  1. From LL: And Schilling having something to do with his hiring is pure conjecture. From Cherington: Dude's been on the job for a couple weeks, and the complaining about him is already reaching critical mass. Patience people.
  2. Rosenthal a pundit? One of the best in the business? What?
  3. I'm honestly astounded by some of the conclusions you guys are coming up with here hahaha.
  4. Please put all of your eggs on the Darvish basket, so that if he's not posted, you're left scrambling.
  5. I still don't understand the fascination with Cuddyer. He's good, but there are other options. He's also a 33-year-old looking for a three year deal. Don't want any part of that.
  6. You guys are reading too much into this. It's all due process by a team with a new GM and an usually hands-off owner who has just become a hands-on owner because of last year's circumstances. They will take their time and find a guy who all three think is the best for the job. And what's with the Valentine conspiracy theory? He wasn't even a finalist.
  7. This offseason is different. The managerial search officially started when Cherington became GM.
  8. But you already did that (it's in your sig). I made the 24-26 age comparison because of Yazman's post.
  9. When i posted the stats, i wasn't saying that they shouldn't give Bard the chance to close. I meant that Papelbon was superior statistically to Bard during their 24-26 ages, but not to the point where it warranted giving all that money to Papelbon.
  10. It was a stress fracture though, which is usually not a recurrent problem as far as i'm concerned.
  11. Yet a thousand other sportswriters disagree with that idea. Matter of opinion.
  12. Terry Francona hiring process: 2004: Terry Francona meets with the Red Sox: November 3. Terry Francona goes for follow-up session: November 18. Terry Francona gets second interview: November 19. Terry Francona takes physical: November 26. Terry Francona is officially announced as manager: December 04. They have a process that they have laid out, and will probably not alter it because fans are losing sleep over it. By the way, not having a manager in place didn't stop Curt Schilling from expressing his interest to go to the Sox, and Foulke's negotiations were very advanced by the time the Sox announced Francona.
  13. That's not what i mean. What i mean is that we don't know the process by which the Red Sox handle this types of situations. They are a private organization, much like any other. Some organizations will do "some" research on employees, some will build a case on a prospective employee. We don't know what the organization actually values or is looking for in a manager, but saying that they're sitting on their thumbs, or that choosing a manager is a simple thing don't actually know how the process works. I'm not saying i do, but for God's sakes, that doesn't mean they're not working on it. Remember 2003-04? That was also a process that dragged out a significant amount of time, but wasn't as publicized. They are probably following the same protocol, and had 2011 not ended as it did, we probably wouldn't even be talking about it. It'll happen when it happens. They will do it at their pace, and there's nothing we can do about it.
  14. From MLBTRaderumors:
  15. I love it when fans talk like they actually know how things work inside a baseball organization.
  16. Papelbon ages 24-26: 1.62 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 10.8 K/9, 2.5 BB/9, 291 ERA+, 0.7 HR/9. Bard ages 24-26: 2.88 ERA, 1.056 WHIP, 9.7 K/9, 3.5 BB/9, 154 ERA+, 0.7 HR/9. Not even close. However, the difference in performance doesn't justify the 30 million difference between Papelbon's salary and Bard's (and a couple of relievers') salary during the length of his contract.
  17. I simply didn't understand what you meant by "elite" leader. I'm assuming from this post it's because you think he's not good at dealing with adversity. I honestly don't have an opinion on the subject, but wanted you to clear yours up because i didn't understand.
  18. What do you mean by this?
  19. You can go and manage the Red Sox yourself.....oh wait......
  20. Not baseball forums. I read a piece on him written by a baseball writer if that's what you're referring to. Hard to pick up humor over the interwebs.
  21. Word around the internet says he's highly respected wherever he goes because of his baseball IQ, which is said to be "extremely high".
