    Not a bad idea to have pitching depth, but I agree with what a700 said in an earlier post, that a hitter might be the way to go at the deadline.

    I think Nieves has some contributions to their success. The tandem of Farrell and Nieves has saw almost the entire starting staff make changes to their mechanics, the most notable improvements in performance coming from Buchholz and Lackey. All of the starting 5 have fooled around with different release points, moving closer to first base on the rubber, etc. This at first made a very obvious impact.

    Does anyone else think maybe they could try Carp out at third? I think he needs to get more playing time any way he can. I guess slotting him at third would leave a hole at first though, especially if Napoli needs a break

    I don't think his point was that Doubront is a bad pitcher. I agree with the fact that you can never have enough pitching. You always need depth, even if you have to take out fliers on guys that may or may not stick, it can't hurt.

    Interesting thing about Koji... Every appearance that he has a save in, he struck out two batters. In the two blown saves he has only struck out one. In each of those blown save appearances, he allowed 2 hits, and both times one of those hits was a solo shot.

    A gradual decline is understandable.. I realize he is getting older, everyone gets older.. And of course with age, your stuff is just not going to be as good.. Having said that, I don't think his recent performance suggests a sharp decline, that's really what I meant to say. I think it's just a rough spot.

    Strange thing i read about mortensen recently, he apparently is lights out on the road, and he is terrible at fenway park.. He has something like a 1.87 ERA at home and a 5-6 ERA at fenway.. it's odd
