher is a liability right now. I believe he can be at least a decent backstop with a good stick. That still has value. Just needs to reps, and he can do that in Pawtucket.
  2. No way hes our everyday catcher next year, and maybe ever...i seriously think he recovers, goes back to AAA and works on his D behind the dish because its terrible. Then I think he may be in a trade. They have to build his value back up as a catcher first though. I would bet that we have Leon and Vaz next year as our catchers.
  3. Buch was fine in the pen and looked a lot better when he got beack in the rotation. I think the pen did him good. Now personally, I would have left him in the rotation...had a feeling we were gonna see some more good pitching from him...
  4. You know im not big on defensive metrics. Ive watched every game and Hanley doesnt hurt us at all defensively...Hes made a couple blunders, sure, but for his first year hes done well. No denying that. like I said, he doesnt hurt us and isnt a liability. Shaws offense so far doesnt warrant a ft position there. Although Hanley is having a bit of a down year with the bat and was out with a shoulder issue last year, Id still choose him over Shaw just based on history offensively and how well hes done his fist year at 1b with the glove...right now, to me, Shaw is a bench guy for 1b/3b. Although i believe they should just have kept him in at 3b and let him work through his struggles and the adjustment he needed to make...the Sox can sometimes be a bit impatient with young players like they were with Xander at SS in 2014... Do you think if they left Shaw alone at 3b he would have worked through things? I do. At least if they let him work through it he couldve upped his value in a trade. Now he looks like a bench player when im no so sure he is.
  5. Agree with Shaw and Moncada. I still like Hanley at 1b and maybe DH some of the time, but def not a FT DH. Not sure that we NEED to get another corner guy. We dont have to put Hanley there, and really shouldn't..Im curious to why you think we should when hes been pretty damn good there?
  6. Leading off the bag and then a jump the wrong way when the ball was hit. Rookie mistake. It happens. Your right though...its not Pedeys faullt. No structural damage so thats good news for the kid...hopefully back before the seasons out. Just Please dont frigging rush him back too early...
  7. Benni will be back at least by 2017..Moncada has looked really good at 3b, almost looks natural. Made a couple nice diving stops already. A little winter ball then ST and we'll see where hes at...
  8. Swihart isnt too good to be a backup seeing hes not good enough defensively to be a starter yet...maybe one day he will, but his time behind the plate cost this team runs. He wasnt that good yet. Maybe after a year in AAA taking every rep, but I wouldnt throw him behind the plate in Boston as a starter right now. No way.
  9. Right on the 15day DL and im guessing it will be the 60 real soon. Didnt look good. Hopefully im wrong and the second MRI shows nothing major...this completely sucks.
  10. Yee, that was him... he was also beaned in the melon his first eyar with the organization so hes time in the org. Has been pretty eventful...i liked him better than Owens too, so im hoping he can help the team down the stretch because Owens is a friggin mess and looks like a deer in the headlights...
  11. I imagine he has a couple years before the decision is made on him. Id like to see him carry it through next year first. Get some consistency, although hes been pretty consistent so far this year. Now, if the same hapoens with Vaz regarding his bat, then you will have the two best all around catchers in MLB on your team....not bad.
  12. I still think Shaw should get more regular time. His first real struggle and he gets benched? I would have let him work through it a bit more...but thats just me. Shaw is a talented and smart ballplayer whom I believe would have worked through it if given the chance. They are young men in this game and will go through a learning curve. You cant really find out what and who they are until they go through it. Hill has been a waste overall. We have enough offense to carry a guy or two who are struggling...
  13. Hopefully the LT is up past 200m by that time. Unfortunately two of the Bs are represented by Boras. Not that we cant deal with that, but the fact he really likes his guys to get to FA. My hope is that at least one of them signes early for that security. I really think Betts and Bogey are ahead of JBJ on the priority list for the team, although Im sure theyd love to lock them all up for the next 10 years...first thing is to clear some wasted payroll. Some tough decisions to be made in the next couple years.
  14. I have my opinion and im sticking with it...being a pitching coach and a manager are totally different. I think hes been put in some tough situations this year, but I also think hes put his team in some tough situations. More than Id like to see my manager do. No, I dont think hes has done a good job managing his pitching staff, especially the bullpen. ive never complained about a manager as much as i have with farrell, and I usually don't really complain much at all when it comes to managers. It is what it is...i dont blame him for everything, but when he makes some obvious bonehead moves ill say what I think. We will have to agree to disagree on this matter. I dont want him here next year no matter what.
  15. Oh ok...i must have misunderstood...I still disagree about your suggestion sitting vs the LHP for 3-5 games in a row. I think is a mistake. I dont mind him hitting LHP since hes done a good job at it. Even if Benni goes through the learning curve and some adjustments they should just keep rolling him out there and let him work through things and not panic like they did with Bogey when they picked Drew up for the second time.
  16. I tend to not believe much of what Farrell says...sounds like front office speak everytime a mic is put in front of him. IMHO, he doesnt have very good instincs for whats going on during a game. Most managers will make a couple head-scratching moves during a year, but Farrell has turned it into an artform in Boston. Some moves are completely undefendable. He has been able to be a great director of scouting in the past and has proved to be a solid pitching coach. as far as a Manager? I just dont care for his "style" of Managing here in Boston anymore.
  17. Your love for platoons is out of hand:p:cool: Benni should be the FT Lfer...maybe Young can spell them ONCE IN A WHILE, but there should be no platoons in the OF moving forward now that we have the killer B's out there. Young is signed for one more year. He can help PH and PR or maybe give someone a rest. Thats it.
  18. Hey Slash! I didnt hear anything about it...he would have just gave some FO double talk like he does. No excuse when you had at least three other arms and even let Ross start the 8th, but no way on Gods green earth do you hand the ball to Taz in that situation...
  19. I remember mentioning that maybe a move to the pen will help Buch...not over thinking things mostly, which is what I think gets him in trouble...hes pitching from the stretch now and looks like hes in a good mental state from how hes been talking. Even mentioned how the pen has made him prepare, think, and work differently... Hey, hes looked good since being inserted back into the rotation...SSs of course, but still...he looks better.
  20. Using Taz in that situation after how awful he has been is just unforgivable...THEN you put in a pitch-to-contact guy with bases full of runners? Seriously, it doesnt take much to know that either Zig starts the inning or maybe Barnes..or maybe Hambree who just came up and throws 98 too.... I swear I have no friggin idea what this ass clown is thinking when he makes the boatload of head-scratching moves hes made the last few years....
  21. Yeah, Id lighten up on benni's D ...it take a few times in front of the monster to get used to it. Also the trajectory of the ball is different in the corners...to say hes worse than holt or brentz is a bit premature
  22. Hanley is fine at 1b. Your idea to platoon him isnt warranted IMHO. his numbers have gone down starting in 2015 due to his shoulder injury. Hes a career 839OPS vs rHP. If you go look at his splits you will see he was just fine up until the shoulder injury last year. I think you are looking to deep into those numbers.
  23. Seriously? Hanley is a middle of the order bat. I dont care if hes in the low 700OPS vs RHP. Your not going to flip flop the lineup like that constantly... nowhere below 5 and probably not below 4 next year. Hes a potential 30HR bat that has had solid all around numbers his whole career, minus his injured year last year. Hes not a bottom of the order bat.
