  1. Are you referring to how WAR doesn't consider context of each event on the field?
  2. He was fine in 2013 and 2012.
  3. Ellsbury's been great offensively, but you don't go from 21-12 to 16-17 because of just one player. No player in the world is a five win difference in 33 games, especially not Ellsbury.
  4. Let's not get focused on finding a single scapegoat for the team's poor performance. Losing 2013 Ellsbury and ineptitude with runners on base are just two factors. Some are larger than others. If we really need a scapegoat, my candidate is Daniel Nava. Long may he rot in Pawtucket.
  5. WAR divides adjusted UZR and wRAA by 10, so it's almost the same thing.
  6. That's true. I can't find the exact number, but I assume the UZR adjustment for LF's in Fenway Park is pretty steep. Crawford's UZR decline from 2010 to 2011 is a good example.
  7. Depends. Great defensive CF's tend to be elite defensive COF's.
  8. SSS alert, but Ellsbury has been worth three more runs (0.6 WAR to 0.3 WAR) over Bradley Jr. thus far. Not even enough to push us to .500.
  9. I saw it on bodybuilding.com EDIT* So, yes. Considering they recycle most everything from other websites.
  10. My bad. I thought more people would understand the reference. I didn't even see him respond to it.
  11. Is this the wild trade speculation thread? I'll throw a few names out there to see what people think: Josh Willingham (LF) Emilio Bonifacio (UTL) Chris Young (OF) James Shields (SP) Justin Masterson (SP) Cliff Lee (SP) The batters would not command a great prospect, and because LF is such a huge hole right now, Willingham and Young could be an extra 1-2 wins over a three month period. Of course, we would be crowned AL East champs if we landed Stanton, but I just put down the more realistic targets. Bonifacio could be a good speed guy off the bench, although I don't know if I could handle the wheelz fetishists demanding he start and lead off in CF. The Royals probably are going to buyers, but how much would you surrender for a rental like Shields or Masterson? They will probably be cheaper in terms of prospects, because the cash flow rich Phillies can eat some money from Lee's contract and ask for the moon. I focused on these three pitchers, because Brandon Workman and say someone like AJ Burnett are not likely to be anything more than marginal improvements over Doubront/Buchholz. Any other ideas?
  12. No Billy Hamilton tonight. Skip Schumaker is in CF. Red Sox should hit every ball toward him.
  13. Nah, Pierzynski is doing OK, and I expect Saltalamacchia's Mike Piazza impression will end pretty soon.
  14. Could be a late bloomer. Although, I doubt he's going to hit 30 HR's with a 16% BB rate over a full season.
  15. Saltalamacchia is tearing it up so far. .301/.405/.570. 1.6 WAR
  16. Wasn't he the reason the Heat signed Greg Oden? I was listening to the Jalen Rose podcast, and he compared him to Robin Lopez. Looks pretty accurate after these last eight games. He was getting owned by the scrub Hawks big man. Nene and Gortat are going to tear him to pieces. Oh, and Drew Gooden. lol Maybe he's hurt?
  17. Hearing a lot of Ben Zobrist comparisons.
  18. Hopefully this leads to a firesale of all their players and the Red Sox payroll ballooning to $300 million.
  19. Wasn't Hibbert an early favorite for DPOY? What happened to him?
  20. Epic collapse by Liverpool today.
  21. Kendrick Perkins sucks.
