  1. Dont do anything that will compromise our future. I ask you, who is in the WS? Is it Price, Greinki, Kershaw? Cueto is there but he had one good game the whole playoffs. The only thing that is good on our team right now came cheaply. It works. The proof is becoming more and more apparent.
  2. Yes Cespedes is doing well but Lester is still good too, won multiple rings WITH US, doesn't get hurt, is still young enough and is a pitcher. Lester is harder to find than a Cespedes IMO. Is he a Price or Greinki? No but unlike them he knows how to win in the postseason. Also the Lackey move was made because how poorly handled the Lester situation was. Stats and dollars are all good but chemistry and what already worked is important too. So in retrospect its really Porcello vs Lester because eventually we had to replace Lester. We paid heavily for an unknown vs paying heavily for a known. That's mind boggling. I also didn't like the Panda, Hanley moves from day one.
  3. After 2014 the only thing I think they messed up with is not resigning Lester, everything else I don't blame them for not doing much. When you win a WS you have to try and see if you can do it again. If not then you're back where you started rebuilding through the farm and plugging holes with vets. You face the facts that winning might not happen right away. If we would have done that last off season wed still be in last place but our prospects would still look promising and we would have lot of flexibility and leverage going forward.
  4. That's the trap of being a team with lots of money. Look at the teams that are actually in the playoffs, who are the big spenders? None of them. They get a pitcher to finish out the season but that's it. We were on that path prior to the previous offseason.
  5. Maybe, assuming the play at the end of the season is who they really are and not the team in the middle and beginning. I think they played inspired once Farrell got sick. Will they sustain what they had going? I think BCs moves are finally paying off too except the ones made before this last season. Porcello may turn out well but we lost our flexibility with the other high priced acquisitions. Now we need an ace.
  6. Basically. All we have to trade now is our future prospects. Although in the article 700 posted about Dombrowskis plan, a name mentioned as being trade bait is Allen Craig. Were saved!!!
  7. I think Castillo is expendable in that his LF talent is wasted at home.
  8. True. I think we have to see a decent sample size of Vasquez post operation before we trade one of the catchers.
  9. You unpatient people. You have to get worse before you get better when rebuilding. Next year will be the real measuring stick now that the different moves and prospects have finally started to show their potential, not counting Sandoval and Hanley who were chosen precisely because of the lack of patience.
  10. I think the WS slowed the process down ironically. I'd never trade that win but may be the truth nevertheless. What I get yanked about is not taking that into consideration. It was supposed to be a rebuild that we won the whole thing year one. Was JBJ, XB and all the pitching prospects supposed to just keep that going? Too much pressure. If I have one complaint about BC is that...ok...two, is that it seems he gave up on his plan too by signing big contracts. The other complaint is the total lack of attention on pitching, bullpen especially.
  11. We definitely should have a backup plan but so many factors are pointing to Hanley (or Panda), other than their contracts, being the odd man out that we should make that move. We also have Sam Travis in waiting. As for comparing Shaw to WMB, I think Shaw is a more complete batter. WMB was all pull for home runs or nothing.
  12. It'd be a shame to put Shaw back down in AAA, he has done all we could have asked for and Hanley hasn't. Are we keeping Sandoval too? Should be an interesting off season.
  13. But aren't two good catchers too many when we need pitching so much? I'm a big proponent of making sure we have a solid, defensive minded, with good pitch calling skills, catcher at all times but then again one of our young catchers could get us alot in a trade. We need to give up something to get something (captain obvious to the rescue!!!) and the catching situation is the only position that we have two potentially good players where we can afford to give up one. Plus I like Hanigan as a safety net. We should be developing another young one in the minors too.
  14. Travis Shaw is a part of the reason I suspect. Whether its to be our future 1st baseman or trade bait, every good game he plays is good for us.
  15. Even if he was up to par, the outfield was too crowded and we could have used that for pitching. What good is hitting if we give any lead we may have had up because we have no bullpen. Also why should he have been a good outfielder, nothing in his past suggests that.
  16. I think they have settled the issue of where XB should play once and for all. In 2014 I was for keeping Drew and keeping XB at third to see if we could replicate 2013 success but once that showed itself to be far from the truth, they put XB back at SS and he has blossomed since then. Trust me, I'm with you, I want the best defense behind the pitching but am satisfied with pretty darn good. Dont mess with pretty darn good. Just get a gold glove caliber third baseman
  17. Count me in, though Panda may be getting his stuff together
  18. What's so great about O'Brien? Not that impressive to be honest. Just pisses me off that they're spending their energy in such useless ways when we're in last place. Fix what's broken, not what isn't.
  19. I think Buchholz should be odd man out, too many injuries and I like what our new pitchers are doing. Why trade if they are working. Also, if people think the top notch free agents are too expensive, then what?
  20. True but unfortunate. Having money is supposed to be a luxury and allow a team to have an advantage not a burden of having to be competitive and rebuild at the same time. Having that money would be good for that one guy to put us over the top.
  21. Maybe with the new play by play we'll become a better team. Who knew it was Don Orsillo all this time and not the pitching. Good to see they're focused on winning.
  22. I'd like to see one ace-like pitcher added and then get a killer bullpen. I want to see if there's any carryover from what's good now to next year with the starters.
  23. I get a little confused about the thinking that went on post WS. When Cherington traded Beckett, Gonzales and Crawford it was supposed to be a rebuild with prospects. Sure we won a WS but that doesn't change the fact that building a team with.prospects might not bring instant perfection, same with any player brought in new. Any GM deserves two years, at least to see if his plan would come to something. Thing is though is that some of his moves suggest to me that he was losing faith in his plan too. Getting Hanley Ramirez seems to be a show of disbelief that JBJ would come around. Or at least strong insurance in case.
  24. I agree with this and I also wasn't a fan, at least in acquiring him, but it was Cherington, or ownership that caused this outfield overload, not him. But also, he is talented, we do already have him and keeping him may be the smarter move all things considered. Playing first base being chief among those.
