  1. It sounds pretty much what it is like when somebody tries to call my house.
  2. ty - It would be worth a try.
  3. That is pretty much what I thought.
  4. Makes sense to me. In a case like this, I guess the owner or owners get to choose. This has really very little to do with anyone outside of the organization. It really does look like a massive PR move and if it works, good for them. It is their boat. We don't get to fill out a ballot. Like I said earlier, looking at the numbers that have been retired, Dwight Evans would go up long before Wade Boggs. We don't have to follow anybody elses concept of protocol on this one.
  5. Nobody at any level and I mean any would be untouchable if the offer was good enough. It should take a minor King's ransom to pry any of those top 3 out of Boston though.
  6. Just as an aside - i really don't care what numbers the Sox decide to retire but if it was going to be a day for Dwight Evans, I might actually want to be there.
  7. Meant to say - I don't think the 2 go hand in hand.
  8. There is absolutely no questioning the greatness of the player. Upon what criteria do you think current ownership relies on to determine the numbers that get retired? HOF/retired # - I did think the 2 always go hand in hand.
  9. I'm hoping to be down there as well. The question being how easy is it to get in to see a game.
  10. Knowing that everything we do must now be judged by the political correctness police, to say that we should honor Boggs in this way and not Clemens is ridiculous. I will pass on attending that game. Now if we are going to choose who we honor based on how respectful they have been to the organization and how loyal they have been to their supposed New England roots that is another thing.
  11. Espinosa - Moncada - possibly Benintendi. Any combination of the boys they have left that would bring in a solid young arm - as in better than Porcello - would be a huge help going forward.
  12. I thought that I was the only one on here that felt that the Sox tend to show a "who gives a crap" attitude when it comes to actually budgeting. We do Ok but I would like to have the difference in these two contracts mailed in one lump sum to me. It might not seem like much but I could make do.
  13. Will Margot Adams be attending? Wade Boggs was a great hitter and good third baseman for the Sox for quite a while. i'm ambivalent with respect to him being honored in Boston. But hey - I think that Rose should be in the HOF right along with him. Just goes to show what I know. not much
  14. I wonder if any of the players in the NFL play fantasy football for $? I don't really wonder.
  15. It's all Dombrowski's fault.
  16. goddam Dombrowski - We had a pant load more to talk about last year at this time.
  17. the man could pitch
  18. I just had a thought - I always thought John Farrell was a pretty good pitching coach as in an Assistant Coach - See where I am going with this?
  19. You an 700 are just a couple of heartless guys! You think Palmer can still throw a ball?
  20. This is kind of like tough love for me. I wish that I didn't agree with this summation in a way but I do. I say that primarily because of Farrell. I like the guy but ...
  21. Pete Rose is a classic example of a guy who you hated because he was on the other team. Growing up, we all wanted to play as hard as Pete Rose.
  22. Hey Rose was a switch hitter as well. Had to do that(sorry) - very tough questions to answer for sure. No wants to see gambling, drug use, domestic abuse etc. etc.etc. tolerated in our athletics. I can't remember and I am too lazy to check - was Rose gambling on baseball during his playing and or coaching years? Think he was during the coaching years. I just have a tough time dealing with the process in general. Each of our major sports programs Hall of Fames are inhabited by many villains I am sure. I bet that a few of them were even law breakers. I guess I kind of agree with the idea that if you broke a rule that was in fact an established rule then you have to pay the price. I am just not sure that the punnishment fits the crime in many cases. I am going to touch base with BC to get his opinion on this.
  23. !. Couldn't help it - obsessed with topic - devil made me do it - (multiple choice?) wtf 2. Shoeless Joe should be in there 3. Seriously (now and then) - Until only the saints can vote, I say let them in.
