  1. I would agree that Betts and JDM are close enough that you could have an argument over who is the better hitter.
  2. 5 merit points for you. 5 demerits for notin.
  3. I'll never understand why fans get so worked up about the lineup. The manager can handle it.
  4. Pretty cool that the guy got a ring.
  5. Swihart and Johnson would be mere throw-ins in a deal for Wheeler.
  6. 2018 Betts 346/438/640 JDM 330/402/629
  7. If we didn't have the offseason drama, how would we get through these 5 months?
  8. The mute button is your friend.
  9. But Kimmi also says a) it doesn't make that much difference and putting the hitters where they are most comfortable may be even more important. And I'm sure she would agree Cora is the best judge of that. Checkmate, fellas.
  10. He is a one year rental, and an expensive one at that.
  11. What you're saying makes perfect sense, but there seems to be some sort of unwritten code of honor in play here (with most players anyway). It was often asked why the Yankees didn't bunt on Schilling in the bloody sock game.
  12. When it comes to the lineup, I'm in favor of whatever Cora's in favor of.
  13. There really isn't much to say about Gorkys.
  14. Cool with me then. At one time I thought there were some guidelines here about not having a proliferation of threads.
  15. I would say the common-sense rule is, if you know it can't possibly generate more than a couple of posts, it's not a thread.
  16. You also want your best hitter up as many times as possible, don't you? I sure do. That's the argument for having Betts up first. He's also a pretty damn good leadoff hitter who gets on base and has great speed and baserunning smarts. Also leadoff home runs are not such a bad thing, since teams that take a lead win a high percentage of the time. All that said, the studies that show that the #2 slot gives the optimum combination of coming up with men on base and coming up as many times as possible.
  17. Can we really make a thread out of this? LOL
  18. It is a pile of money. We're really seeing some inflated prices this offseason-Corbin, Eovaldi and now McCutchen. I guess that's a good thing as far as the baseball economy goes.
  19. This would be like the Panda situation with us. Whoever signs Tulo only pays minimum and Toronto pays the rest of the $38 mil.
  20. Sox payroll is already at about 240 million for tax purposes. And 2 high-quality free agent relievers will probably set you back around 20 million in total AAV. So the rumor is not implausible.
  21. Clearing money for the bullpen is not implausible.
  22. If I'm getting this right, Cashman has said the Yanks won't go to 300 million on Machado and are basically out on Harper. Can't trust the guy, of course, but he does like to talk, doesn't he?
